Man, the cognitive dissonance when you pulled out that Z Flip after the classic intro 😂 Great to see that you’re still making content. Really nailing the old school TH-cam vibes even still!
The main problem with these phones is they have no apps. Most bootleg/generic phones of ye olden days used MediaTek SoCs, which had effectively perfect J2ME implementations (remember J2ME?). After MTK pivoted to making Android SoCs, flip phone makers were effectively stuck with SoCs from another company called Spreadtrum. The problem with Spreadtrum SoCs is they don’t have much good software for them, much less a proper J2ME implementation because they came along so late in the game that all of the software developers were basically gone because they had developed everything they needed to (albeit only for MTK).
In Australia we call a gas station a “Servo” which fits these phones perfectly considering they look like something you can get for cheap from a gas station 😂
I've always been amused by these kinds of cheap Chinese phones given how far they will go with the designs of each of them & trying to make each other stand out, but all of them being subpar phones at the end of the day. It's also pretty wild to be living in a world where flip phones are not only something people are catering toward (Not the new all-screen flip phones Samsung & Motorola are doing), but are also now getting a Chinese bootleg market. While the bootleg phone market isn't exactly there yet, at least it's a leap forward from the cheap soundpad phone toys from the 2000s.
1:05 "gonna pretend like we're a legitimate youtube channel or something" seniority is legitimacy, you've been posting for _a few years now,_ that's gotta count for something.
3:19 i swear this is the same blurb seen in an old Ashens review of a knockoff cell phone. i'll have to go back and check later. i wanna say its the "nckia" review. that hit me like a wall. edit maybe not it's missing "short long message" functionality

While some Spreadtrum devices do have J2ME support, it’s usually very poorly thrown together and locked behind SIM card insertion for some reason.
I remember when you would download a J2ME app for your phone, hit install, and cross your fingers that it was even compatible with your phone
@@TweeterMan287 yep. those were the days…
The "currently not available" pop up on the Java app was because you either had a bad SIM (e.g. one it didn’t like) or no SIM at all inserted.
