Awww...you missed the main thrust of this movie in this retelling. He grew to love those people of S. Korea. He let them all know what they should do. He had been the "dummy," observing their lives, and since he had no directives from N. Korea, he had plenty of time to think about their situations. He spent his day after "cleaning up" to tell all of them the steps to take to solve their individual problems. And the woman he lived with, that had become a surrogate mother to him, found a message from him that indicated he was still alive. Why else do you think this was titled "Secretly, Greatly?" He loved them secretly...and greatly. Superior movie, and Kim Soo Hyun did an outstanding job with it, and received awards from the 50th Baeksung Arts Awards, highly touted in S. Korea, for Best New Actor and Most Popular Actor. Very much a recommended watch.
I'll never forget how my friend and I were duped into thinking this was a comedy by the movie tags. We went in unprepared for the second half of the movie. Too many onions were being cut that night
That’s some of the best ways to start watching a movie lol. Same thing happened to me when I was a kid and the other kids wanted to watch a horror movie but it’s tags should have been thriller and psychological because it didn’t really feel horror-like strangely I remember that movie more than others just because we went into it thinking it’s one thing and coming out another.
This is what happens in reality with nearly every agents . anyone wants to become agent for their country should consider this . The people who got out safely and with good metal conditions is rare .
I noticed that when a korean movie follows an assassin or a vilan protagonist, they tend to kill them off at the end. I guess, they don't want to glorify a killer, even tho they could have changed through out the film. What they have done cannot be changed or forgiven, but they at least give them a nice redemption arc.
Watched this movie years ago, still one of my top 10 and I would recommend this to everyone I can. This movie will have you laughing your ass off to just straight up bawling. Such an amazing movie.
At least, the three agents, who abandoned their duty, all died... as brave heroes, despite the harshness that they were all forced to do, especially against their wills.

I was in Korea when this movie came out, I went to see it in theaters, but because I didn't speak Korean I merely guessed what was being said. It was still very entertaining though.

Crash landing on you did not mentioned anything about the guy. The only information that was given to us viewers is that he is a NK Spy who settled in and got used to South's lifestyle. And I don't know if it is before or after, but according to his hairstyle, outfit and mannerisms, it is before his death. Though I think that the scene is just an easter egg.
