Well, you're the first person I've seen who knew what the instrument was! It is indeed the Qobyz but it's a traditional instrument of Kazakhstan which is where Dimash comes from.
He has a 7.2 octave range and has sung in 14 different languages including Kazakh, English, Russian, Mandarin, Japanese and Spanish. He's classically trained and has a degree in vocals, a master's in composition and is currently doing his PhD alongside recording, touring the world, recording monumental music videos and doing the odd modelling job or public appearance.
He sings everything from Opera to Rap and if you're going to go further down the rabbit hole I would definitely recommend SOS, especially the 2021 version from his online concert he did during the pandemic. It's the song that shot him to stardom in China where he appeared in a show called I Am Singer which is a vocal competition for established artists.
Hey, hey, take it easy bro! I am also a huge fan of Dimash, but there is no need to inflate quantitative records. Dimash does not need your advertising. As for recommendations, of course, everyone has their own preferences, but regarding the performance of SOS, it seems to me that the Belarusian version (Slavianski Bazaar) is the best. IMHO.

About
He is famous for having an unusually wide vocal range and his ability to sing in more than fifteen languages. Dimash was born Dinmukhammed Kanatuly Kudaibergen in the Aktobe region of Kazakhstan on the 24th of May, 1994.
When he was only five years old, Dimash began taking vocal and piano lessons at the children's section of the Akhmet Zhubanov Music College. He continued his training throughout his school years and eventually attended the music institute of K. Zhubanov University. He graduated in 2014 with a classical music degree centred on vocal ability. He continued his musical education by studying contemporary music Kazakh National University of Arts in Astana.
He successfully received a Master's degree in Composition and was even recommended for the PhD program. Throughout his time at university, Dimash entered four major singing competitions in Kazakhstan. He won the National Zhas Kanat Contest with a perfect score of 180 out of 180, which was unprecedented in the competition's history. In December 2014, he was awarded a laureate of the State Youth Prize Daryn.
He released his first album in China the same year, and it went platinum in thirty-seven seconds!

I cant say he is best singer in the world because answer will be subjective anyway that's question like which one is better Vincent van Gogh or Leonardo da Vinci but as amateur vocalist I can say technically he is best vocalist who is still living in the planet not just because of he has amazing range but he mastered at every register and technics especially his flageolet register(his soprano falsetto voice) also his whistle register better then any male singer then I ever heard and his mix register technique incredible and he mastered at belt canto technics at level of opera singers

I have been a Dear since 2019 and listen to Dimash constantly, like hours every day. Also going to my first concert in Malaysia in June. His concerts are usually almost 3 hours long.

Shawka, Dimash has a 6+ octave range and many reactors have acknowledged he is probably the best singer on the planet and you can understand why. He can cross all genre's. He has been schooled since age of 5 and did not pursue a career in opera since he wanted to introduce to his "Dears" more than his classical training. His genius and artistry are self evident. He is his own label so he is not captive to corporate design and able to flourish in his creativity. As you get to know him, he is most humble paying deep respect to his parents (professional singers), family, tradition and homage to his country. He is internationally known in over 110 countries and his concerts (sold out) are another dimension looking like the UN. He is a man of peace and very loyal to his Dears (fans). The Singer series from China in 2017 began with SOS in French was a wild card in a professional free for all competition. Over 600 million Chinese made him a superstar overnight. Sinful Passion is another introduction to his range and timbre. Love is like a Dream is a deep frye building to a vocal level some called angelic. Very captivating. There are many more to enjoy and each can stand on its own. Many I consider a masterpiece, but each to his own. His videos are like short films and pull you in. Holy cow alright! Go down the Dimash rabbit hole - you won’t be disappointed - he will give you something mind blowingly different every time. There’s always more - unbelievable talent, voice, stage presence.
This is just one facet of the talent of Dimash - he sings in 15 different languages (2 fluently - his native Kazakh and Russian) and he has good English, otherwise lyrics are learned phonetically - an incredible talent in itself. He is a skilled musician, plays 7 instruments, is a composer, director, producer, actor, model, academic (2 degrees including a masters in classical bel canto/jazz vocals, composition and currently undertaking his Doctorate in Musicology), businessman, humanitarian and patriot. On top of that he is as humble as he is talented. His versatility across most genres is amazing.

He uses techniques from opera, modern lyric, ethnic, glam, hard rock and pop environments.
Registers don´t apply to him. Not only male voice, no female voice, no alien voice: Dimash´s voice.

That is an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments.

You were Dimashified. You may have been shocked by Dimash but I was shocked by you finding Dimash by your first listen being stranger. This one is a heavy song to be introduced to Dimash by. Everything he does outdoes the one before. He has so much live stag material that it will freak you out. Sometimes he has to do mic tricks so that people can know that this stuff really is live. Wikipedia has his career as starting at age 2 with two professional parents introducing him to the stage and his career at th3 music academy at the university starting at age 5 when his grandmother found he had perfect pitch and at five he also one his first piano contest. You did not stumble on an ordinary person or singer. Dimash is a maestro vocalist practicing with or without a vocal coach 3 hours a day. He was a child prodigy and still is an adult prodigy. Starting his career earlier than his two idols Michael Jackson and Freddy Mercury who both abused their bodies in different ways and Michael had surgery to keep his voice high and Freddy had beers lined up on the piano on stage while he performed and slept with anything that moved without protection. Dimash is clean and and a humble kind shy person not putting himself further than those he performs with. He has so many talents that we have to be thankful that we’re living in the century of Dimash, the vocalist in a hundred years. This was 5 octaves not 4 no offense. Dimash sings in every register and can sing each note with more than 10 techniques.

