Filming talking-head interviews in 2024 with no available lighting and this is the best video I've found on the subject so far after hours of searching.

Great video. Appreciated your thoughts about what adjustments you can do when the sun goes behind the clouds. Thank you!

What would you do if you were recording interviews in a school where overheads are a problem. I dont want to bring my apurture mark 2 lights because I'd have to lug them to different sections of the school. I have little mini apertures with color filters so I might use those, but it doesnt solve the problem of overhead fluorescent lights in the hallways and classrooms. B-roll in different rooms to supplement the interviews.

Maybe try and diffuse those lights?

@@judahhays189 I ended up lugging my aperture 120D mark 2's around to most places. Not sure how to diffuse overhead fluorescent lights when its coming from all the different overhead directions.

Thanks for another great video, keep pushing out content! I wanted to ask a question, so when starting out with film, what did you start out as? In terms of like a job and whatnot... I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do but don't know where to really start for film.

Thanks so much! I really worked my way up in the one man band world. So I did a lot of corporate talking heads, music videos, etc. I worked for myself and with primarily one other guy on his jobs he’d bring me along on. As I got more experienced, I did the Hollywood style thing for a while where I worked in camera department, starting as a camera PA, then ACing, then Cam Opping, and finally DPing. If you want to be in big budget studio work, you can kind of have to work your way up the ladder. If you’re doing your own thing, just try and work on as many sets as possible. Learn what you like, camera, lighting, sound, props, post, etc. and learn to specialize in that area. As you become more and more proficient, you’ll want a speciality to be in demand for.
