🙏 Thank you very much, we love it 😍 And the voice, good job, because I've a face for radio 🤣. Your username is interesting, my Nan lived on a street in southeast London called Durham Rise.
Well, if it's the one in Plumstead, then yes (and it's the only one I can find!) My Nan used to live in the Victorian terraces at the bottom end the rise, the Vicarage Road end. Number 27 rings a bell but I was very young. I think they were knocked down in the early '70s and rebuilt. Nan got moved on to the 9th floor of a tower block by Woolwich Arsenal station.
Thanks for the lovely video of my home town. Having lived here nearly all of my life, it is easy to take it for granted and ignore just how beautiful a town it is. In the 1920s and 30s there was a peak of about 90 pubs in Faversham. Tanners Street had 4, Lower West Street had another 4, Abbey Street had about 6, the list goes on... Please come back for another visit.
Hi Alan, We will; we just love Faversham; it's so charming. We just need to negotiate a designated driver and then enjoy some of those pubs. Thanks for stopping by to leave a comment, Cheers, Gary & Janis
hi my friend thank you for making this video of my town of faversham I lived here all my life 48 years next week and I walk all over and round faversham creek basically every day we not a big town still beautiful place to visit the walks me my brother and mates go on are really good mainly open fields past the creek I remember carbing down the creek how wonderful those days where good and where we all live wouldn't swap it for the world and still living in the same road please carry on with making your videos because really interesting and enjoy so thank you from a faversham citizen
🙏 Thanks so much -I'm so pleased you liked it 😍 To me it's is so important that locals like my videos, I want to promote the very best of a place. I think Faversham can be a little overlooked, and in these difficult times, I would like others to enjoy your town, safely, to make sure the businesses survive and that when we are out the other side, it still remains as vibrant as ever. Thanks so much for the comment, stay safe, stay well.
Hi Ian, Thanks so much. I am so glad you liked our little video and that it provided a little extra inspiration. I know we need to go back and cover a little more of Faversham, perhaps later this summer. All the best, Gary & Janis
🙏 Thanks so much. so glad you liked it - We've got some more planned for locals towns, and we're working on our latest little road trip at the moment. Ahhh, Wimbledon, so much more than just tennis - Have a great one. 😍
Lovely photos and a fair tour of our beautiful town, esp as you featured my hanging baskets (which were tomato plants this year!). The Ship Inn (famously) was not actually a Sheps' pub but part of the Courage chain.
🙏 Thank you so much - it means a lot if a local likes my video. It is such a beautiful place, and we really want to pop back, but only when it's safe to do so. It's about halfway between our home near Aylesford and our families near Herne Bay. Now, what were your hanging baskets? Give me a timestamp, please. Also, is there anything we must not miss when we do pop back? take care, stay safe and all the very best for 2021 😍
@@OurWorldForYou Hanging baskets had Tumbling Tom tomatoes in - I thought passers-by might help themselves but I don't think anyone did: so polite! At about 7' in.....
Ahhh with the beautiful blue door, beautiful looking home. You can't beat fresh home grown tomatoes - wonderful flavour. We had some this year on our patio - we knew we wasn't going to be travelling so more time to enjoy home 😍
🙏 Thanks so much - That voice, that's me 😊 Gary. I think the pub thing is my not so hidden secret, I love a good pub - not to get drunk; to socialise, meet new people, listen to stories. I definitely think Faversham is a hidden gem in Kent, a well-kept secret. Thanks for your comment; take care, stay safe.
OMG this was beautiful, thankyou soooo much for taking my hubby and me down memory lane. I used to live in Faversham up until around 17yrs of age so it was great to see so many familiar landmarks. this Utube was sent to me via a friend to show your Lockdown songs, little did she know that I lived in Faversham What a treat, here I am in NZ Level 4 revisiting my youth :) Keep up the good work guys, I also watched the 2nd video Road Trip which I also really loved
🙏 Thanks so much. It's one of the great pleasures of creating these videos; people reconnecting with times gone by. Do you have any requests? Where should we travel to next? (We have the north Kent coast earmarked from Seasalter along towards Westgate, probably a video of Canterbury once restoration work is completed on the cathedral) Thanks again for the comment, Stay safe, stay well. 😍
Lovely video of Faversham where I was born and lived until I moved away at 19. It has a lot of unique shops. From the Guildhall down Court Street is a little tiny Lane where my Nan used to live. I spent many many happy hours there with her. Then she moved to one of The Almshouses. I used to frequent the open air swimming pool during the summer. The large Recreation Ground or "the rec" as it is known was a large open space with lots of room for games, swings and a slide. Great days.