The gentleman playing the Kobyz is master Olzhas Qurmanbeck, the best player in Kazakhstan 🎻🔝 The Kobyz is the first stringed instrument ever. Kobyz is an ancient tool of the Kazakh people. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many people, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. 🔝🔝🔝

Stranger is a very good performance to discover Dimash. And then, there are a long list of other masterpieces in all genres (opera, rock, folk, ballads...). He is the best singer of the world, and perhaps of the history, because beyond his insane vocal range, he has a total control of his voice, in all registers, of his breath, and a powerful stage presence. And last but not least, he is an extraordinary person: very humble, always polite, trying to transcend borders, cultures and religions, fed by philosophy and literature, an impressive young man.

Thank you so much for reacting to Stranger, yet another masterpiece composed by Igor for Dimash! Basically, whenever you see Igor Krutoy at the piano performing with Dimash, it means that he’s the composer of the songs he sings.
It was Dimash’s idea to incorporate the beautiful and haunting sound of the Qobyz, the traditional Kazakh string instrument: what a brilliant addition to the composition! It gives much more depth to the meaning of the song I think.
Also, listening to Stranger is in and of itself a musical journey where we’re accompanying Dimash through this “stranger’s land” with each and every vocal technique and singing style which denotes a different culture and path in life. Dimash is such an amazing storyteller and performer! And of course, he’s an insanely masterful and talented vocalist!

Yes Kobyz but its from Kazakhstan as Dimash is a very proud Kazakh, nothing here is middle eastern more Central Asian. Yes he can sing all the notes, all the octave and all the genres. Dimash is a most highly educated musician up to his present PhD studies. Only 28 years old he was 27 here, and he has been on stage for 23 years, professionally for the last 12 years since he was 16. Winner of so many prestigious international vocal contests there is no space here to list them. From an amazingly musical family and all his friends are musicians. He is well known in the music industry with offers of collaborations worldwide from people such as Hans Zimmer. Dimashis a superstar with innumerable fans worldwide and fanclubs in every continent. He prefers live solo concerts where he can be with his Dears, as his fans are called because we are his family and are very Dear to him. His stadium concerts are epic and he is a rockstar 💖
I think Central Asia is just lost in perception of people outside the region. You say Asia, and people can only remember China, Japan, Korea, not even India or Russia, less so any other Asian countries. But Dimash made the region known to the entire world.

She's a superb classical cellist, but she also does all kinds of projects and experiments with different styles, she's even done some heavy metal stuff where she gets pretty wild, she has a great stage presence too - I could see Dimash doing a Hans Zimmer video project involving Tina, that would be really cool IMO!! Igor Krutoy (Krutoy means 'Cool', *1954 in Ukraine SSR). He lives and works in Moscow/ Russia. He is singer, a world- famous composer and music titan in Russia (billionaire). His family is in the US now. Krutoy came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The maestro and Dimash have been working together from time to time since 2018. They are friends and have a father-son relationship.
Dimash said also in an interview about the collaboration with Igor Krutoy that it is important to him that the songs are written in such a way that there is room for variations ... so every performance of a song is a surprise and every Dear can choose his favorite presentation... I can not decide.
The lyrics were written by Mary Sharon Vaughn (*1947, American musician, songwriter and producer. She writes hits for famous singers around the world, including Lara Fabian)

Есть много певцов с широким диапазоном, но у них он просто для галочки, хоть и полный диапазон у них шиирокий, но рабочий диапазон таких певцов крайне маленький, контролировать весь диапазон очень сложно и просто ударять по нотам это не пение. Димаш имеет более 7 октав диапазона, и этот диапазон рабочий, он не только достигает этих нот, он их контролирует и поет. Даже самая высокая нота Димаша D8 в свистковом регистре, контролировалась, и имела вибрато. Запредельный уровень вокального мастерства, и выносливости. Dimash is THE greatest vocalist of ALL time! The music was composed by famous billionaire Russian composer/music mogul (on piano) Igor Krutoy. Igor came out of retirement in 2018 to work with and compose for Dimash when he first heard him sing in 2018. This is Krutoy’s annual competition for singers New Wave in Russia. Dimash was a guest here in 2021 and he was also one of the judges. This was the premier performance of this song. However Dimash has sung it very differently since then, every performance is incredibly amazing! Dimash is also a great composer. He has just released his latest composition masterpiece The Story of One Sky, a music video 13 mins and 40 secs long (it cost Dimash over 7,000,000 USD, the most expensive MV ever created) Dimash also acted in the MV and he wrote the screen play. It is truly a work of art, (although it’s extremely harrowing)….
Dimash is also a multi-instrumentalist (7 instruments), he plays really well! He’s 28 years old and has been attending music school since he was 5. Happy to see you experience Dimash. Your channel is about to be bombarded. For future reference,you'll always want to look for English subtitles with his video's. He performs in multiple languages. He also performs many songs that have very deep messages,lots of feelings,lyrics are important. Dimash got his big break on The Singer 2017. This was a competition program in China. The performances from that program are a good starter. English subtitles are available. Opera 2 from this program is great. Look for the video that is captioned Dimash sings Opera 2 not knowing dad is in the audience. It was posted by Irises in The Sun. Sorry I don't know how to do the link thingy. His youtube channel contains other live performances, official music videos,etc. He is well known for never performing a song the same way twice. So you can watch him perform a song at a venue,watch the same song at another venue,then turn around and watch the MV of that song and all the performances are different. I wouldn't advise reacting to The Story of One Sky until he has at least a couple more Dimash songs under his belt. Yes we'd love everyone to see it but it's a very complex song for someone who doesn't know what Di is capable of yet.

This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys, Qobyz or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the mother (prototype) of all European string instruments.
