That’s why he thinks that when he devour a girl, he thinks he’s saving her from pain, but he really doesn’t fell compassion for the girls she killed or “saved”,
When he killed shinobu, he thought that he was saving her but he ended up falling in love, a felling that he never thought it existed that’s why he said “do this felling really exist” so he might think that he saved shinobu, but shinobu ended up saving him from his torture whit out feelings,

In the canon of kny, I'm not sure, in my AU, no, Muzan didn't erased akaza's memories, in my AU, Muzan's blood has a side effect and that could erase a bit of a memory and this is not something that he couldn't control, since Akaza didn't and wouldn't kill and eat a woman, it struggles Muzan to make him the Uppermoon 3 because he needs extra blood to have enough strength to be an Uppermoon and the extra blood made Akaza looses his past memory.
