Not really, it was implied he was evil, it turned out he had the motivation to avenge his family by killing Klaus. Elijah will always be morally flexible when it comes to his family. Then out turned out Klaus never actually liked his siblings so he changed his mind.

The dictionary should hold his pic next to the word(s) badass and/ or dangerous IMHO. He's classy where Klaus is callous, elegantly ruthless where others are simply vengeant.
