- Philip Gamble, a world-renowned UK immigration and nationality expert, is joined by Mishal Patel and John Dunn, Sable International’s directors of citizenship and immigration.
In this mini episode they discuss British citizenship by double descent and break down an example of an anomaly of the law that could result in many Canadians gaining British citizenship through a grandparent on their mother’s side.
This is a case study example of having been born in Canada between 1948 and 1983 and claiming British citizenship through one's mother’s first husband (even if he is not the biological father).
Would it need to have been registered.
in light of new legislation, section 4L of the British Nationality Act, acquisition by registration: special circumstances. point a) historical legislative unfairness, would not the mother's children born before December 1948 be discriminated against based on the protected characteristic, age.
If i have a uk born great grand parent and my granfather got citizenship through his dad and my grand mother got citizenship through marriage (otherwise than by decent) and she has a nationality status letter.
I understand that my father may be eligible for british nationality. Would that mean that i could be able to get an ancestral visa.?
How are they are combating gender discrimination when double descendent only apply to the paternal side. Sounds like that fits the definition of gender discrimination pretty well.
If my father was born in the Transvaal South Africa in 1909, his father was a British Citizen, his birth was registered in Campsie. Scotland in 1870.
My parents married 1942 in South Africa. I was born in 1958 and my brother in 1960. Would we both qualify for British citizenship by double decent????
