    Love your channel! you asked for feedback: 1- THANK YOU for numbering your episodes... wish other channels did the same. 2- would like to see more of how you guys plot your charter and things you consider for passage timing. 3- we’re sailors in training, going through our ASA certifications, etc... we’d like to hear more about what “scares” you throughout your adventures. High seas, freaky storms, worrying about the anchor hold as you attempt to sleep in wind, etc. 4- security while you’re away from the vessel? One of my concerns is both of us being too far away during provisioning trips etc. how do you manage those concerns? Thanks again guys!

      Hey Doug we love the feedback, all great ideas that we will absolutely work on covering on upcoming videos!! And actually, it will fit nicely with our upcoming videos because we are working very hard right now planning for our upcoming passage across the pacific!! Stay tuned & thanks again!!

    Hi guys, we’re huge fans of your channel. We have both retired early and have decided to take the plunge and buy our first boat. It’s a new Seawind catamaran which has been shrink wrapped in Vietnam since last March. We’re desperate for Covid travel restrictions to lift, so we can get it. Anyway - content? I’m scared witless at the thought of having to carry out boat maintenance and fixes as I have zero experience of electrics, plumbing, motors etc. Some ‘how to’s’ would be invaluable to me to increase both my knowledge and confidence. Thank you for allowing us to sail virtually with you. I can’t tell you how desperate we’ve been having a new cat, but being stuck in the UK. Hope we enjoy the experience as much as you do ;)

      Hi Paul!! Man, welcome and CONGRATULATIONS!! Man that’s an exciting time, and by the sounds of it, incredibly frustrating too!! I would be flat out LOOOOOSING IT!! Man we really hope this all ends soon, especially for you all!! Anyways, ya the maintenance can be daunting, and unfortunately having a new boat isn’t always an out for that either, and often they actually need MORE attention, but I assure you- YOU GOT THIS!! And what’s more, the sailing community has GOT YOU!! We are constantly helping one another, and every where we have gone so far there are strings of people everywhere that are there for questions, tool loaning, and often even physical assistance! So we will continue including how-to’s, and definitely consider dedicated videos as well- great idea!! Ok well keep your chin up, and thanks for watching and commenting!!

    Open up the clamp and cut an aluminum can into a shim. With the added space from opening the clamp and the pop can shim you should take up some of the slack until you get a new piece. (Although by the time you get this the boat is out of the water already 😂😎) cheers!

    Sometimes just a change of scenery is enough to recharge the batteries. I'll often start a new project before finishing one just to keep interest.
    Regarding the steering arm slack, a section of rubber hose or something similar would take up some space and may even improve "gription".
    As far as content suggestions, would love to see a tour of VA's systems -- nav, water maker, solar, etc. I'm a sucker for nerd stuff.

    Great vid thanks. Idea: put a two minute segment in each vid about just one system in closeup. Eg where does plumbing go…. close up looks at the channels and holes the pipes go through and connections…. just how all systems have details that you need to gradually get familiar with so you can fix later. Close up and detailed but short time 2 or 3 mins. Short enough no one gets bored, but interesting to future captains. Also.. drone video of water…. always be up sun (unless you want the reflections) especially sea life footage. Just suggestions, what you do is fantastic and we love watching you guys living a great life.

    Man I have been waiting for you two to get back on the water this is so exciting. Question do you ever worry about other boat pirates or security when you're boating? You're a living a lot of people's dreams great video. ⛵⛵

    • @WEsail
      @WEsail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey hey guys!! Ya we have worried about that in the past, it’s really very dependent on the area… in fact, when we were first sailing in the Caribbean, it was wild to us that one island (country) would be safe as a sandwich and the next one we had to really watch our shit… then from there it was hit or miss really, and it didn’t always follow the public view of an area, for instance- Cuba was SAFE!! Then Belize was a place where we locked everything, then Mexico, SAFE! Colombia, SAFE! So it just depends, and there usually a bunch of online resources for cruisers to learn about such stuff prior to visiting…. Cheers and stay tuned!!

