At least the Empress can fake emotions: the Emperor's brother is so bad at it, a blind person would know it is all an act and that he's in cahoots with the Empress. Even the eunuchs are torn up at the prospect of the Emperor having died in the fire, but his own jealous, entitled brother, who wants the throne and the Empress can't even fake a tear so he's got to hide his face with his hand. His horror to see the Emperor emerge from the hidden stairwell was priceless: if his eyeballs got any bigger, he'd roll away. The way he's so dramatic when he says "It is my fault! I should be sliced into pieces!" is just comical. I had forgotten how overly dramatic the writers make his character.
