- Hello everyone, this is a slightly different style of video as I decided to show you a little of what I do on a 'normal' weekend at home. On Saturday, we were mostly at home and I did some cooking, work and hung out with Oslo who was visiting for the weekend. On Sunday, it was Oslo's Birthday so we took him on a walk on The Roaches!

You've inspired me to start hiking around parts of Britain. Ive never done it before and I have no one to go with but Im going to book some time off and go!
Go for it , I often go out for walks cycles and camps alone and find that solo adventurists are a very big percentage of people out and about being active 👍🙂

Solo hiking is pretty common and can sometimes be preferable depending on how adventurous your goals are. Go for it.

Lovely! I now have a 7month grandchild. Her dad is a Mensa personage & she leaves us flabbergasted, because Shannon sends us videos every day.
Wrapped up and walking in horrible weather, you can't beat it, especially when you get back in the warm with a nice coffee. The soup looked lush. I have a 20 month old Springer Spaniel and know the look they give, you can't resist. Rain or shine they don't care. great video.

Absolutely beautiful video as always! My Englishman and I did the Roaches last September and we started in Gradbach, around Danesbridge and also through Lud’s Churc and up Hanging Rock towards the Roaches. It was really gorgeous. As you said, even in the rain (or right after) there can be that moment when the light just shines through. Amazing for sure!!! Thank you :)

Athena, so optimistic to make the best of what looked like a very damp day. Excellent B roll considering the conditions, well done. Count yourself lucky that you can take a big cooked breakfast and a massive pork pie on the same day and still get through that narrow gap in the wall. For me in my late 60s I need to look for a wide five bar gate. And no doubt somebody has spotted, was that Harley driving with no seatbelt on? Who’s a naughty boy then!
We visited the Roaches to rock climb, when I was at college, Alsager, training to be a PE teacher and I took the outdoor pursuits option. Please keep the videos coming. I really enjoy them.

TH-cam recommended your channel and I'm so glad it did. I live in Australia, it is so hot here right now and I can't wait until it gets cooler so I can hike again. The Peak District looks stunningly beautiful, I never really wanted to visit the UK before but now I do!
For some reason the shots @1:40 and 10:10 really stood out to me. The shots with the combination of the music and the color grading were really well done (particularly at those spots). I really enjoyed this video.

Milk in a bottle ! Delivered ! I thought that was only in the movies and the Indianapolis 500.
The only local butcher I know just works during hunting season.
I can't get over how you have no trees but the views are great. I really loved that ravine you hiked through with all the moss.

I grew up in the area before I moved to Canada (at 6) so this brought back lots of childhood memories! I've only been back to the Roaches once and missed Lud's Church. Makes me feel the need to go back and find these places again :) I was so happy to find your channel and blog so that I know where to walk next time I go! Lovely video!

That soup looked yummy and your breakfast too. Probably 30 years since I last went to the Roaches and Lud's Church. Used to go a lot. Happy days. I'll have to venture out there again. Happy birthday Oslo. Great vid as always. 🙂
What an idyllic weekend. Mine are somewhat similar except my local walks are so much less spectacular - here in the south we have rolling hills rather than granite peaks and it’s currently oh so muddy! My soup this weekend is cauliflower and almond.......

Thank you! We were trying out a different camera, really keen to get better at that style of shot! I'm definitely not veggie, though I do try to be mindful of how much meat I eat and buy locally from the butcher wherever possible :)

Decided to make the same recipe. 1st time I’ve made a homemade soup. Delicious. Of course , I may have added some extra bacon. 😜. I think this will be a great thing to take on my winter photography or snowshoeing adventures. 👍

