Filming on the original version of Cursed was around 90% complete, producer when Bob Weinstein suspended filming as he was unhappy with footage he was seeing. After much deliberation, Weinstein ordered sweeping reshoots, which dropped Skeet Ulrich's co-lead, ( Which I didnt even know he was in the original cut) made Christina Ricci and Jesse Eisenberg's characters siblings and dropped Cursed cast members like Mandy Moore, Robert Forster and Omar Epps. This version added a new romantic interest in Joshua Jackson's character and tested well, but Weinstein - still unhappy - ordered more reshoots. 3 total I believe making it swell to $75 million, and didnt make it back at all. People hope one day we get the Wes Craven Cut of the movie with Skeet in it etc but Weinstein cut filming 6 days before wrapping so no ending was shot.
@@Riky_Jones Cool. I actually liked it fairly well too and I found it refreshing for Craven to do something that wasn't straight horror but almost more action thriller.
I think Cursed shows how competent Craven and Williamson are. Even when studiof*cked their movie so hard, the end product is still quite decent and for sure very entertaining. It's a pity that it kind of ruined Craven's carrer for years to come. At least he managed to produce successful remakes of his first two movies. This is what he said about Cursed: "The contract called for us to make an R-rated film. We did. It was a very difficult process. Then it was basically taken away from us and cut to PG-13 and ruined. It was two years of very difficult work and almost 100 days of shooting of various versions. Then at the very end, it was chopped up and the studio thought they could make more with a PG-13 movie, and trashed it ... I thought it was completely disrespectful, and it hurt them too, and it was like they shot themselves in the foot with a shotgun." and "the Cursed experience was so screwed up. I mean, that went on for two-and-a-half years of my life for a film that wasn't anything close to what it should have been. And another film that I was about to shoot having the plug pulled - Pulse - so it was like, I did learn from the Cursed experience not to do something for money. They said, 'We know you want to do another film, we'll pay you double.' And we were 10 days from shooting, and I said fine. But I ended up working two-and-a-half years for double my fee, but I could have done two-and-a-half movies, and done movies that were out there making money. In general, I think it's not worth it and part of the reason my phone hasn't rung is that that story is pretty well known." I would love to see the original movie, but from what I know it was never finished. At least it's what Patrick Lussier (Craven's editor) said in the interview he did with another TH-cam reviewer Pizowell (th-cam.com/video/gum1tB2D4Eo/w-d-xo.html). The original also had Rick Baker's practical effects (which they switched to that aweful CGI, ridicolous, you can hear Baker's talking about it here th-cam.com/video/PnscsYOCboQ/w-d-xo.html). Besides that it had so much more actors that were completely removed after the reshoots (Skeet Ulrich, Omar Epps, Heather Langenkamp, Scott Foley, Robert Forster, Corey Feldman.). There are even some promotional clips on TH-cam with Skeet Ulrich, it's unbelievable what studio has done to this movie :D
I remember my initial feelings seeing this movie was Wes Craven was back for me. I enjoyed this but didn't bother to buy a copy for my own collection. It is also one of those movies that other movies have the same title and when I do catch it come up on listings it has the description of the 2005 movie but turns out to be another flick. I've tried to see it again but after almost 20 years since seeing it don't feel commenting more would add anything. Satellite and cable guides get your shit together. 'Running Scared' is another I have problems I want the 2000's Paul Walker movie not any other 70's or 80's movies with same title that get shown with the channel info saying the 2000's one.
I think this film is decent in the R rated cut if you are a fan of Kevin Williamson type flicks. Still not good but decent I laugh at some of the Werewolf comedy when it gives them the finger and talks at points LMAO. The ending is way to much a redo of Scream and the CGI is dated.
Bad Moon has such a badass werewolf!! The dog turning at the end gave me nightmares as a kid.

Yeah, this movie definitely has a title that has been used a lot

Sorry Jason but Jesse Eisenburgh is literally the upgraded Michael Cera. See Vivarium and the social network. Michael Cera could never….
Love Vivarium
