This was so awesome brother, thank you. When I am in my office, these "trips" to the woods are one of my favorite ways to keep myself grounded. Superb material sir. Bravo.
If I'm on a slope facing down I always like to be facing north, east or northeast and occasionally north west. If I'm at the bottom looking up I'm facing south. That's where I seem to find the most. As we all know sun rises in the east and set in the west so the ginseng doesn't get the blunt of the sun in most cases. Also I'd like to add that small legal 3 prong plants doesn't always have small roots. And in some cases large plants have avg size roots. I've noticed that it mostly depends on the ground they are in. I've found small 3 prongs in poor soil that weren't as big around as a dime but had a three inch neck. I check all legal plants to be sure of size and if they aren't old enough I cover back up. I like to find large plants also it excites me and gives me the push of adrenaline to keep huntimg. But large plants doesn't mean large roots and small doesn't mean small. Ginseng is a peculiar plant! You have alot of great tips but if you check I think you'll find you're missing out on alot of good ginseng. This is just my experience, everone has their own way and has something different they could share or learn, in no way am I degrading your video. HAVE A BLESSED DAY,
Nice video. Thanks for respecting people's property and the preservation of the wild plants. Just curious how much is that plate of ginseng worth. I saw ur mushroom video and they looked yummy. I love mushrooms but I'm to afraid to hunt for them. Your knowledge in wild edibles is a wonderful talent.
Kevin, can you explain what the "hook" is for on the tool you make? Is it just for hanging off of a belt or something? Also, when you plant the berries are you planting the pod and all, or are you breaking them open and planting the two seeds into the ground.
Deer do eat the tops .grouse and other birds eat the seed. If turkey find acorns in the woods they will scratch around and knock all the tops off.most of it will be yellow so they actually save a lot of it from being dug.
i saw a different video man picked a small one.. it had those dots that showed it was like 10 years old.. and why dont you just buy a lot of seeds and plant them in easy to get to spots so in future you can have a ton of it where you want?
Man that was a good video brother. Great job!!! I hope and pray I'm gonna have a good day of digging tomorrow like what you just did. LORD willing I will. Yall stay safe. Thanks again Kev. BTW what is the link to buy one of those diggers that you sell? I'd like to have me one.
Where do you find seeds to plant? I get so frustrated with people poaching the mushrooms and the ginseng on our property. I wasn’t able to find any ginseng at all last year due to all the people stealing it. We had some very old plants here when we bought our place.
Great Video Kev,keep them coming,I'll spend about 3 days a fall up here in NY looking for ginseng and get about 1 plateful, your right, you won't get rich but you'll have fun,Most days I get more oyster mushrooms than ginseng.Buschy
Hi Kevin. I am thrilled to see how to find ginseng in the wild. Over 60 years ago, when I was young my dad bought ginseng, snake root, golden seal and may Apple roots. Other than seeing them at home in south western PA, I never saw them in the wild. Are you in the Allegheny mountains and if so what state? I now live in OK and I am not aware of any root digging here.
Oh damn you hunt morel mushrooms too? We do too that's cool. I like the white and yellow morels the most. We find a ton of those things every year (well every season.
I. Agree with you on. Not. Getting. Rich. I. Have. Had. People. To. Tell me. They. Dig. A. Pound. To. 3. Pounds of saving. Every time. They. Go. Out. I. Know. Better.
I quess the deer where I live are different than the deer in you area . Because you will ( NOT!!) find ANY ginseng around a deer path here because whitetail deer absolutely love ginseng.
Make sure you whisper in these woods cause you dont want to scare off the ginseng. Lookee there I thought I seen soom berries, I did, I did see some berries.
Do you have a video that shows how far down they actually are? One where you show how to dig them? What's Bear scat?? Edit:You DID show us later in the video. Ty.
