  • A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987.
This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on November 10, 1978, on the ABC.
This clip features an interview of British singer David Bowie conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum, on a tennis court at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney, Australia.
The interview begins with a discussion about Bowie's successful transition from music to movies, where Bowie brings up his latest movie, 'Just A Gigolo', where he worked with Marlene Dietrich and Kim Novak.
Bowie also discusses the various characters he has assumed over his music career, such as The Thin White Duke and Ziggy Stardust. The discussion then turns to Bowie's song 'Heroes', which Bowie describes as being about the ordinary man who has his moment in the sun. He also discusses his hit songs 'Golden Years' and 'Fame'.
Vaxfacts: If you look closely at Bowie's eyes, you will note a difference between the two. His eyes are not a different colour, rather, his left pupil is permanently dilated, a result of a fight he had with a friend in 1962, who punched him in that eye. As a result of that injury, along with his dilated pupil, he also has impaired depth perception.

Gorgeous soul. I remembered seeing this interview when it was broadcasted in Australia when Bowie first toured here.

Never knew Bowie covered The Doors. Nice. The backing singer has been huffing helium though, lol.

Listening to him being obtuse about the subject matter of his songs is very informative in itself
