I love playing with makeup and fashion, but at the same time, I’m quite a minimalistic person. I don't like the idea of being fixated on the body too much. I have an alternative and unconventional viewpoint on beauty, the body types and face shapes. I love helping other women find their "it" and finally discover their beauty and boost their confidence.

    I really don't agree David Kibbe about pure types. I see many Naturals and Gamines. (not classics they are very rare) Jennifer Aniston is a obvious Natural but now she has to be SN.That doesn't makes sense. A SN and N can look very different and ignoring pure types makes no sense. 13 type is not even enough for all women and it is 10 now.

      @@raygin6581 olive skin is closer to neutral whether warm/cool because of the green tone. Merriman Style is great on olive skin tone (and colour in general) in my opinion. She just uploaded something about red/green balance which was really interesting, I hadn't heard about that before.

    • @jwashingmachine8307
      @jwashingmachine8307 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I second this!! I can’t find any logic to the colours that suit my olive skin , and it would be so helpful to hear Aly’s analysis of it as she makes really clear observations. Beauty youtubers seem to disagree about the colour theory - some saying it’s inherently cool, inherently neutral, or a mixture of undertones, so that adds to the confusion. Olives also tend to be ignored by many Makeup brands (foundations are pink, yellow, orange, etc.), which is weird considering what a large fraction of women are olive. So a video delving into the colour theory of green skin would be so appreciated ❤️
      (btw the best sources for olive skin info I’ve found is Merriam Style on TH-cam and the ‘OliveMUA’ subreddit.)

    • @jwashingmachine8307
      @jwashingmachine8307 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Another question that comes up is about the clear vs. muted quality of olive skin. I see a lot of women with a grey or muted green skin tone, but I feel that I am myself almost a fluorescent green and muted colours don’t suit me. How does this affect colour recommendations? So that is also an interesting topic to explore....

    • @Analysis_Paralysis
      @Analysis_Paralysis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Isn't "olive" just another way of saying someone has less "pink" in her skin undertone? I mean, wouldn't yellow aka warm be the right color for olive skin undertone? I don't know, so please don't judge me! 😊 I've never understood what "olive" really means and why it's warm for some people and cool for others... And if it's cool, what's the difference between cool and cool olive?

      yessssssssssssss

    • @MartinaGiovese
      @MartinaGiovese 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Yes, especially when FN are curvier and SD are thinner. They are so easily mistaken for one another. I see everyone with wide shoulders being put into FN but there are a lot of SD women with wider shoulders too. I feel like in some people they can be almost identical in their overall shape, but the bones are either more narrow or wide. Like Sofia Vergara looks almost FN in terms of overall shape but her bones are definitely more angular and narrow.

    • @blueice011
      @blueice011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@MartinaGiovese Sorry, FN's and SD's can't be more different. Their only similarity is height that needs to be 'accommodated', according to Kibbe. SDs are flesh/height dominant, FNs are frame/height dominant. SDs are very yin, often very lush in flesh, with distinguished definition of waist, bust and hips (often hourglasses), FN's have stronger, wider, blunter bones (frame is first thing you see, not curves) and yang flesh, which tends to be muscular, athletic or toned. They appear strong, it's body type that mostly resembles swimmer body image. Often inverted triangle, top heavy, but not with large, soft curves, rather athletic, with straight outer line (straight waist/hips) and broader shoulders and chest. What makes FN appear large is frame (blunt, wider, strong bones) and toned flesh, what makes SD appear large is lush flesh over not so prominent bone frame. When you see SD - you see curves (bust, waist, hips) first and height. When you see FN you see height and frame first.
      FNs are mostly rectangular or inverted triangles, SDs are moderate to very pronounced hourglasses in most cases.
      It's Raquel Welch or Anita Ekberg vs Brooke Shields or Cameron Diaz.
      Can't be easier to make a difference. What makes a confusion is the fact that tall women are squeezed into 3 types only, and many young girls can't be placed into any of them - they are tall, soft and lean, but not dry and boyish (D), nor strong/athletic/straight (FN) and their curves are not lush or formed enough to fit into vintage SD image (very mature curves). So, model like soft, tall gals, like supermodels of 90's are all labeled as FNs which is not true, IMHO. They are all very well defined, soft, lean but not dry and not athletic or strong appearing. Some are FN's some are not. Just broad shoulders doesn't make anyone N. It takes more than just shoulders. My mom (165cm tall R) has wider bone frame than me (shoulders, rib cage/back, knees, wrists, ankles) and I am 13 cm taller (178cm) SD.
      All these ladies are FN. It's not that difficult to spot the pattern in body outer line.

