Matt I love all your KSP videos but PLEASE make an orbital rendezvous + docking tutorial. Learning that infinitely boosts the effectiveness of multiple stage launches and I just cannot find a tutorial that can hold my attention for more than 5 minutes.
it really is quite stable now. I was disappointed when ksp2 first came out but now it is quite enjoyable to play. frequent quick saves are enough to get around any bugs that I do get nowadays. And generally, i am making frequent quick saves anyway
HAH! Only recently i have reached the skill level of being able to do Duna missions with excess DeltaV! Thanks for all of the videos over the years Matt but i have no need for them anymore!
Matt, please tell me what are your graphics settings? I play at the highest...but I can't achieve the same beautiful picture. My clouds are not so voluminous and so on
39:20 The Maneuver Plan was working just fine, the only thing that messed it up was your own impatience, since the AUTO SAS was not finished turning towards the Maneuver Node (look at the Navball how it stops adjusting when togglein Time Warp and resuming after Time Warp stopped) therefore it messed up the maneuver/trajectory.... next time, give it time to finish adjusting before you press the Auto-Time-Warp button...
No seriously though, i did that Duna mission yesterday and i was surprised with how well it went, i never expected/noticed that i had grown my rocket designing abilities, i have made my launches and launchwindows very efficient, this partly due to having to create an extensive Comm-net in KSP1 and such. I can't wait untill that returns to KSP2. Non-retractable solar panels can handle the atmospheric stress that entering Duna's atmosphere exerts on them too, though! I just found this out yesterday but i feel like the heat system is less agressive than in KSP1. I had to lower the percentage of heating to 70% in order to consistently survive..
@@floppi7098 Granted, that is a lot harder than just doing a Duna transfer manouvre plan. Watch an old scott manley video on how it's done though and just try it a couple of times.. You'll get it. :)
My method for easily judging that 45degrees is to fold a piece of paper through the corner, so the side edge meets the top edge. That new corner is 45degrees! Hold that paper on the screen and you can line up Kerbin and Duna
Now this is the first time that the tutorial actually teaches something wrong. The transfer window from Duna to Kerbin is 75°, not 45°. While that may not be super important with Duna, telling people the return window would be the same as the approach window could easily strand them on Planets where the difference is actually really large - that is, everything further away from Kerbin than neighbouring Duna and Eve.
Matt, during the build, the science jr jr is listed at .050t vs the science jr at 1.00t. This means the jr jr is 5% of the weight of the regular jr. Even more weight savings than you thought! Unless KSP2 does something weird and it is a typo/the jr jr is actually .500t. Great video!
I've been (to use a British word) faffing about with a Duna mission in sandbox before committing to one in the "career" more. A few things - I am making use of "Probably Askew" and one or two other mods. I truly appreciate you doing a direct-landing version to help me determine why I keep failing when I did so well in KSP 1. I've learned that hitting the warp to maneuver button a second time if it's stopped too far away will complete the warp to a more normal time and help avoid all the over-shooting. Also if you make sure you're stable on the maneuver point direction before warping, that helps (it looked like you were but the over-shooting might've caused some misalignment). Also for other beginners, action groups for everything from toggling antennas and ladders to re-packing your parachute, they are your friend! Thank you so much for continuing this, Matt, I look forward to your next videos
Nah. This doesn’t work. I take off from Duna with 2800 DV, get to orbit, and still can’t make it back. So someone explain wtf I’m doing wrong. I’m lining up the phase angle, I’m planning the maneuver and I don’t EVER get that low of delta v heading back to Kerbin.
I'm pretty sure you're completely to blame for the inaccuracy of your maneuvers because you keep messing up in really touchy situations. It's not perfect, but duna to kerbin is not noticeable. Why can't you chill man?
My file got to Duna quickly, but I couldn’t get the monument mission to trigger because I couldn’t get close enough. Finally had to rescue the crew with another rocket, but brought a probe! Which didn’t trigger the monument either.
I REALLY miss the closest approach info you used to get in KSP 1. Also the precise maneuver tool where you could see and adjust your exact input dv numbers. I don't know how you so easily got an encounter in the video.
What a gift to wake up to some more KSP2 content from you, Matt. I'm gonna redo my Duna mission today with your insights in mind, and I'm sure it will be much easier. Your videos are both super entertaining and a crash course on great rocket design.
Ok, i tought is not gonna work. But j trust you enough because i always watch your cool videos, after that. I landed on mars then recover on earth for the FIRST TIME THANK YOU, HOU IMPROVE MY SKILLS
