I see my daughter made it to that show, she said it was amazing...I had to of course give her a history on how slam became to be a genre, and I kind of passed the torch of knowledge but I have 2 favorite bands of all time, one is tge founder influences of slam it took a long time before tge public started realizing it, but Suffocation, all hail the death metal band from east coast, they originally started the " mainstream " riff that slam is based on, but my other favorite band of all time just dropped a new E.P" Vio-lence, Let the World Burn" tge purest of thrash returns after 20 years...but Suffocation in 1986, 87, 88, they had these slide riffs with palmute, and well as evolution had its way some original slam bands such as Devourment, and Internal Bleeding will tell you suffocation was the stylist fir their genre. SLAM ON
In my humble opinion, although the term originated with Internal Bleeding, I beleive "Sermon of Mockery" by Pyrexia to be the first slam record. But Devourments "Molesting the Decapitated" set the template for slam as we know it today. It's also interesting how Disgorge's "Cranial Impalement" was released several months before the aforementioned. Whether that could be considered a milestone is subjective I suppose.
