this video was a nice shift in perspective from the typical advice given. Art has so many sub stats that we can get bogged down in what we aren't leveled up in that sometimes we do need an adult to just say, hey, you're doing good.
I was kind of aware of the concepts in this video before watching it, but the way you put it really made me consciously aware of it, and it ended up being really motivating! I struggle with bein overly self-critical a lot and I just have to remind myself to not be discouraged by certain shortcomings, but rather motivated! Definitely earned a new sub :)

THANK YOU, so much. I needed this. I'm trying to level up my anatomy, since my drawings always seem to come out wonky somehow. But I know that after that, there's still so much left to learn... And I shouldn't beat myself up for not being perfect RIGHT NOW. Or perfect at EVERYTHING. Your reminder that a portraitist's skillset is different from a cartoon artist, helped ground me; I usually draw cartoons (or cartoon-y style art), and that my IRL (as opposed to digital) pencil shading skills are like a five year old's isn't bad. No matter the skill level, I think any artist would benefit from watch this short video.
I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into these videos. Awesome animation and visual representations of concepts. I think for many people it would be a major help for learning. Thanks for the effort, Marcel!
thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos, your videos alone have improved my art faster in days than most youtubers have in months or years the fact that you take all this time just to help people inspires me greatly and i recommend your videos to all my friends who are interested in art as well ❤
Thank you for your videos! I left my art portfolio behind more than a decade ago for a more lucrative career. Thanks to your videos, I'm gaining the confidence to pick the pencil back up and draw again!
This is a shockingly useful and unique take on art, recently the only thing I've been drawing is BLANKS but this video has reminded me that there's always something in my art to pick out and refine If i'm not satisfied
I really like that idea of breaking it down into skills that you have to level up individually. When drawing something new it’s easy to get stuck in the mindset of “other people are able to do it so why am I struggling if I can do so and so” when it’s just a matter of different expertise. I want to apply that sort of skill mindset next time I try drawing, and when looking at other people’s works. Also the tfs joke was mad funny
this is the video i needed to see. i've made some things i'm quite proud of in terms of colors, lighting/shading and such, but i nearly break down in tears whenever i envision a line and my hand completely misses it. you're right in the point that having weak suits doesn't make you a bad artist, and that realizing that isn't as obvious as it seems. thank you.
This month has been teaching me the same lesson over and over again. And it has been a pretty stressful one at that. But I’ll share my experience. The thing that I feel an artist should strive for is to challenge themselves. Try and do something that your not familiar with, and even if it’s bad don’t worry about it because you are doing something new. And from that you might have a new appreciation for the thing that you have tried. And the second lesson that I have learned is discipline. The ability to do things even when you don’t really feel like it. If you really want to improve your skills in a shorter amount of time, try to draw consistently. It doesn’t have to be a big draw 100 characters every day, but something like have a sketch of something new every other day. I hope this helps someone out there who is looking to improve. I know that this sounds like a no brainier but for me it only hit me this month that artist do things because it’s hard, not because it’s easy.
I like how you explained that concept. There’s so many instances where I’ve seen people say “If you start out drawing the wrong way then you’ll develop your skills wrong and you can’t go back,” and that can make starting to draw so intimidating. But this makes it clear that everyone has different skills they start with, and they can work with those and then decide what other things they want to take the time to improve along the way. There’s no one “right way” to get better at art. Anything that gets you to draw in the first place is the best practice you can get.
Amazing video Marsha, i know it can be pretty taxing to work on so many things at the same time, but your dedication is inspiring to so many artists out there. Keep drawing like a sir ❤
Thanks Dlas, I really needed this today. My portraits are horrible due to me somehow always drawing a really round face and I thought of quitting until I saw this. Truth is Im just not as good at drawing faces as I am with eyes. Same with hair too, I shall study even harder that I have before and to anyone else reading this, NEVER give up.

