Gold and Silver Fume tube prep with Dobbie Wan

Hey fam, my name is Alex Dobbie, I go by Dobbie Wan Glass. I make functional glass art in Montana.
Here's a real-time video of me making a section of gold and silver fume prep, using clothespins to keep track of which side I am fuming with gold, and which with silver.
There are several videos demonstrating fuming technique by more experienced artists available on TH-cam, and several very affordable Webinars available from Glasscraft. However, I thought I would share my technique because it may help, as watching multiple artists do the same thing has helped me.

Dude, I enjoy watching your process. It's such a pleasure because you step at the beat of your own drum. With your bench setup and the tools you have designed. I see a lot of different elements that you have combined into one apparatus, and I'll be damned if it doesn't work seamlessly. I also create a lot of my own tools and aids that seem to be "too high priced" from the suppliers. I've saved a small fortune just by using a bit of creativity. It has been fun to watch your process grow, and the work you produce shows it. Keep beating that drum... it is serving you well.

Late af answer but I believe you are correct. Pretty smart too- wooden clothes pins won’t cause stress at all on the glass.

About how much wt. of gold went into those pieces?

very small amount. I probably have a little piece smaller than a grain of rice, for silver about the same.