      @Moonshine His typing is becoming rather incoherent, since he abandoned his basic principles that his system was based on over time. He now insists on something illusive such as 'Hollywood archetype' as an inspiration not individual features, which mystifies the system and makes it impossible to get practical value from (self typing) without Kibbe himself and his opinion. If Lynda Carter is FN like SJP, and J. Smith is SD, like 164 cm tall Barbra Streisand or 5'10'' Tyra Banks, the system makes no sense. At all. I also dress my 'essence', or my personality and personal sense of style - not my body type, but I've learnt how to accommodate my clothes to suit my body lines in order to make them work and look well. Most people come here in order to get practical value out of this system - to learn how to dress better for their body type or, if they know what they like and what looks good on them, how to adjust, alter ideal lines for their body type to match their personality and vibe, energy, essence, who they are as a person, since they don't have, let's say a personality to match 'bombshell' body image and have more of a classic or natural essence to them. That's where this system offers no value at all. It's mystified in order to make it look more deep than it is. Nobody, not even Kibbe can tell you who you are after few minutes spent in your company. Let alone over virtual contact. Or just a photo. He types celebs wrongly, moves them from one type to another NOT based on their bodies. People here are not dealing with archetypes and essences, they want to know how to dress their physical bodies to look good or how to make those clothes recommended for their physical bodies work for their not matching personalities as well.

But you are so right in one trick: just try the lines of both bodytypes and see hoy do you feel more like yourself.

    I relate to the soft natural vibe and soft blunt bones /flesh the most but I have some gamine and some soft classic, or something! I really think its why I had a hard time finding my "type"...just an odd bod! But I have a much better understanding after watching Aly's videos many times over, and feel like I understand my body now! I use soft natural as a base and use certain 'rules' and getting dressed in a way that suits me is easier now. Thanks aly:)

    To the ppl who dont know if they Natural or any type of Classic you could try very sleak regal hairstyles ( like Dita Von Teese or Grace Kelly) ( very old Hollywood glamour) and see how u look and then try very wild / overly blown hair and see how it fits you .
    To me it's really THE hairstyles ( very different for N and SC/C/DC ) that can show you how regal a Classic looks in sleak very tidy hair and how sloppy they look with Natural wild hair and the opposite: how "I tried too much" Naturals look with very glamorous hair 🤷‍♀️

I've always been confused how some people can look so put together in relaxed clothing when I will look like I just threw something on from my wardrobe in a hurry. Soft makeup will also get "lost" in my features, I usually either wear no makeup or a very dramatic look. I think I lean towards dramatic classic.

    As a soft natural I have a hard time on trying to listen to kibbe when he says to bet on unconstructed pieces and all that draping... Due to my personality (more serious) and my job (formal), I have (and like) to use more tailored clothes, (and of course) nothing oversized and nothing too short that would make me look boxy...
    I really like to study kibbe theory, but sometimes I think that base my choices only on the fact that I have a retangular body is way more practical and realistic.

    I THINK I’M A NATURAL, I’m shocked 😅
    This is where I started out 3 years ago, at pure N, then FN.
    After that I got confused and headed over to SC, then C, and DC, even FG because DC looked way to strict on me.
    But I think I’m a pure N … not tall enough vertical for FN, definitely not soft enough for SN. I look like like Ali McGraw (N). I tried the clothes of a textbook FN once, a colleague of mine, and I looked like I played dressup. Totally disappeared in her clothes. 😅
    Being a natural would explain why I feel so ”frame heavy” or ”muscular”. I look quite ”fit” and/or strong but only work out twice a week. I naturally dress kind of sporty, because it works. My face looks kind of ”open” and friendly, like naturals are described… narrow medium eyes, quite thin lips, blunt nose… And I always feel like I’m sort of… big?? Even though I’m skinny? That’s why FG didn’t make sense. I don’t look particularly cute in the kibbe sense. I look more… like by body is functional, strong and like it works! One guy I dated even liked my body BECAUSE it looked ”functional” like he said. Such a weird compliment, but it’s true! Another guy thought I looked like a socker player, like I’m active and not afraid to work out. Also my dance teacher said I had a good dancer’s body.
    When I think about it, both of my parents are also probably pure N. Dad looks rough and like he would do well in a survival game, not particularly tall, more stubby. And my guy friend once asked him how to get buff like him, and my dad was like ”I don’t work out at all” which is 100% true 😂 My mum looks like me, a little smaller. She strongly believes that you’e attracted to people with similar looks (scientificallt proven as well) and I asked what she thinks is similar between my dad and her. She answered ”we both have bold facial structures” which I think is a good way of describing pure N.
    Wow! I’ve always envied the naturals but now that I think I am one myself….. mind BLOWN. 🤯 all of a sudden I feel more confident. Like, if I ”belong” to a group where it’s ”okay” and even expected to have wide shoulders and look strong overall… that’s what I need. I have so much trouble accepting my body, this is amazing 🥹

