Hey man! Just wanted to say that I'm super greatful that you put your videos out there. I've bought an XJ750 and I've done the same rear wheel conversion using an angle grinder instead of a lathe. I love the wide rear wheel and new disk break set up. I've watched these videos through a number of times and I've learned lots!
I wouldn't worry about the offset of the real wheel, they are like that from factory as are the XVs and BMWs as well. Its a lot of work for very little gain.
did you say your xj came with an 18" rear rim, which xj do you have? my xj650g has a 16" rear wheel and with the stock 130/90 tire i only have about 3/16" on the left side between the tire and swing arm/drive shaft housing and about an inch on the right side, how can you have 1" on both sides with a 150 tire, something's funny.....
Yeah, I was surprised too. Remember the 150 won't fit without mods that I did. Remember too the reason is because the wheel offset is different on the bigger rim. Mine started as an 1981 XJ650 SECA. The XJ750P, 1984 SECA I had has an identical swing arm and rim size too,18 inch, I think the Maxim rims are smaller.
@@Mezzmoengineering yeah i didn't catch that it was a seca you were building from, the seca swing arm must be that much different from the maxim. i saw a video once that i haven't been able to find again that showed how to adapt a certain year virago swing arm and wheel onto the xj so you can get a 180 tire on, but he had to do some machining to move the wheel over also....
How hard would it be to convert a shaft drive to a chain drive? I've got an xj750 and I want to turn it into a custom bit by bit. One of the things I want to do is put a wider rear and front tire on it. But, that shaft drive is going to cause issues when I go to do that. Is there a website or something that might have the information I need to know to do the conversion?
Hi Mate, i think anything is possible but I didn't look into that. I made a wide rear fit and kept shaft drive. Check my earlier video showing the conversion to fit a 150 rear tyre.

I have a 83 seca turbo I'm rebuilding, I'll be looking to do this as well :)

I recently grabbed a 85 700x. What front end did you use? Will the forks bolt right up to stock triple tree?
HI mate, front end is from an XJ900. No, triple tree wont fit stock unit, you need matching tree

@@quadflopper1012 Not sure if the Maxim swing arm is different or not. I hadn't seen anyone fit the rim I have so I just messed about to make it work.