Loving your videos. You've got a great eye for the little details as well as being able to capture our wonderful countryside and provide a mixture of uplifting and relaxing thoughts that make me want to get out there and curl up in front of an open fire (to watch more) at the same time. I learned to climb on the Roaches (about 50 years ago!) . I was never any good but I was of the generation that saw an ascent of "Sloth" as a major achievement. We - the "Valkyrie Climbing Group" - did a mass ascent of this classic Don Whillans climb one Saturday afternoon. A bunch of us spread out on adjoining climbs to film this and then Aubrey led out the overhang, showing he was at his limit, Tony, our 17 yr old wunderkind, followed like a scalded cat then Frank (our star climber) showboated all the way up. By the time they sumitted there was a large crowd watching the action.
Anyway, thanks Athena for a lovely film bringing back pleasant memories. Did you get to the old hermit's cave?
bless you for this video. it brings back happy memories when I was young and went rock climbing on the Roahes; it feels a lifetime ago. there was a funny man, I think he was called Dougie that lived in the old cottage without electricity and water, the cottage had an earthen floor ( it is probably delerict by now). there was a famous rock climb that had a hidden foot placement that you had to make a move of faith as falling would not be good for you, Dougie always came out to watch. thank you.
Tip for cutting the bread, don't use a serrated knife! Gets through the crust easier, just make sure it's sharp!

I haven't yet but may try it that way next time! I'm making cauliflower soup tomorrow. Do you just bake them with olive oil?
Use only a small of oil . I would recommend a really good sourdough bread .. BTW you still get your choice of music perfect

Hello Athena, oh and Harvey (making a bigger part) Your house looks like it has character. What age is it? I used to live in a 16th century barn conversion here in Devon. What a map collection ...do you have shares in printing 😂. Great video as always. Thank you.
The house is from 1678... it has loads of character! We love it. The maps are a mixture of mine and Harvey's, and some inherited from my dad and grandpa when they passed away.

I work for a climbing company doing communications. I really enjoy it and am able to work from home a couple of days a week which is nice :) But my personal projects like these videos and my blog are what really inspires me

Wish I could see what the UK was like 500 years ago. We are still lucky to have many areas of protected land that feel somewhat wild when standing in the middle of them, but do agree that it's a shame to see so much building. Hopefully these videos can inspire people to want to protect what we have.

In all seriousness, how did you transport it? Did you heat up before heading out and put it in a thermos?
I use a Hydroflask so just heated it up in the morning and added it in there :) Stays piping hot!

I love it up the roaches its one of my local routes ,what route did you take ? have you ever walked to three shires head ,you can get to it from roache end and down to gradbach mill
We headed straight onto the Roaches from the road below, round to Lud's Church and back across the Roaches. I do have the route somewhere... Haven't done Three Shire's Head but it's been on my list for a while!
@@RambleFamily oh you should its lovely little walk not too taxing ,and has a few pools you can dip your feet in on a hot summers day ,plus you can make the walk longer if you want by heading up to dane head and axe edge moor

Hi Athena and birthday boy 🎂 Oslo, a very rustic Vlog, a heart stopper breakfast 🍳,milk delivered in bottles 🍶🍶Klink klink in the dead of night, fresh bread 🍞 from the local baker oven,soup made in a big pot that your granny used on her range,and we are not talking Range Rovers range ,we are talking a big black thing that had a rocking chair beside it, I jest with you, I am a great lover of soup 🍲 on a wet and cold day,as we say in Scotland 🗻a dreak day,a day by the fire 🔥with a bottle of the water of life while toasting one's feet 👣in front of a big fire 🔥and the smell 👃 of soup 🍲 wafting up your nose 👃,with nothing to beat it.
I make my soup in a slow cooker or in my pressure cooker if I am in a bit of rush,then blend it in my Vitamix to a creamy consistency,that makes very heart warming on walk on a cold and wet day,where you can smell 👃Peat and see a lought of Heather,and we are not talking about your sister Heather,we are talking wild Heather that is abundant up here in Scotland 🗻,anyway I am of to make soup 🍲 for today,so take care and all the best from up here in Scotland 🗻 .

Hi Athena trust you Harvey and oslo are well I would like to get my wife a bialetti stove top coffee maker for Xmas is the one in you video a three cup I think she would like one of these for when we are in our camper van she’s a latte kind of gal 😁 any advice would be much appreciated 👍
Wow takes you 4 to 6 hours to edit a video, I am just getting into video/editing and it's just took me 11 days to do 2 videos
It's a time-consuming task for sure! But I'm getting the hang of it...