    I’m definitely soft natural. I previously was confused between classic, soft dramatic, and sometimes romantic. My features seemed pretty evenly spaced to me, and people usually call my look elegant or something similar which reminded me of classic, whereas I’ve seen adjectives for natural like “friendly” and “handsome”.. I thought that can’t be me since I’m not manly or approachable looking. I sometimes thought romantic because I have large eyes and softness in my flesh. But then I realized that I don’t have all of those curves or lush lips.. After that, I thought that because of my thin, straight lips that I must be soft dramatic. It made sense because my bones in my body and face are straight, with large eyes (feminine) & small lips (masculine). But now I can see that I’m soft natural. My bones are wider and look straight, even in my face, but my flesh is romantic with large eyes. I can see that my lips aren’t enough to throw off my soft flesh. So glad I found my type!! Too bad I’m too poor to buy clothes now though lol 😂

      Try Googling Courteney Cox and Lady Gaga in their bathing suits and put their pictures side by side, you will see the clear difference. Flamboyant gamine's look short Square-ish more blunt in Bones they tend to look more muscular. Dramatic classics have more moderate sized bones they look taller more evened out, meaning their arms and legs are not too long but they're just a little bit sharper than a regular classic. Hope this helps.

    • @elektrakomplexet
      @elektrakomplexet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s very difficult to determine if it’s balance or juxtaposition in pictures. Flamboyant gamines tends to look like small dramatics, can have longer vertical lines or longer limbs in proportion to body. There is always a contrast in their silhouette that is evident. A flamboyant gamine looks more compact, more yang. They have “boxy” features and they’re petite in bone structure. Look into Liza Minnelli and Tina Turner, both verified flamboyant gamines. Compare them to verified dramatic classics and you can see a difference almost immediately.

If I look at Liza Minelli and Tina Turner I definitely do not have that boxy appearance, I have long limbs compared to my body, quite broad shoulders, almost no boobs which I think are the yang traits in me. But if you look at me it is immediately clear that I am small, short with delicate bone structure

      @@Mary-ui4qq thanks this helps indeed! I think it is the the square-ish trait that I really do not fulfill. I am like a tiny dramatic, with more flash and muscle

      @@sil.d5 Dramatic classics are NOT smaller dramatics. Basically, flamboyant gamines are yang but yin in literal size. They have dramatic frame but lack the literal vertical. Dramatic classics are wider in frame than dramatics. They’re moderate with yang undercurrent. The yang undercurrent is very small because of the moderation in proportions and facial features. Nothing really stands out. In gamines, juxtaposition stands out clearly. Your description of yourself sounds more flamboyant gamine to me than dramatic classic. If you’re short and have longer limbs that is juxtaposition. Also, delicate in Kibbe means small or short. It has nothing to do with actual definition. How tall are you?

      Soft natural is more average height, slightly broader, more "solid" looking, but still with soft flesh. I am not an expert on gamine types, but I believe soft gamine is more delicate and petite looking than a soft natural.

      I think it’s because it’s less common. Most people aren’t an even split they are either more yin or yang. Most Gs are now FGs, most Cs are now SCs etc. However I feel like pure Naturals should still exist as they don’t really fit into SN or FN.

    What about small hips? I'm short with larger top, no waist and no hips. I don't look good in anything that accentuates the waist. It makes me look wider.

    IDK if I’m a natural or a flamboyant natural. I store fat like naturals (in the tummy area). I’m overweight and very flat, no bust, no hips, no derrière LOL. But my bones are huge (really, I can see it in my wrists, shoulders, etc. I look wider than many taller and more overweight men), I’m 5’7. My results for the test are 1-B, 2-E, 3-B, 4-E, 5-B, 6-B, 7-B, 8-A, 9-B, 10-B, 11-B, 12-A, 13-B, 14-C, 15-B. So IDK, I’d appreciate your opinion. ☺️

      As David Kibbe has now ruled out pure naturals, gamines and classics, it’s probably safest to look to recommendations for flamboyant naturals, though you can tweak any elements that seem a bit off for you.

    Something people don’t talk about much is that SN’s are generally slightly broad, wide or square with a yin undercurrent. I think people assume SN’s are very broad and wide and that keeps people from wanting to fully consider being a SN.
