I agree with Jack that if disney is going to place it in Muppets courtyard, they have to move MuppetVision elsewhere. I'd prefer it stay in Hollywood Studios and it moves to one of the underutilized stage show areas. Maybe even the theater right next to Mickey and Minnie's runaway railway they used for showing mickey mouse cartoons

I agree that they don’t do enough with that area. Everyone loves the muppet 3D show but the rest of the land (shop and pizza Rizzo) could use some revamping for sure. There is so much you could do with the muppets IP and I feel it is largely unexplored.

As a puppet enthusiast dating a Muppet fanatic and besties with 2 other puppet enthusiasts, I now NEED this! I think people would love it! They could also do it as an end of day pickup thing where a puppet maker takes your picture and works on your look alike puppet during the day. But DIY would be so cool!

I know a cast member friend who works in those offices right behind animation courtyard. Apparently, a few weeks before D23, him and his team were told they’d be getting relocated sometime in the new year. Don’t know how true this is, but it definitely makes me believe Animation Courtyard is the spot.

We need to remember that Muppet Vision 3D is one of Jim Henson’s last projects before he died in 1990 so replacing it with the Monsters, Inc land would be very heartbreaking.
Plus Star Wars Launch Bay is housed in the former Magic of Disney Animation which opened in 1989 until it closed in 2004 and parts of the building is now mostly empty animation rooms so it would make absolutely sense to replace it with Monsters, Inc land.

I doubt he'd say that if he thought for a second his best friend's final project was gonna get bulldozed away. PLUS, lest we forget, the theater seats were JUST upgraded. When I worked at DHS I would hear 3 main complaints from guests, and this was constant: 1. “Why is Rock’n Rollercoaster down?” 2. “Why did they replace the Great Movie Ride?” and “Why is the Muppet store closed/where is muppet merchandise?”. The last being a very popular question from younger folks and especially from folks from the UK. I got it almost every other day. People want more Muppets, I think they would be making a huge mistake by axing the only Muppets related thing in the park, and a horrible act of disrespect to the Jim Henson company and Legacy. I know many people have mentioned it here, but it was Jim Henson’s last project before he passed, but I also want to mention that Muppets Courtyard was already a rolled back version of the promised Muppet land that was in the works when Henson was alive. After his death, the WD company did a lot of disrespectful things in regard to that agreement with Henson and permanently marred the two companies relationships over greed. So, this would seem like the most disrespectful act after all the WD company has put them through. Also, who on earth would want to get rid of both Muppet Vision and Mama Melroses? Seems like a poor choice to me.
Also, I’m not sure how bad it’s gotten recently but many of the buildings in animation courtyard have mold in them. Primarily the building used for The Little Mermaid and the previous Studio Store/Playhouse Disney Shop. Ive heard its so bad that it has to be gutted, so the smart idea would be to squish alot of those buildings, even though it would be sad for us Disney’s MGM Studios fans, but it would be way easier. Also the positioning of Harry Hausen’s in the concept art would fit nicely in the spot that the Playhouse Disney Dance party is in now, which used to be the Soundstage restaurant. Much of that infrastructure for the SSR is actually still there, it’s used primarily for food prep at the moment, but it would easy to push that kitchen staff elsewhere.
In conclusion, let’s hope that they make the more fan oriented/economical decision and leave Muppets be. Keeping my fingers crossed that my favorite attraction stays standing. 🤞

For Monsters Inc: Use the entire swath of land from Star Wars Launch Bay (remove it), the entire Animation building (white roof on Google Earth image- remove it), and the parking lot (remove it) behind Sunset Ranch Market. And as an aside, get rid of ALL the OLD ANIMATION STUDIOS office buildings inside the park. The animation studios are long gone. Is this a theme park or an office complex? KEEP Muppets and ADD a better Muppet experience where the giant boarded up gift shop sits. Put a dark ride in it for the littles and ADD a splash pad around the fountain. But do NOT remove MUPPETS for MONSTERS. Remove defunct animation studio office space and open up the backside of Sunset Blvd.

I agree that the main problem holding Hollywood Studios back is the fact that Disney is trying to shoehorn new lands into a park full of giant boxy soundstages. Disney needs to start planning NOW for the future, which means all new attractions built today need to be in places that won't get in the way of future expansion. Look at what Universal is doing with Epic Universe--every themed land is built in such a way that it could be completely demolished and replaced without affecting the rest of the park at all.

    1. Move Muppets to Animation Courtyard and add a Muppet themed flat ride in the area (Studios)
    2. Muppets to Magic Kingdom in Hall of Presidents (Great Moments show and meet and greets with muppet characters in windows - not walk around)
    3. Muppets to EPCOT at Imagination Pavilion - bringing back Dreamfinder as a kind of Jim Henson type figure and keeping Figment (of course)
    4. Bring back California Adventure or Disneyland

Plus removing a smaller attraction in a park that already has few attractions would seem stupid, legacy aside, because if we do consider legacy, thats Jim Henson's final works ever, and Disney still clearly cares about the Muppets IP considering the D+ show and the panel they just had at D23, and I've been seeing more muppet merch and muppets on social media as well.

You could look at how they handled the Galactic Starcruiser closure for some hints here, where they announced its closing very abruptly to make sure it was in line with the fiscal quarter, despite having ad plans and reservations booked beyond the closing date. This isn't the exact same scenario, but I think the fact that they announced that they were doing this Monsters Inc land without, apparently, knowing where it was going, to the point where they showed off concept art that implied two wildly different locations...sort of implies that they announced a bunch of projects for D23 with the idea that they'd "figure it out later."
Plenty of rides in theme park history get refurbed shortly before they shut down. Sometimes it's because in the process of doing the refurb, they find more expensive problems, and sometimes, someone at the top of the company just makes a call with very short notice. Also, the infrastructure concerns they're thinking of with the office might still be more expensive than eating the cost of the refurb.
Personally, it seems like a pretty obvious choice to keep the Muppets where they are (and give the area more love in the wake of this big public outcry) and put the Monsters Inc land where nobody really goes in the park, but Disney is going to...make the choices that make the most financial sense to them, whether or not it's always super great for the people who visit the parks.

