He’s smart. The gods are kindest when we’re humble.
I’ve heard there is a Japanese saying “Always act as though you are hungry and humble so you are never made hungry and humbled”. Don’t know if that’s true but I heard it when I worked for Hitachi.

What is perfect about him is that he doesn't hide his imperfectness. He admits his faults and his arrogance is worn in such style that is classy. If any other person admitted that they care more about money, or they hate public emotion men don't weep, he even admitted that he doesn't care for his only daughter that is stone cold and so many other vices it should make you hate him but it is the eloquence and class in which he admits it that you got to admire.

My Father who was a Sargent Major. STRAIGHT was a very wonderful generous kind Gentleman. True in Nature and very real. Very disciplined. And loved people. At the end of the day we all have a story to tell. That's what makes the world go round. If we were all the same life would be boring. Love and hugs

As good as HOPKINS always is, in 'Remains Of The Day' he went to another level as an actor... (He played a part where he was supposedly unable to display any emotion whatever...) The tightness, the 'strait-jacket', the TRAGEDY of that portrayal made all the more touching because he somehow allowed the emotion to bleed through? (Stunning actor...) xx SF

Why do people keep saying he sold out. Why can’t he do plays and films. He needs to make a living like everybody else.

I think it was based on a kind of cultural snobbery that was very common amongst Shakespearean actors of that generation. They felt they were doing something "higher" than film making.

Hopkins was a disappointment in the same way Burton was to me with both having a booming and low key inflection to go along with incredible stage presence but after a few sharp early performances both got lazy and the zip in performances gone. Fine actors that I expected a lot more from but as the years passed were clearly diminishing returns. Burton had demons, Hopkins going through the motions.

what? His performance in Westworld is amazing, it elevates the entire show. Hannibal, The Remains of the Day, Elephant Man, Nixon, Hitchcock, all of his theatre work etc etc

A James Mason without the panache but it is my opinion only, I'm sure many would disagree with me as well. I think Nicol Williamson and Klaus Maria Branduer were superb actors but many would disagree with me as well given there careers never approached Hopkins..
