This was amazing to see the intricate work to produce these beautiful fabrics. The workmanship of all the Okinawan masters is very much appreciated. Thank you for making this film and explaining and showing the whole process for making kasuri 🙏🏻

    Fascinating!
I don't know how much the finished fabric costs but they could triple the price and it still wouldn't be enough to cover all of the skilled labor involved.

Thank you for your comment! and yes it is difficult for many textile weavers to continue the work because of the cost. Most of it is bought as Kimono fabric!

This video is so beautiful and so well made! I am a hand weaver so I know the processes involved, but the amount of labour that goes into this kasuri fabric is amazing. ありがとうございます for sharing this precious craft!

Really incredible video - thank you for sharing in such an accessible manner!
I recently saw the stunning 'Dressed by Nature: Textiles of Japan' here in MN with many stunning examples - Shibori, Boro, Sashiko, & Ikat among many others. Ainu fish-skin coats, to 19th century fire brigade uniforms, & partially paper rain jackets, to an entire room of bingata & a post-sumptuary laws robe with an indigo-dyed floating relief weft exterior & a golden-yellow floral bingata interior, not to mention that piece of cloth that is identical to some of those garments in the Naha City Museum of History...
But while it's all WOW for me the Ikat was one of the biggest highlights even more so in hindsight as I didn't fully comprehend the technical as well as aesthetic beauty of kasuri; that was until I saw your very detailed video.
P.S. I especially love the workflow diagram!