🙏 Thank you so much - I am delighted you liked it. I guess in a lot of ways, it probably hasn't changed too much. Thanks again - stay safe, stay well & happy travels. 😍
🙏 Thanks Steve. I think Faversham gets overlooked by those heading to the coast, but it's certainly worth a visit. We know Whitstable, and much of that north Kent coast, but we've never seemed to capture it. It's on the list, and probably one for a bright autumnal day.
🙏 Thanks so much Hannah, we're down by Aylesford, but both families are Beltinge way, so not a million miles from you. Our plans are to capture that part of the coast, but that pesky lockdowns have hampered us. Still, we're out and about and enjoying the partial sun -if just a little cold. Take care, safe travels.
@@OurWorldForYou Yes the lockdowns have been difficult for us explorers! I was in Aylesford the other day researching walks for my group :) Lovely place.
How cool, I assume you checked out the friars? wonderful place. And if you were walking did you head to the North Downs towards Kits Coty? And then there's Chapel Down's Vineyards too.
@@OurWorldForYou I walked past the Friars but on an 8 mile walk so I like to just keep walking, plus it was 8am! Yes up to Burham and then uphill to NDW then Kits Coty. BEAUTIFUL!!! I'll defo be back soon :)
Wow, that's a walk - nice pub up on the downs, The Robin Hood - perhaps too much for 8am! The next Village along, Wouldham, has the grave of Walter Burke in whose arms Lord Nelson died. Pretty little place too.
A very interesting and informative video, which still retains it`s historic charms, for now anyway. ! As a historian, I have spent a fair amount of time following through that history, whilst enjoying a beer or two in the many pubs. I also found great delight in the wonderful bird life on the water. Sadly, living in New Zealand as I do now, ducks in this country fear humans, as they are blasted off the water every year, so that many rivers here are almost completely devoid of aquatic bird life - the NZ huntin and fishin mentality :( Thanks for the upload :)
🙏 Thanks - we have a few more planned for the summer months, as travel will be a little limited. We've a few more historic towns and villages to peel the layers back on where we can. I didn't realise the NZ hunting was such a big thing, glad we have avoided that. Thanks for the comment - take care and stay tunned 😍
@@OurWorldForYou Yes, sadly, the duck shooting is distressing for many people, and is always a point of contention. Last year, after a delayed start due to Covid, it was an absolute massacre. I live right by a river, so difficult to avoid it :( Anyway, very good news that you may produce some other videos of various historic towns - very good production indeed :) Take care !
@@OurWorldForYou thanks it was because I was heaning around with the wrong people who just used me for my money ounce it was all gone so we're they I sold my house stupidly and ended up homeless I'm in a hostel now out of the aira now but I still regret leaving faversham it's nicer than where I am now but here's to a better 2022
Hi, thanks for the video, it’s amazing! We are an Indian family, planning to move to Faversham from London. I was wondering if the immigrants are welcome?! Also wondering does people commute to London from this place at all? We have no intention to ruin the village culture but we are just looking for a decent sized place for my big family (2 kids). Any thoughts are welcome!
Hi Kiran, I think commuting will be easy; London is just over an hour away, but you can expect it to be expensive, and if you have to drive to the station parking will be an additional cost. Now to the second part of your question, and a much more difficult one for me to answer. I can say that on our visits, it seems to lack diversity, but I cannot say whether that would be an issue for you and your family. It may be worth visiting and exploring the town and gauging the reaction for yourself. There's another part to the equation as well. That is Faversham is expanding, and new estates are planned, or being planned, and some feel this is unwelcome, and will spoil Faversham. So again perhaps visit Faversham and see if you get the feeling that it is right for you. I have searched for cultural centres that may be able to assist, but I struggled to find any in Faversham that could assist. Anyway, I hope this is of some help, thanks for commenting, and all the best for you and your family in the future Cheers, Gary & Janis
An obsession with pubs, yet missing out Preston Street, shrine of St Jude and the railway history and Steven and Matilda. And the town seems to have no visitors.
🙏 Thanks Terry - I think you've helped me decide there needs to be a part 2. Hands up, I missed some large parts of the town. Next time I will cover the route from the station to the town. As for missing people, it's sort of my editing style. I like to protect people's privacy where I can and certainly won't include children. That's just me. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Stay safe, stay well
Tabitha, think it's better than shouting 🤣 That's just me I guess, shy and retiring (Anyone who knows me would question that!) Hope you enjoyed it anyway.
Stevie, I agree with you, Kent is being overdeveloped, and some of the plans for Faversham are horrifying. It seems the UK's housing needs can only be met by huge scale developments throughout Kent. We feel the pain as we live in a small village of 750 homes, and a developer is proposing building a further 900 homes, with a possible development of another 600.
