  • On May 6th and 8th, 2024, I ventured out to CPKC rails in Wisconsin and Illinois to capture Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 Hudson #2816 "The Empress" on its Final Spike Steam Tour from Calgary to Mexico City. I started out in Reeseville, Wisconsin on the Watertown Subdivision before following the special train to Milwaukee and down into Illinois. On the 8th, I watched at Franklin Park as the #2816 departed for Tower A-5 in Chicago under a nice sunset. After the consist was spun to face west, I caught them again in Franklin Park returning to Bensenville Yard. It was pretty spectacular to see this elegant steam locomotive traverse tracks I frequent so often. The classy FP9As being dragged along were also a neat bonus!

Banger! Amazing coverage, Sam. Some of the best drone flying we've seen.

Cool, we chased it on the 9th from Bensenville to Davenport, it was very wet during the 2nd half but very fun.

Thank you for this wonderful video of Canadian Pacific engine #2816 as it steamed through Wisconsin and Illinois to Franklin Park, Illinois, Sam! You did an excellent job of capturing the train as it left Franklin Park to go to Tower A-5 to turn the train on the wye at Tower A-5. The sequence of the train returning to Bensenville Yard under the I-294 bridge at the east end of Bensenville Yard was breathtaking!

Lovely work, great views. I offer my compliments. Could I ask you, though, to check your color-balance. You're too far into the blue.

Thanks! I try my best to color correct my shots. Some may look bluer than others because I shot on different cameras.