Even though I wasn't aware of how big the office space was behind Launch Bay, I'd still 100% put Monstropolis in Animation Courtyard. If they need to move the office in order to do so...well...
...there is that newly empty building that was too expensive for guests to go to just outside of Galaxy's Edge...

Animation Courtyard is where Monstropolis belongs. If anything, we need MORE Muppets representation in the parks, such as the not yet built Great Muppets Movie Ride!
Also, Disney could try to create a larger Pixar area by connecting Monstropolis to Pixar Place and Toy Story Land.

Thank you again Jack for the thorough analysis and breakdown. You did such a great job.
Save Muppets! Monsters land should be replacing animation courtyard. I like the idea of the little mermaid show becoming a monsters Inc. show in the future. Disney Junior could become Boo’s dance party. But Disney needs to invest in their Muppet properties. I would love to see an updated Muppet 3-D show. More Muppet movies, shorts, or TV shows should be created, but they need to invest in better writing. I would love to see the Muppets spoof some marvel movies. I think there’s a lot of potential.

KEEP THE MUPPETS! Put Monsters Inc in Animation Courtyard. I’ve said it a bunch of times and I’ll say it a bunch more, they need to expand Muppets Courtyard by making it its own street/land like Hollywood or Sunset Boulevard as “The Muppets Grand Avenue”. That way we can revisit the original idea of The Great Movie Ride as a Muppets parody. Electric Mayhem need an attraction as well as the Disney+ was absolutely heartwarming. I like Muppet Vision 3D but, I don’t care if it stays as 3D isn’t cutting-edge tech or ideas anymore. It’s fun but outdated. Muppets need to stay regardless though!
I also LOVE your idea of moving Muppet Vision to the Hall of Presidents! I would actually watch the show then. Just give us MORE MUPPETS, Disney!

It has to be Animation Courtyard. What a waste of space. The Muppet courtyard is heavily utilized because of the show and a quick service restaurant and it’s also along the path to galaxies edge. AC would be a great way to spread out the crowds to an area that is only being used for Disney JR. That park needs more attractions not to build in place of.

I've already been confident from the beginning that it will be Animation Courtyard, but last night something hit me that made me even more sure: Mama Melrose (and to a lesser extent Pizza Rizzo). I think we all expect Harryhausen's, but I can't imagine them entirely changing the menu and retheming Mama Melrose. Maybe it could be quick service and replace Rizzo but either way I think Mama Melrose has to stay as is. Meanwhile Animation Courtyard doesn't have a restaurant, and if they build out using the space behind and around the Launch Bay there's easily space for it there, and that's adding another dining option rather than just retheming existing ones.

  • @MotorcoachTony
    @MotorcoachTony 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Everything you said I completely agree with. Animation Courtyard is the no brainer option for Monsters Land. Making it much closer to TSL and to create a full Pixar Land. So it costs more money and takes more time. I'm really tired of the "budget" nonsense Disney is always spewing. Penny wise and Dollar stupid. Can they EVER think of the BIG PICTURE? I don't mean BlueSky. I mean pay a little more, do it right, for the beauty of the FULL OUTCOME.
I'd love to see a BIG Pixar presence at DHS in one location. And I'm in COMPLETE agreement that if they remove Muppet 3D/4D Courtyard for ANY future build, they should announce in the SAME BREATH that they are moving it to a Better and BIGGER Muppet Area/Land. Muppets deserve a HUGE presence with current 4D/3D movie, a coaster, smaller kids rides, show, and multiple dining & shopping options. THEN they can remove the Muppet Courtyard, and put in an Ewoks area, connecting Galaxy's Edge & Star Tours more appropriately into one fluid immersive land.
Honestly, I say build a Guest Parking Garage at DHS, (and all parks), and really shift things around the park to flow better. Like adding Cars & Monsters IP into that one TSL/Pixar area, and creating an EPIC immersive Cars Land, with RadiatorSprings Mainstreet, but expand it to include new Racers, new rides, restaurants & shopping, with a Planes area, and incorporating more of the IP movies of that and the other Pixar franchises. But that's just me and my love for the Cars movies. Whatever they do, they should really work harder at keeping Lands themed to ONE IP or Studio.
Then take part of the DHS parking lot land and create a 25+Acre Villains Land THERE. Imagine the possibilities. It would make Universal Dark Universe tiny. (Which WILL be my favorite portal at EPIC. 🖤🩶)
Heck, shuffle the whole deck and make the 5th Gate HUGE lands with Villains, Heroes, Muppets, and Pixar. 🤷‍♂️. I just really LOVE immersive lands, and keeping same IP's in one area. The whole "hodge- podge- cram- it- in" mentality to save a few pennies gives me a headache. Disney is supposed to be better than that.
After all my pipe dreams, if I had ONE wish today, it would be to SCRAP Cars expansion at MK, save LRB & TSI, and find a way to triple the size of Villains Land.

  • @jaysonpida5379
    @jaysonpida5379 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Muppets and Monsters across the park from one-another...seems a pretty easy decision.
But then again I didn't think Disney would be getting rid of ROA at the MK...with all that 'beyond TM' talk...I thought they'd do exactly what Disneyland had done for Galaxy's Edge > shorten the ROA/TS Island and bend the railroad in closer before turning it back out to its original layout.
    Who knows with Disney anymore.
