I inherited the B&D 4075 Wildcat version of this sander from a dear, late friend. I know he and I used it and abused it over the course of 40 years. Looking forward to restoring it and putting it back in action and dedicate the effort to him. Your video is an inspiration. Thank you.
This highly informative & well-done video includes the valuable information that I will need to tackle the complete restoration of my vintage grinder. A big thank-you to Gentleman’s Armory for sharing the stellar guidance! 🛠👍😎
Wow what a transformation!! I love old school power tools. They were so overbuilt to last forever. I recently just purchased a vintage Thor polisher, and a 1940’s or 50’s Thor sander that I want to restore myself and your video has really come in handy when I plan on tackling the job. It’s interesting how your B&D and my Thor look exactly the same lol. Thank you for doing a Vid like this as sometimes I feel like I’m the only person in the world that’s into old tools and is now starting a collection of them. 👌😎👍
Fantastic, I have just found an old B&D 7" Heavy Duty Sander, that's all I can make out from the badge, it is quite corroded. I am sure this awesome video will help me loads when I get around to trying the same job. Thank you
I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed the video. If you have any questions as you move along your restoration don’t hesitate to ask! Congratulations on your purchase. These grinders are beasts!
dude u did a AMAZING JOB.........that head needs wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more red grease packed in it...like alot more...my last metabo ran for 15 years.....my wildcat still runs....
Awesome video thanks for sharing, i got one just like it I'm taking apart now i been trying to find parts for it no luck yet on finding brushes and on off switch
The on/off switch was just a generic one from Amazon. I think Home Depot even has some similar. I think I got the brushes at a local small engine repair shop. If I remember correctly, they aren’t that specific, and the staff there were helpful in finding something that would work.
Great video, I have similar grinder that I inherited from my dad. It has an all aluminum housing. I can't tell if its a 1940's era or a 1960's era. Do you know of a way to find the approximate date of manufacture on an old Black & Decker power tool?
I don’t believe they manufactured too many different kinds in that period. I believe it was basically a standard duty and possibly a heavy duty model. I would try googling the instruction manuals for them and trying to match them with the pictures in the manual. Good luck! Let me know what you find out!
One more thing I see ur just now starting ur channel this video was awesome keep doing videos like this clean audio and HD video give it a little time the subs will pour in long as u stay working the channel I'm gonna sub bc I like ur work u did a great job on this
I believe they referenced them by catalog numbers back then. At least that is all I could find. This one is a 7” Standard Ball Bearing Sander from Catalog No. 92. Good luck with your search! It will be worth it to get it fixed up!
I only do this as a hobby, so no, but I can provide you some information to assist with a restoration of your own if you'd like! It was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. Good luck!
Great job
Got a like when you grabbed back for the instructions lol!

How much would you charge to rebuild mine? Very similar to this one.
Curt Oliver Not currently doing restorations professionally, more of just a hobby at this point. I’ll let you know if anything changes!
Would you be interested in restoring another one?
I only do this as a hobby, so no, but I can provide you some information to assist with a restoration of your own if you'd like! It was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. Good luck!
