“Believe Not Thine Eyes.” Trompe l’oel in Art.

This video film accompanying the exhibition “Believe Not Thine Eyes.Trompe l’oel in Art” is devoted to the art of trompe l’oeil that originated in ancient times. Trompe l’oeil creations take diverse forms. Among them one can find paintings and works of graphic art (‘trompe-l’œil’ means a trick of vision) producing the illusion of being three-dimensional; trompe l’oeil objects; as well as objects that appear to be made from other materials. This video film shows a wide variety of works from different epochs and cultures capable of playing a trick on visual perception.
