    Who wouldn't want to be as prolific as this guy? Then again, I think many filmmakers, beyond the usual problem of financing, just think too highly of their work. When you make as many movies per year as Hong, you gotta acept that some of those movies will not be as good as you want them to be. So, in order to be that prolific, you also have to be pretty humble. And that's the hard part.

      Alejo Paredes financing is no.1 theme of modern narrative filmmaking. Maybe Hong is the best solutionist on financing film. Like, he really gave up his favorite thing in filmmaking. A Film sheet. He turned to digital. That kind of give-up process also could be look doubled with classical old filmmaker and artist's diminishing process on their matter factors and brushes or colors

      have you heard of lav diaz? it seems like non western/mainstream directors have the advantage to be prolific..
      for example lav diaz, lav have already made like 4 or 5 films since 2016.

    • @chaidle
      @chaidle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      PinoyAbnoy i didnt see lav diaz. Is he better than apichatpong??????? I really respect and worship Apichatpong as a moder cinema genius. But some of those Asians who are popular with prolificism and profoundness are little bit overestimated as I think.

    • @PinoyAbnoy
      @PinoyAbnoy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      who are your other fave asian directors? lav diaz's movies are different compare to apichatpong.

    • @chaidle
      @chaidle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      PinoyAbnoy my fav is apichatpong. Isent messege when I was in thailand that requesting I participate in his team as a volunteer. But they refused it softly.
      Ah of course I love old Japanese films. Like Kurosawa. They were really brilliant. I feel good when I see their succesful mix of art and feature films.

    36:50 what a flex, lmao... that explains why he's so prolific, Hong Sang-Soo is a fricking writing/directing machine. but yeah, i think he's constantly under pressure, so the guy just CAN'T overthink anything. that takes a lot of motivation and is really inspiring but, honestly, it seems dangerous. i hope he doesn't burn out or anything like that

    I am very much interested in what the mediator of the debate commemt about Hong's speech on the Q&A the night before about Bresson. Could the Lincoln Center and the NYFF please make avaiable this debate or at least some extract of those declarations? Thanks so much

    • @altman123
      @altman123 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hong was asked about his time at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He said that during that period he was mostly making experimental work and it wasn't until he saw Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest that he became interested in narrative filmmaking.
