- Directed and edited by Prince R. Makaya this is the official Daima video. Instead of the typical landscapes, scenery, wildlife, etc Eric decided to go with a much simpler concept for this video - highlight the future of Kenya - the children. Eric chose to work with Shangilia kids to make this video soon after the post-election violence of 2007. The voices of the kids are mixed in with Eric's original track. This patriotic song was used extensively to bring back sanity to a beautiful land that was rapidly consuming itself after the 2007elections. The video is on Eric's music video DVD called "Daima: The Music Videos" that has been on sale for some time now. The DVD also includes some of Eric's most notable songs such as "Nchi ya Kitu Kidogo", "Dunia ina Mambo", "Ukweli", "Sawa Sawa" amongst others. On the DVD are a number of bonus videos so don't just download - get an authentic copy.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Umoja ni fahari yetu
Undugu ndio nguvu
Chuki na ukabila
Hatutaki hata kamwe
Lazima tuungane, tuijenge nchi yetu
Pasiwe hata mmoja
Anaetenganisha
Chorus
Naishi, Natumaini,
Najitolea daima Kenya,
Hakika ya bendera
Ni uthabiti wangu
Nyeusi ya wananchi na nyekundu ni ya damu
Kijani ni ya ardhi, nyeupe ya amani
Daima mimi mkenya
Mwananchi mzalendo
Verse 2
Kwa uchungu na mateso
Kwa vilio na uzuni
Tulinyakuliwa Uhuru
na mashujaa wa zamani
Hawakushtushwa na risasi
au kufungwa gerezani
Nia yao ukombizi kuvunja pingu za ukoloni
Repeat Chorus
Verse 3
Wajibu wetu
Ni Kuishi kwa upendo
Kutoka ziwa Mpaka pwani
Kaskazini na kusini
Repeat Chorus
Translation
Unity is our pride, brotherhood our strength,
Hate and tribalism, we do not want at all,
We have to unite, to build our country,
Let there be no-one, who will pull us apart.
(chorus)
I live, I hope, I sacrifice forever for Kenya,
Surely as the flag is my fortress,
Black is for the people, red is for the blood,
Green is for the land, white is for the peace,
Forever i am Kenyan, a patriotic citizen.
In pain and suffering, in cries and agony,
Our freedom was grabbed for us by the heroes of old,
They were not deterred by the bullets, or even the the imprisonments,
Their aim was redemption, breaking the colonial shackles.
(...chorus)
Now our obligation and responsibility, is to live in love,
From the lake to the sea, from the North to the South.
