  • Adirondack Express II is the fastest LPA detachable chairlift in the world. This video shows it running at the full design speed of 1100 feet per minute. With a length of 7079 feet, the trip up to The Saddle takes only 6 minutes and 30 seconds at this speed.

    It is incredible how it's running like 1100 FPM like the old 90's Detachable lifts, but yet again more and newer detachable lifts from Leitner Poma are getting slower and annoying to ride as lap lifts...
    There isn't a newer solution to how we can increase the length of the new lift terminals.

      Most of the 90's detachables don't actually run at 1100 fpm, even though they are designed for it.

      In Europe it's a normal thing. It can drive up to 6,5 m/s and it drives 3,8 m/s. When you have luck, they drive 6,5 m/s when there's a wait time of 15 minutes, minimum...

      I can't remember, but I don't think it was anyone who wouldn't normally be there. For whatever reason, it has been painfully slow the last 3 seasons.

    Well now this once great lift has been slowed down. A lot. It was only running at 800 feet per minute last weekend, which is about the speed the old VonRoll triple ran at. It's like it's 1984 all over again.

      Ugh... that's annoying. The world needs more fast detachables. I wish Sugarbush ran their Doppelmayr detachables faster.

      @MichaelN12 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I really don’t get the point in running detachables slower unless there is a shortage in money or wind exposure. Sometimes, I just wanna go into the lift house and turn the speed up all the way.

      @@MichaelN12 A lot of the time it is to reduce wear, which I understand on older lifts, but not brand new lifts like this.

      @@MichaelN12 Running the lift slower means they will detach/ attach less, saving wear and tear on the grips, which aren't cheap to maintain.

      A higher speed would produce more grip cycles, but this lift was once the fastest ride on the mountain, but is now unbearably slow. They used to run it at 1000-1100 when it was busy and 900-1000 when it was not. After my initial comment months ago, it has remained at the same speed (only 800 feet per minute) the rest of the season.

    This is an awesome lift, but I despise it because it replaced that rare VonRoll HSS, which I rode many times when I was young.

      Don't hate on an 1100 feet per minute lift that is proven to run full speed sometimes.
      The high speed triple was a classic for sure, but there were serious concerns about the reliability and availability of parts, so it's time was up.

      I'm also not a fan of slow detachables. Riding one is like being stuck behind a slow driver doing 10-15 under the speed limit in a no-passing zone. Some of the worst offenders I've found are the gondola at Gore, both detachables at Whiteface and Mountain Creek, and all the detachable chairlifts at Killington.

    if the Hudson project really happened, then it could be the first LPA 4-OC in the east coast. However, there are a few LPA 6-oc in the east coast of Canada. but the project got canceled. (and not rescheduled?)

    Apparently there used to be a lift called Gore-E-gully until 2008 servicing beginner trails, Likley removed to make way for the new expansion. What’s the history on that chair?

    • @collinparsons3363
      @collinparsons3363  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found it on the Skilifts.org lift construction survey for 1966. It shows it as a Hopkins, which is the same as the Sandy Double at Saddleback. But they also installed a Riblet that year (High Peaks) so it could've also been a Riblet. I don't know what happened to it but they never sold chairs off so it was either scrapped or is still in the boneyard somewhere on or near the mountain.

      @@collinparsons3363 it was a hopkins, the chairs are (or were) still in E lot as of 2020. It went up the north side of the Gully trail, hence why gully is so much wider than it needs to be, and theres snowmaking on the far side. It was removed in 2008 because it was rarely used, old, and in the way of cedars traverse to the then new burnt ridge section.

      This lift no longer runs this speed. Only 800 feet per minute to save money. I can make it to both mountains in a day trip. I like Whiteface better, but will go to Gore when Whiteface has limited terrain open or is likely to have wind problems with their lifts. This January, Whiteface had hardly anything decent open while Gore was in great shape, so I only skied Gore when visiting ORDA mountains. Now, Whiteface has caught up and I'm going mostly there.
