Samus and Ridley are falling down a 16+ kilometer shaft at terminal velocity And the only thing on their minds is making sure the other dies first Ridley can fly Samus doesn't have that luxury Like, she literally was thinking "kill Ridley first, figure out how not to die later"

Back in 2007/8-ish, playing this on a 32" 4:3 Sony wega trinitron CRT TV(with a set of component cables, while having Zero motion blur) with a Wii remote and nunchuck was straight up revolutionary! I wish they'd port this over to Quest 3. :P VR is the next logical step for Prime. It's funny, i wasn't a huge fan of Prime 1, and especially the 2: Echoes, but 3 completely won me over.
@@e.e.mccutcheon979 Valve must've liked the concept of falling down a shaft, since they later used it in Portal 2. At least Chell has plot convenient fall damage cancelling gloves.
Prime 3 was my first ever Metroid game. I played it when I was 11. This battle and Meta Ridley's awesome theme is what made me fall in love with the game.
According to the footage, Samus is falling 56 meters per second. If she fell from a starting height of about 17,000 meters, she would have a little over 5 minutes of fall time.

The music and Meta Ridley are originally from the Original Metroid Prime if anyone is wondering. Wonder why the devs decided to bring both back in the third installment of the prime trilogy?
The internet tried to gaslight me into thinking this bossfight didn't exist but I knew it did. Thank you for posting it so I could show a friend this twenty-something-or-so-foot metal space dragon getting his ass absolutely handed to him while falling down an elevator shaft.
I totally forgot how cold Samus was in this game. She just shoved her arm cannon down Ridley's throat and opened fire nonstop at the end. This fight was absolutely brutal and hardcore.
Easily the best boss fight in this game, also it did not have to be balanced for hyper mode so Ridley is not so tanky as the following boss fights. Dark Samus is the second best though.
of course, they are sworn enemies and Ridley DID kill Samus' parents and is largely responsible for everything that has gone wrong in Samus' life, how can they NOT try to kill each other?
I did the math (albeit poorly I think) If she was going at 193 kph (about 120 mph) she would have a smidgen less than 3 minutes to fuck up Ridley's throat up worse than a basket of ghost pepper wings would rip apart my ass. This is what I used.

Ridley can fly
Samus doesn't have that luxury
Like, she literally was thinking "kill Ridley first, figure out how not to die later"
She has bird magic on her side
I like to think she'd just infinite wall jump out like in super, and Rundas is just a faster option
With Ridley, it's always on sight and all other priorities become secondary.

Not too shabby.
No problems
I was late because I was watching the Incredibles last night.
Anyway I have an idea for an Ice user ally.
Mind explaining? Ive never seen harry potter
This is one of the most awesome boss battles I have ever seen.
You have not played Metal Gear games have you?
I know, right? How come metroid is the only franchise with this type of boss battle concept, and the concept works?
@@lyndonluquin4091It isn't. Try Sin & Punishment: Star Successor Snapper Keeper. Very similar and awesome boss battle. 😁

This is roughly a 10 mile fall and they're falling around 100 mph
Nearly reaching Terminal Velocity, which is not impossible yet a bit hard considering the pressure increasing every... 2000 meters?
@@lyndonluquin4091 I don't think the laws of physics are that important in a game featuring a big metal dragon

Good point, but there's gotta be logic somewhere.
@@lyndonluquin4091 The logic is this game needed an escape / countdown sequence and what they came up with is totally badass

I wouldn't say this was my favorite Metroid game but this was definitely the most intense Ridley battle
3:01 You can just tell that Samus is getting sick 'n tired of Ridley's BS. She's practically screaming; "WHY! WON'T! YOU! DIE?!"

Kinda like the battle between Gandalf and the Balrog in Lord of the Rings

You gotta love how Ridley just shows up out of nowhere and attacks Samus without elaborating further. That's a rivalry like none other 👍
