@KoivuTheHab Obviously an exaggeration for comedic effect. 13 Canadian penalties against 4 U.S.A. penalties and literally every article written about the game not by an American noted that so many of these penalties were not warranted at all.

its a fine line between incompetence and outright cheating...this is a tough one...cheating as in 1972 basketball or incompetence as in 2012 women's soccer, this hockey ref is a little of both, definitely incompetent and perhaps overwhelmed by the situation. .perhaps an NHL referee should have been used ,luckily the team being cheated won

I watched this game live with some buddies and we were all infuriated by the refereeing in this game. It still upsets me some even to this day whenever it happens to come to mind. The Canadian women were shorthanded for practically half the game it seemed. Who the hell were the IDIOTS that decided to allow a U.S. referee to officiate this game, and why wasn't she replaced after the first period when it became so apparent that she was doing everything she could to help the U.S. team win? Absolutely ludicrous, and hopefully nothing like that will ever be allowed to happen again. Justifiably the Canadian women won in spite of it all. I don't know what happened to that U.S. bitch but I hope she was banned from refereeing ever again. The referee was on the U.S. teams side, but GOD was on the Canadian teams side eh.

I remember that game...correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there were 8 or 10 straight penalties against the Canadian women's team. There were 2 or 3 instances they were 2 women short. That ref was pressured/paid off to give many penalties to the Canadians.

hockey is played all over the world. Though the other leagues aren't at a high level like the NHL, they're still not bad at all. There are rarely any competitive or noteworthy football leagues, basketball leagues or baseball leagues outside of NA

First of four straight Olympic gold medals... Need we say more about which team has been the best when the top prize is on the line??

Your right it is the only sport Canada is the best at, and Canadians know it, and Canadians love it. Hockey is much more than a sport in the Canadian heart it is a flame in the Canadian soul. 2010 Canadians won many gold medals in all kinds of sports, which was great but when Canada won gold in both Hockey matches millions danced in the streets from coast to coast. I hear the only time that happens in any other country is when they rarely beat Canada.

All 3 goals the Canadian got was from even strength. The American got both goals from power plays. If this game had a fair referee the scores could've been 3 - 0 for Canada.

This was single worst officiated and clearly biased job of reffing in the history of hockey. And the Canadian girls still won.

I didn't think that many americans liked hockey either, but I'm only in Pennsylvania so I guess it's just not popular where I live.
All I here is "PHILLIES!" "EAGLES" "STEELERS" I don't really hear "Flyers"

Tommy Sandal Unfortunately, they lost 4 times and now PK Subban is running around in the jungles of the Congo again. You know if you breed him and Serina Williams, the Habs can have another good defensemen in about 18 years.

I've seen way worse reffing in peewee b, the ref didn't know what offside was their player was standing beside my net when the puck exited then reentered without that player moving.

A really terrible display of attempted cheating knowing her "American" team will get beaten if she doesn't handicap our team. Looked terrible on her for making such a ridiculous example of her own arrogance.
However I was proud to see my fellow Canadians only pick up her own shortcomings and not directing anger or disrespect to out American counterparts! It was a great final between all 4 Canadian and American teams!

i remember this game well, i believe most of the Canadian powerplays came in the first period, then don cherry predicted a rash of penalties against Canada... amazingly he was right!
Anyone of you Americans notice that all your best chances came on the powerplay?
The reason why Canada and the USA meet in the gold medal games is because the European nations haven't had a women's program that's as old or as well-funded as the North America's. Though Sweden and Finland are catching up...
