Also, I would love it if Seijuro finds Hiko and decides to become his successor instead. With his speed, he could take the sword art farther than Kenshin could.
The reason why hiko told Kenshin to complete his training is because for kenshin can become master mitsurugi he would have had to kill his master and therefore accept the duality of life. The nessesity of death to weild saving power wouldve melded with his understanding of life and he wouldnt have been a unstable manslayer he would have the peace and wisdom and acceptance death of master mitsurugi! "The message is absolutely about ENLIGHTENMENT OR PERFECT ILLUMINATION OF A MAN." By that you can enter the kingdom of heaven. Seeking the SELF that lies within."
I'm not a native speaker, but I've got it almost everything correctly, I guess. Hiko: How do you plan to defend those people with your limited knowlodge? Will you choose the less loathsome of the two evil factions in that filthy conflict and do it its bidding? I do not bestow master Hiten Mitsurugi (????) principles on you so you can become the pawn of the fairest man. You can change nothing. The troubles of the outsider world are perpetual. Kenshin: And by virtue of that I am supposed to turn my back and live in self-ordered ignorance? I can't ignore them. And neither us, Master. Hiko: When your training is complete you will be the strongest of swordman and your mind will be as strong as your sword. Kenshin: The peasants who are dying in the grip of the Bakufu alliance cannot wait that long, Master. Your words are nothing to them! Hiko: Go down there, brand yourself a murderer! Murdering is the only art a swordman can practice. No ornamental words can change that. You want to protect people with murder!? You'll slaughter legions so that a few may live. Many years, long before you were born, my sword was tearing (????) of the lives of men. Yes, all of those men were evil. But they were human beings first and foremost, Kenshin. The world you orderly desire to enter will not know what to do with you. It will decieve you into believing that you are saving lives even as you destroy them. You will accept its lies, all the while your hands will be stained with the worst of offences. Kenshin: Perhaps. Even so, my hands will bring relieve to people who've learned to live without hope. A human being who feeds on his brother is not a man anymore. He is a mad dog. And should be dealt the same fate. Master, listen! Hiko: It is foolish to listen to someone who will not listen to you. Do as you wish. Go to them. Kenshin: Thank you, Master. Hiko: I have fed my people to the wolves. His mind will soon be divided into warring clans and his pure heart will soon know suffering far beyond his worst nightmares.
I still think Kenshin has a fair point. Saying the conflict is perpetual is not a good excuse to do nothing. I like kenshin more than the battousai he still helps people while keeping his sword free from blood. Also even Hiko is not in agreement with himself or at least was not for a long time that is why he killed so many men. Kenshin being alive is the direct product of him slaying evil men, he is arguieng against the direct proof of his own work standing before him. He also ends with Kenshin being so pure he has to do this, not trying to stop him any longer. If Kenshin was truly in the wrong Hiko would have stopped him. He just wanted to make sure Kenshin would be fully aware of what he would get himself into. Eventually I think Kenshin is superior to the Battousai maintaining his integrity while risking his life for others. Also some people say Tomoe changed him into Kenshin that is not true even after her death he remained the battousai until his end goal was reached.
He did say that, after his training is done, he'd become the strongest samurai, which would allow him to fight without pledging allegience to either side. So hiko isn't actually a pacifist.
@@MazdaRX7007 no of course he is not, he killed hundreds of people, he is a mass murderer just like Kenshin. I see this entire conversation as a test to see if Kenshin understood the gravity of the situation.
So the question is really, what is the purpose of life, and the boundaries of such? If everything was left to nonconforming individualist criticism, nothing would get done. Hiko's words are wise, but they only make sense if one actually puts them into context. It's an individual question, not humanity as a whole.
@rurounisld i like those quotes too and i do agree with them not that i have anything against the soldiers just that they don't realize what exactly they are doing that they are just becoming pawns in a play that cost's them their lives
Nevertheless, the overthrowing of the Shogunate government was perfectly inevitable. No human institutions are immune to gradual degradation, the Meji did successfully lead Japan into the new pre-modern era, but yes you're right; unfortunately they were extremely nationalistic, and such sentiment was patronized by the Meji government and led to the complete and utter subjugation of other peoples through the implementation of death camps and torture camps. However, I cant help but be skeptical.
after World war I, since power was now being consolidated into partial military officers who continued to use the Emperor as a figurehead for the current political state of affairs. It was during that period of military oligarchy that the Japanese launched radically out of control orgies in kill raping and maiming civilian populations of foreign conquered territories during World War II. So, when exactly did the Meji government employ internment camps?