I was sooooo bad at drawing but idk I feel like when I clicked on your channel I began to truly get interested in drawing and now I'm getting better and better. You have helped me and countless other people more than you know. On behalf of everyone, thank you!!
I know I could make a witty joke comment or whatever but I actually really needed a video like this. After months of questioning if I am a bad artist I think this kinda jolted me awake in showing that I’m just not as good as doing certain things compare to others. Thank you for making this!
Without this guys channel I’d probably be lost for a long time with my art, I’ve been watching him since the beginning and I honestly just wanna thank you for making these videos, they are always high quality and very informative. So thank you ❤
This is absolutely true! Working on different skill sets will help you level up your artworks. You always make such gorgeous art and I'm always inspired to try something new when I watch you and your videos. ❤ 🤗
Okay here is some tips to improve I'm probably gotta list that you have heard before or draw like a sir said. 1. Practice the thing you're not good at, for example hands , atonomy and pose's this are the things Im not good at and I practice them and I'm getting a little better. 2. Look at references to draw, it's not cheating it's pretty normal to the art community to look at references and learn from them 3. Don't compare yourself with other artist, don't do that because you're just lowering you're confidence and probably having an unrealistic goals, you're not gonna get good overnight it takes time and hardwork to get where you want to be. 4. Simplify things, just simplify things I simplify my eyes because I hate drawing eyes so I just add to lines and a circle in-between. Okay I hope this works just keep practicing until you get what you wanted (btw I didn't watch the video so I probably listing some of the things sir said.)
Hey Marcel! I've been working my way through your videos steadily and I gotta say it now - thank you SO MUCH for putting yourself and your art and your knowledge out there. I had been in a real art block (more like slump) for over a year now, didn't even sketch because I felt so bad about my art and my apparently none-existent improvement at it. Then YT recommended me your "draw any pose" tutorial and it was like a wakeup call. You have such a good way of explaining the things I struggled with - putting in perspective how much work and times it needs to get better, but never forgetting to point out that drawing first and foremost should be FUN. Your entire videos are fun, with all the jokes, the (amazing) animations, and the way you sometimes laugh about yourself. It took me only two videos to start drawing again, and I have a lot of fun now, while actually improving with the help of your tips. So, thank you so much for that. Thanks for all the work and time you put into this. PS: Just got your book, and it's as much fun as your videos. Nice to have a piece of that at home now. =D
At some point more than a decade ago I stopped drawing or painting people or anything except for landscapes and architecture in watercolor to practice my coloring. At some point I started introducing idols into the landscapes to have some sort of characters. In the meantime I practiced drawing plaster casts of Greek and Roman sculptures. At some point I felt that I could combine the two skills and my very first portrait in watercolor amazed me. Since then, I started painting more complex scenes, some better than others, but my stylization skills are still at zero as they were to begin with.
Thank you so much for your videos!! I recently picked up drawing again after stopping when i was a teenager (I'm mid-30s now). As a kid, I never learned foundational skills and learned to draw by copying, so if I tried to draw anything from scratch it all fell apart. Your videos have been super useful because I'm trying to learn all the basics properly, and my drawing has already improved a lot :)
I started drawing about a year ago, and my friend recommended to me this channel, and its been a large part of my journey, from very helpful tutorials to encouraging messages. Its been a fantastic year and there’s plenty more to come!
You make really high quality fun videos with a very credible amount of details regarding what you are talking about. I could draw anime faces okishly from long ago but I've always had trouble with anatomy and hands and fingers specially. With just a few of your videos I've already learnt so much more that I didn't previously and am sure to make gradual improvements to my drawing skills thanks to you. Please keep uploading videos regularly, they are absolutely amazing and so much to learn from.
I'm a blossoming 3D animator/modeler and I find this to be relevant even in my field. I feel the concepts you cover for drawing can easily be tailored for 3D artwork as well. Anatomy, characters, creatures, realistic, styled, inorganic, organic, and even the different aspects of 3D like, I'm more comfortable with animation over modeling. There's also lighting and environment design, composition and compositing. I only recently started to focus more on my weaknesses like modeling characters to try to round out my skills to make myself a more flexible artist but it's certainly not easy! Entirely worth it though. Excellent topic, great video. 🙂
fantastic video as always! Thank you for these, I've never improved in my art endeavors despite trying so many times in my life, until finding THIS channel. I know you're of the mentality that it's all about motivation, not talent, but I have dysgraphia, which makes holding a pencil, writing in straight lines, conceptualizing space on a page, and keeping my hands steady difficult. I've 100% been "improving the wrong way" in the past, as after 2 years of practice, everyone I showed my before & after drawings to thought my new versions were the OLD ones, and said I got better.... meaning I ACTUALLY had gotten worse? XD So thank you for everything! Your models and screenshot things at the end of videos help a TON. Idk if you're looking for suggestions for videos, but if you are, I'd love to see a video about how to draw *motion.* Y'know, movement for characters more than just regarding clothing/hair. I like drawing little comic-esque silly scenarios & wanna learn how to denote motion to make it dynamic! Anyway, thanks for everything and I look forward to WHATEVER you make next :D
Good day, just wanted to say your video’s and tips are great. At 63 I just started to pick up my pencils again in retirement. Thank you I look forward to more lessons for you.

4:34 that's one of the best drawing i've seen tbh, you can feel the vibe. Amazing art doesn't have to be complex. It applies to music too, perhaps everything. Coding/repair experience can help with analyzing what you need to improve on, you gain that mindset of "why is my drawing bad, what part is the worst ?".

