  • Want to learn Cantonese? Try using YouGlish to find a Cantonese vlog or TH-cam video with Cantonese Subtitles to help learn Cantonese as a beginner fast! Great alternative to Cantonese movies and Hong Kong TV Shows that use standard written Chinese subtitles instead of Cantonese subtitles.
Videos with Cantonese subtitles are hard to come by for those of us that want to learn Cantonese. Most Cantonese movies, Cantonese TV Shows, and TH-cam channels with Cantonese vlogs have subtitles that are written in standard Chinese language. This way, the Chinese characters that you are seeing may not even be the word that is actually used in the video. Ideally we would be able to do our reading with Cantonese writing. So how do we find videos that make videos with spoken Cantonese language subtitles?
In this video, I share a step-by-step guide on how to use YouGlish to find Cantonese videos with Cantonese subtitles. This little trick has helped me find more Cantonese content to study Cantonese and learn faster. The Cantonese subs especially my familiarity with Chinese characters. YouGlish is a great tool to help you find new Cantonese videos with subtitled Cantonese. Hopefully you will now be able to find new Cantonese TH-camrs with videos subbed in Canto.

真係好有用! 多謝! Reading what is spoken in the videos is so necessary to learn, and it was so difficult to find that with Cantonese. Thank you so much! And it will also be fun to make a list of Cantonese-only key words to do the searches! 😀

The convention is both a blessing and a curse for someone already fluent in Mandarin and written Chinese. I can understand Cantonese shows just by reading the subtitles, but unfortunately it's going to hamper my ability to match the spoken Cantonese to a concrete written form. Having true Cantonese subtitles will definitely be great for actually forcing oneself to learn Cantonese!

YouGlish doesn't work. I tried it with a couple of simple words, and I got back Mandarin