Man, Seijuro's actor is pretty great; but who the hell did they get to voice Kenshin? Sounds like some college freshman they roped in who wanted to earn a few extra bucks on the side.
This is not accurate. He said a sword is a weapon to kill people and you have the most powerful skill. Youll change history and be used by others. And he understood. There is no right or wrong here.
You said the Meji government utilized death camps and torture camps which would later be used by Nazi Germany. That statement would be a moot point, because the concept of resettling undesirables and quarantining them into a confined private area has been used since the pogroms in Russia. Also, if my knowledge is correct, the Japanese did not establish internment camps such as those you speak of, at least during the regin of the Meji government. Techinically, the Meji government ceased to exist
in all honesty, it's annoying how some people take Hiko's words seriously. Kenshin destroyed a regime what was no longer functional. the words of Hiko are simply meant to humanize the hatred of the percieved enemy. Nothing more. By enacting vengance on a killer, you must be aware that you will be unleashing your retribution by also taking a life, thus also making you killer. Kenshin was used, yes, but at least people were able to live better lives in a democratic Japan than a shogun dynasty.
Hiko's teaching is useful to avoid personal guilt and PTSD in soldier. Hiko teach kensin to be agent of his own, not for other people. Thus taking the responsibility for his actions. "but at least people were able to live better lives in a democratic Japan than a shogun dynasty" Even in democratic society, people use voting, which is the sound of majority. Things like this is what caused lack of personal responsibility, because it is the sound of the crowd & not the sound of your conscience. Nice try, SS

@@evgeniyushkov7103 That might actually be a blessing in disguise. Kenshin may have sabotaged himself as a kid, but he *did* get great power only to be used for a moment's notice.
Hence why hiko said your mind will match the strength of your sword
When Kenshin left his sword was strong but he mind couldn't match that strength until he learned the principle of loss and sacrifice behind Amakakeru Ryu no Hirumeki
The "lesser of two evil faction" as said by Hiko Seijuro was actually similar to the situation in Syria right now, on one side Assad the, the iron fist dictator on the other side, Jihadist
@rurounisld yeah that is true i have seen many of my friends already join the army because of paying for college or a job and yes i completely agree with you on the saving the world dream it was something i really wanted to do you know help the world and stuff but i didnt know how at all so i dont blame kenshin for doing all that cause i understand how he feels
"The message is absolutely about ENLIGHTENMENT OR PERFECT ILLUMINATION OF A MAN." By that you can enter the kingdom of heaven. Seeking the SELF that lies within."
really these r words of wisdom for me
You are correct.
Hiko.The Master...wow
The people that rush to join the army to "fight for the country" could benefit from hearing this conversations.
i like it
can anyone transcribe all of these to me completely?
And because of guys like u,we have wars. This cycle is never going to end until things keep being the same
@rinwhr
Yeah it's cause after the revolution and 10 years of wandering Kenshin realized that what his master said was true.
Fed my pupil to the Wolves.. of Mibu!
Mind is to strong obviously, practice tonight.
Hiko is chuck norris' shadow
Thank everyone ☠️
after World war I, since power was now being consolidated into partial military officers who continued to use the Emperor as a figurehead for the current political state of affairs. It was during that period of military oligarchy that the Japanese launched radically out of control orgies in kill raping and maiming civilian populations of foreign conquered territories during World War II. So, when exactly did the Meji government employ internment camps?
@key11207 yes good point the same thought was in my head but same i didnt know how.. i mean i had my school and some video games that consumed all my day.
i can see now school could be a way that some1 could keep u busy with problems thats shouldnt even exist and in the end i ended up buy forgeting half of what ive learned. there should be a change in schools...
This and fate stay unlimited blade works. archer vs emiya. Both philosophical and have truth to it. Emiya wanted to save people and future him archer saying it is pointless. You will just become a murder because you can't save everbody archer says
It's to late now.
@key11207 well as an American u know better that me what war in Vietnam did to ur soldiers.
Many songs like Metallica- one, alice in chains - rooster talk about ppl that lost their legs and their sight in the war and even ppl that got mad...
in the modern world unfortunately ppl that cant find a job will end up as mercenaries..
anyway Kenshin wanted to save the world as any teens dream but he got used. i remember he sufered with all those thoughts in his head.
Actually he said "brand yourself a murderer"
I am no pawn.
SAMURAI SAMURAI X

It's not a big deal me.talkiknf to my son, stick with me kid
So did Kenshin do any good by becoming a hitokiri and killing hundreds of people? he should had listened to his master.
in all honesty, it's annoying how some people take Hiko's words seriously.
I hate this dub, but I gotta give due credit to Seijuro Hiko's English VA for channeling Lawrence Fishburne as Morpheus. Seriously, was I the only one who thought that while listening to the dub? It's weirdly appropriate. Another thing I got to give credit to is that the dub actually makes Kenshin sound male. Other than that, stick to the subs.
listening to Hiko lecturing Kenshin made me realize that Hiko Seijuro is actually a liberal (though not a bleeding heart liberal seeing he KILLED lots of people) in today standard lol
God, this horrid English dub kills the entire mood of this scene.
it's actually decent
The script of the dub more than makes up for it
i like it