The missions in KSP2 are just as bad as the ones in KSP! They make no sense, your first mission to Duna should be a simple probe, followed by a robotic lander, then a landing by Kerbals! I was so hoping that KSP2 would do the mission order properly, but no they couldn't get it right, which is why I'm not playing it right now.
Make this comment the section for the most cringe things to mankind, I’ll start.. SKIBIDI TIOLET IN OHIO AT 3AM?!? WUT DU HE- Note: I am not a bot I was just trying to joke around
Mat Help! I tried to land Jebediah to the Duna Monument using a rocket with grid fins and now he's trapped with only 806 M/S Delta V. He can't make it back to the Command Module! We need the Blunderbirds!
I am so sad to see you still playing this garbage! Given the history of this game and how it was stolen from the original developers in such a horrible way by Take2 and given to a brand new studio they created just for this game. (The studio making this game). I hope you do a google search and read how badly the original developers of KSP was treated and forced to close down there studio. I hope you stop supporting this game!
Quick note: You said 'ground level is your actual true altitude', when it's the exact opposite of that. Altitude of measured from sea level, above ground level is called your height.
I can't wait for the tylo tutorial! I really struggle to understand why you insist on not taking the science jrs home to kerbin. For every single mission that you didn't take the science jr home, I felt you could have for zero cost. You're already taking the entire duna lander back to kerbin's atmosphere. The only difference is if you attach the science experiments to the final return stage. For all of these tutorials I have made the same rocket and taken the science experiments home with me and been fine. It seems like you're leaving science on the table.
When you go for the monument. Maybe take three kerbals and enough delta v to stop off at Ike. If you really wanted to show off you could do a flyby of Eve on the way back. That would do three missions in one. There no mission for Gilly, but, you know, science. 🙃
honestly, aero braking is not all that easy, i would have just gone for an engine burn, and i know all my landers are gigantic things because of this but i find it SOOOOOOOOOO much eaiser.
my kerbal has been stuck in space for 15 years orbiting the sun i cannot retrieve him cuz i dont know how i will do that lmao and get back cuz im bad at ksp cuz i havent played for a year
I feel bad about leaving them in orbit for a year, I made my lander with one one those crew cabins, also it’s a lot bigger and I had to launch two modules, I wasn’t really following along on this one
Docking is pretty easy, just align the orbit and have a tiny difference in it so you are faster than the target or other way around and then timewarp untill they align
Been waiting for ths episode forever! Thank you! Now I'm not "stuck" in Kerbin's SOI anymore :D Even managed a second trip to the mission objective and tryhard my way home. Had to go out and push with Jeb's EVA the last 15 deltaV to manage to hit Kerbin :P
I've found that EVA on Duna is okay if you jump first (I've had to do it when the ladderjust wasn't long/low enough...and I was shocked when with one jump and a little couple puffs I was at the hatch skipping the ladder completely)
Once again, great video! I can't wait for your next one though. I have a hard time landing on a specific spot when there's an atmosphere. Like the Duna mission, but especially the specific spot on Kerbin mission (side mission). I could really use some insight on how to do that :)
i just did my first ever interplanetary mission, going to the Duna monument, i wasn't too fussed where i had landed i had a rover. i was 25km from the monument. and i was not excited for it. but that journey was so relaxing and calming i genuinely wouldn't mind doing it again. your videos definitely helped. even in ksp 1 (been watching for years) keep it up man!
I got as far as Duna and landing at that spot but my Kerbal got stranded there. I even have a communications relay in orbit. That's when I gave up for a bit. I will follow along with you to get a rescue mission up there.
I need the next video Matt... I need it! On a serious note thanks for doing a mission playthrough it's fun watching you tackle the missions. It is also fun playing along with you. Keep it up!

Yep. A classic example of what we in the IT world call PEBKAC. (google it)

The game auto stops time warp at 30 seconds for a reason.

Regarding Duna aerobraking - are there science items that could be unlocked for real aerobraking protection?
That was the smoothest transition to an ad I’ve ever seen 😂

Hey Matt. To bad those rockets aren't like starship and return back to the platform for re-usability. Just saying
When I build this rocket, I only get 2621 m/s and not 5000 m/s! What am I doing wrong??
As the great one says "Check your staging".
Thank you!
Is KSP2 worth the price at its current stage? How playable is the game?
Star ship?
I should probably get a new computer just for the goddamn mission

The Kerbals never went to Duna... it's fake. If the Kerbonaughts are by the flag who's taking the photos eh?
Lets go matt lowne