As for the information, no lie, but i really needed to hear this. Thanks really a lot sir!!
Great video! Working 9 -5 but still producing amazing art and making these videos is so inspiring
I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into these videos.
Awesome animation and visual representations of concepts. I think for many people it would be a major help for learning.
Thanks for the effort, Marcel!
Thanks ARNOLD for this beautiful video ! means alot for us.
thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos, your videos alone have improved my art faster in days than most youtubers have in months or years
the fact that you take all this time just to help people inspires me greatly and i recommend your videos to all my friends who are interested in art as well ❤
This man never disappoints with the art and jokes.
Thank you for your videos! I left my art portfolio behind more than a decade ago for a more lucrative career. Thanks to your videos, I'm gaining the confidence to pick the pencil back up and draw again!
I feel better about my art every time I watch your videos thank you.
Love all the hard work over the years.
I absolutely cannot wait for the next upload. Amazing editing as always Mario.
Just straight-up pausing the video to say:
Those clean neon-blue infographics just fill my heart with joy- they look SO good.
10/10 work
'The only person that needs to be happy with an artwork is the one who made it' love that
Wait this just popped on on the page and I loved it so much
This is a shockingly useful and unique take on art, recently the only thing I've been drawing is BLANKS but this video has reminded me that there's always something in my art to pick out and refine If i'm not satisfied
He goes through a lot of work to help us with our art! thank you for another good video! :)
Dude i swear u were the best channel on art when i was a beginner and my whole art playlist videos ar just ur videos
Your so entertaining and you remind me to never give up on my dream on making a manga career
this is the video i needed to see. i've made some things i'm quite proud of in terms of colors, lighting/shading and such, but i nearly break down in tears whenever i envision a line and my hand completely misses it. you're right in the point that having weak suits doesn't make you a bad artist, and that realizing that isn't as obvious as it seems. thank you.
You work so hard so just thank you for everything you do❤
I'm so glad I watched this. It made me feel so much better about the areas I need to improve on. Thank you!
I love ur vidoes!!!! U have one of the most unique vids ever!!! They are Funny, useful and entertaining!!
Oh wow i've never heard anyone say that but that's exactly how i've always felt like i did something wrong and i cant improve anymore
"If you start out wrong, you're screwed for life"
Amazing video Marsha, i know it can be pretty taxing to work on so many things at the same time, but your dedication is inspiring to so many artists out there. Keep drawing like a sir ❤
Thanks Dlas, I really needed this today. My portraits are horrible due to me somehow always drawing a really round face and I thought of quitting until I saw this. Truth is Im just not as good at drawing faces as I am with eyes. Same with hair too, I shall study even harder that I have before and to anyone else reading this, NEVER give up.
your a goat marcel, man you have helped me and so many other people more than you know.
In times when I have art burn out I’ll often come to this channel and gain my motivation again, I’ve been drawing for all my life and being self taught, it’s just really nice to have a TH-cam channel dedicated to drawing.

2. Look at references to draw, it's not cheating it's pretty normal to the art community to look at references and learn from them
00:50 this part was so hopeful for me because I was anxious that I won't be able to draw when working. Thank you for being honest, and great video!
Hope you make it to 1M😊
Thank you so much for your videos!! I recently picked up drawing again after stopping when i was a teenager (I'm mid-30s now). As a kid, I never learned foundational skills and learned to draw by copying, so if I tried to draw anything from scratch it all fell apart. Your videos have been super useful because I'm trying to learn all the basics properly, and my drawing has already improved a lot :)
Still waiting for sir to teach us male anatomy with his own body 👀🗿
Your videos have helped me with a lot of stuff, plus your voice is so calming too me and I love your humor!
Only legends know the art of the thumbnail😂❤
I started drawing about a year ago, and my friend recommended to me this channel, and its been a large part of my journey, from very helpful tutorials to encouraging messages. Its been a fantastic year and there’s plenty more to come!
Me when disowned:
Marcel thank you for your hard work I just want to say I'm thankful that all your vedios are free to watch
I don't know what to comment about but I'm still going to comment anyways
Keeping art learners motivated and pursuing the right learning goals, like a Sir.
ur one of the best youtubers. ur videos are simple and easy
One of the best art teachers so far
Thank you for your hard work, I really appreciate you. You have helped me improve a lot.❤
Thank you sir for these wonderful videos i am now enjoying how to draw more than ever! Thanks to you!
Keep it up and i also will!
Heres you support sir. Keep up the great work.
fantastic video as always! XD
So thank you for everything!
Love your art
I've just discovered your channel, I've watched four videos in a row, and I've subscribed 'cause they're that good. Good luck with whatever Conns are happening in Germany, hi from Italy :3
Nice I love supporting a stranger I’ve never met
Marcel, I want to thank you for great tutorials and advises, thanks to them I was able to drastically improve in art. You're doing great job like a sir
Thank you for all your hard work SIR I am glad u started this channel, you making these videos alone is inspirational to me...THANK YOU ❤️ 🔥 I'll get to work at improving immediately
The thumbnail genuinely describes the video very nicely done
I needed this today, thank you for teaching me like a sir.
Your videos really helped me improve. Thank you.
man these videos are so helpful, thanks for all the effort💪
Why do I feel like all his videos come at just the right time
Because of you, I've improve alot, with the help of yours, and the motivation that my classmate that gave me
Ty for raising my confidence ❤
Should I trust it?
