    Not even 15 min in and i'm already loving Cameron's multiple "oh god how far back do I have to go to properly explain this?" moments that every 40K fan has when trying to explain the lore.

      There´s been more written about 40k than any other franchise. So to explain a character you might first have to explain their origin, or a subfaction, or an event that led to the creation of said subfaction. 40k fans have this timeline where everything (mostly) fits in. But it becomes hard to explain to the uninitiated because a story can have multiple starts and endings. You could simply say "it´s a spaceship" but that´s not really true because to understand what it really is means you need to know what happened fifteen thousand years earlier.

    Shout out to Cameron to keeping his explanation of Abaddon the Despoiler to under ten minutes. Lord knows trying to give any kind of surface level explanation of anything 40K lore wise is... a challenge. Key word salad. Proper nouns on proper nouns, each with a wiki full of rabbit holes self justifying one another. Yeah, that snake ate it's own tale decades ago and never stopped.
    I legit burst out laughing when he starting off by explaining the the nature of reality. Because yes. I felt that one.
    Warhammer is so dumb. I love that about it.

    • @devinkerr5474
      @devinkerr5474 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't normally dive into properties that have too much established lore because it hurts my brain (part of why I don't read the hobbits, trying to come to grips with the millennia of back-story), and I think Warhammer is the one property that is enticing, but gives me migraines just contemplating

    • @TevorTheThird
      @TevorTheThird 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@devinkerr5474 One thing I'll say in favor of demystifying 40K intimidation factor is that, while my and everyone else's comments here are accurate, there is also an effective reading of 40K from the far opposite angle.
      Meaning? I think you can still enjoy most 40K stuff from a super surface level superficial read of it. Tyranids? Hoard of hungry space bugs. Orks? Well they're Orcs... in space... with guns. Necros? What if the Undead were Terminators instead of skeletons. Space Marines? Space Marines.
      All 100% accurate and true statements that get the point and flavor across.
      All the rabbit hole stuff we joke about is there but I wouldn't ever suggest someone try to learn it all. First you don't need too. Second, there's literally too much and I think it's by design.
      Just pick something you like, be it a 40K videogame, one of these Commander Decks, whatever and take it at face value. It's never actually all that complicated story telling in execution. If something strikes your fancy and you want to learn more about it? Just know that there's always more to learn if you look.
      Game Workshop always used to call it's "lore" simply "fluff" because that's really what it is. There's a lot of it. But it's fluff. You don't need to know it so the smart money is not to try to know it all. You can always google something later after all :p
      The Tyranids are still just cool hungry space bugs whether you know what the Shadow of the Warp is, or about the crazy Genestealer lore, or not.

    The difference between this and the Command Zone's 40K deck reveal is so stark. I have learned so much from those guys over the years but, their review couldn't have felt less passionate in comparison. This is outstanding! • @TruBoreDOM
      @TruBoreDOM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is exactly why I was kinda disappointed with command zone getting the full deck reveal for one of these and I'm not saying they're bad at it, they are actually really good at it for most normal magic sets but these decks feel like they should have gone to more channels like LRR and Pleasantkenobi where both channels have content corresponding to both franchises, for example with the doctor who decks I don't want to see Vince (Pleasantkenobi) preview one but the professor absolutely should get one. I want to see people being passionate about both things preview the universes beyond decks.

    Luna Wolves are named after the moon, but mainly because it was their first major engagement, They weren’t from there (Specifically the clone cults of Luna called on the Emperor to call off his wolves). They got renamed the Black Legion some time after the Heresy failed (think it was around a thousand years after) and it was less about mourning and more about casting off the shame. The other legions were not very happy with the surviving Sons of Horus for leading them into a failed coup.

If the "borrowed" creatures have any death-related triggers, those still fire under your control.

    Just a small rules correction for anyone wondering. Chaos warp certainly doesn't combo with brainstorm, as you have to shuffle before revealing.

    absolute banger of a vid. my favorite way to consume 40K is to hear people who love it tell me about the lore. and all these cards look so good!

    There appears to be an editing mistake at the gold cards where the voices stop matching the video. It starts with Graham saying something to Paul. Otherwise a great video. Loved hearing Cam talk about the lore.

    • @snowcookiemedia
      @snowcookiemedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be because you were still watching when they used TH-cam's backend editor to remove that bit of the video since it was a behind the scenes bit that wasn't supposed to be there. If you refreshed and watched again, Graham talking to Paul is gone and the audio is in synch.

    Drach'Nyen was a Daemon born of humanity's first murder. Over the millennia he was imprisoned in the sword that was presented to Abaddon and it provides him counsel.

    Absolutely loved this. This seriously sold me on a Commander deck I didn't even know existed. Would love to see yall doing this for future Commander decks. Looking at things from both a metagame and a lore perspective is wonderful. As well as taking a little bit to go over each card meant I actually got to care about the cards more.

    Guys, Brainstorm and Chaos Warp don't have any synergy, at least not as far as controlling what you get off of it. You shuffle before you reveal the top card of your library.

    • @danielmartin8187
      @danielmartin8187 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fetchlands are considered to have synergy with Brainstorm for being able to shuffle away the two worst cards in your hand and giving you potentially fresh draws. Outside of Donate shenanigans, I can't really think of a situation where I want to spend a card for this effect, but it's certainly an option.
      With that said, I was confused by the inciting statement, and had to think ALOT about what Cameron might have meant.

    • @nextgenwarrior
      @nextgenwarrior 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielmartin8187 but that is not the synergy he was talking about. He was trying to say you can use it to setup the top of your library to control what you get off of it, which doesn't work.

    Hey Guys, noticed this really quickly. Plague drone isn't exquisite blood on a body. It's more like another copy of Tainted Remedy. But, this video is really awesome, and I'm really enjoying watching the team talk about the deck!!

    I just had too add. Plague Drone is a tainted remedy on legs. Exquisite blood heals you when they loos life and the other piece if the combo makes them loose life when you heal.
    A super sweet card. I love tainted remedy and it never makes the final cut in my deck builds. Giving it a body makes it much more viable.

    I appreciate Cam's concise explanation of Warhammer lore. also I'm in the same boat as Cam and Ben on this, all the Izzet spellslinger cards call to me!
    hopefully LRR and other content creators can help us Warhammer noobs understand some of that universe in this and following weeks.

    I know this was the first time they'd seen these cards and it's not possible to be aware of every strategy, but I was a little surprised nobody mentioned at 1:35:46 that The Lost and the Damned synergizes nicely with fetch lands. Even the budget friendly Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse come with bonus Spawn tokens thanks to this lovely enchantment.

  • @EmmettMcMullan

    This was really entertaining! Thanks for the insights, and I'm grateful to see so many compelling card designs, many of which, at least in this case, feel like they won't be too much of a flavor mismatch with any of New Phyrexia, old Phyrexia, Grixis on Alara, etc. The 40k cards at least look very WH40K while also looking abundantly MTG-appropriate, so hopefully we'll be able to have some fun with these universes beyond