  • @donkinzer5718
    @donkinzer5718 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great video. Thanks. At 24:08 when you were saying that the engines were off and you were sailing, it looked to me like the throttles were in reverse. On the F-P Helia that we chartered, there was a note on the throttle housing saying that the throttles should be positioned like that when sailing with the engines off. Do you follow that practice?
    Also, I found that the absence of cluthes for the headsail sheets was often inconvenient - requiring that the active headsail sheet be secured to one of the winches. Have you found the missing clutches to be an issue and will you be adding them?

    • @WEsail
      @WEsail  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Don thanks for watching and commenting!! Yes we do keep the throttles in reverse and the reason is that with fixed props (what’s supplied from FP from the factory, any boat with folding props is an add on) the sail drives still turn while under sail, IF the motors are in neutral… when put in reverse the props and thus the sail drives stop, saving a ton of unnecessary wear and tear on the gears and whole sail drives… also, agreed it’s kind of weird to not have clutches for the active sheet but honestly, now that we are used to that, probably wouldn’t add them even if they were given to us… we have that one dedicated winch for the jib sheet, and the other two can easily cover all our other needs…. Might be a different story IF we raced, and therefore might be flying both the main & jib combined with one of our spinnakers, then we might need that third winch freed up… anyways thanks for asking, hope that helps!

    BTW that steering arm may hold, but by opening that gap to tighten it onto the steering shaft you may/will have put more stress on those cracks,... suggestion; either replace it with a new one or take to a machine shop have them replicate one or at the very lest have the hole refilled and re-drilled and cracks welded up... there would be a cack load of force going through that arm (depending on seas, weather, speed, sailing conditions etc) meanwhile still loving your Vids eh. Here’s a question I’ve always wondered: how thin are the walls? Like the boat next to you, can you here them talking when they are inside? Sometimes that could make for some “interesting” moments.

    • @WEsail
      @WEsail  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha ya it would!! Well to answer, you have way more likelihood being annoyed by the slapping water (and even sometimes fish!) on the hulls than you will be by neighbors… tue hulls are thick enough for safety but you do get a fair amount of noise transfer from the outside, mostly base from party’s or sea noise

      Hey Carol first thank you, and second sorry - we have had occasional comments like these (especially lately) and I swear we are paying attention to sounds editing more than ever and for whatever reason, cannot get it right!?? We even watch the videos on different devises before exporting them just to verify, but even that doesn’t seem to be working all the time… very frustrating… anyways, thanks for watching and commenting, would love if you sent us a message anytime you notice messed up sound, and maybe even let us know where so we can go back and see what is happening during editing?? Just a thought, if you had the time… CHEERS

    Many problems I see in boats were built into them when they were built. An engineer that rebuilt Japan after the war said make the repair better than the original design. Stand back and look at new materials, and designs. Dyneema rope is made of the same plastic found in the milk jugs yet it is stronger than steel, and floats. It would take over 4,300,000 lbs rip apart a cubic foot block of aluminum, but the same 166lbs of bamboo would take over 35,714,285 lbs to rip apart. They make bamboo boards, and marine plywood. Top loading freezers, and refrigerator don't dump out the cold air bath that the food is in. Check; Ooops... yacht into tiny beach house / Sailing mangrove charlie this is a cool design, and he researched marine bamboo.

    Just a very swedish question - why do you need TWO bathrooms for two beds you basically never use? I mean, people CAN share bathrooms for a week or two. They will survive. BUT, a really good storage room for you...? Yeah. Need instead of want. Be practical. /Catta from Sundsvall!

    Don’t you think it’s about time you learn how to set your sails? That spinnaker looks terrible… The problem with a lot of sailing channels is they don’t learn how to sail…. It sends the wrong message to hopeful cruisers..

      Well, do you think maybe we are dealing with something you aren’t aware of, maybe? For instance, our only spinnaker is the one we brought from our older, smaller boat, and it’s all we have for right now, and it’s undersized, so we make do with what we have…. but thanks for sending us a kind message, cheers.
