  • Kaia is a 16 year old, Connemara Thoroughbred (breed) who was surrendered to Rising Starr Horse Rescue in Connecticut. She has been living with love and safety at Rising Starr for almost a year now.
The Connemara is best known today as a versatile sports pony. Ridden by both adults and children, it is considered competitive in most disciplines. Connemaras are especially desirable in eventing, dressage and show jumping but they also excel in harness, competitive trail, endurance riding and field hunting.
In North America, Purebred Connemara Ponies range in height from 13h to over 15h. Its body type, substance and ground covering paces lend it a more horse-like feel than most other pony breeds.
The most common colors are Grey and Buckskin (often mistakenly referred to as Dun), but Blacks, Bays, Browns, Chestnuts, Palominos and Roans also occur and are highly desirable.
The Connemara Pony is most cherished by owners for its legendary rideability, matchless character and peerless work ethic. These trademark qualities combined with the Connemaras size and natural athletic abilities make them an ideal fit for most Adult Amateurs.
In North America, Purebred Connemara Stallions are often crossed on Thoroughbred and Sport Horse Mares to produce a versatile, easy to manage, competitive mounts for the Adult Amatuer. The Connemara crossed on the Thoroughbred mare is one of the Traditional Irish Sport Horse Crosses. Such Crosses can be registered as Half Breds. These half bred sport horses compete across disciplines at the highest levels of sport. Other desirable crosses include the Connemara crossed onto Warmblood. ISH, ID and Arabian Mares as well as Sport Ponies of all types.

RISING STARR HORSE RESCUE saves, rehabilitates, retrains and rehomes abandoned, neglected or abused horses and educate about at-risk horses and the importance of protecting them.
By giving America's horses a second chance at life we give the community the chance to experience the love, patience and compassion horses have for humans.
When Kelly Stackpole decided to open her barn to teach noncompetitive horse lessons in 2005, her goal was to bring her passion and love for these incredible animals to others and guide them toward finding a similar love and connection to horses. She did not expect, while looking for horses to fill her barn, to discover that young, sound and healthy horses as well as older horses were being disregarded and often sent off to slaughter. As soon as she became aware that any of the animals beloved to her were not treated in a humane way, she found another mission, and Rising Starr Horse Rescue was born.
Rising Starr relies on a group of talented and specialized veterinarians, chiropractors, staff, and volunteers who work together to approach each horse’s rehabilitation. This team of dedicated individuals ensures that every horse becomes healthy, happy, and confident before moving on to its new home.
Beyond restoring comfort and care to these horses, our purpose at Rising Starr is to inform others about the cruelty of horse slaughter while providing guidance on how to decrease the number of unwanted horses in the United States.
Every member of our program treats all of our horses with the love and respect they deserve - it's their passion. Our volunteers include many teens and children, as we hope that by raising children that are thoughtful and caring about the treatment of horses, we will have the biggest impact on the future of America's horses.  Not only does RSHR have a Dedicated board but we are developing a Youth board to continue our work in the future.

As a human with scoliosis I’ve had chiropractic since I was a teenager. Atlas out is a feeling of pressure and difficulties concentrating. First time it was adjusted tears just flowed from the immense sensation of relief. Since then I’ve needed Gonstead chiro with courage to adjust me. With one side tight and the other too loose. It’s so easy to pull a muscle and I’m in misery. I have a parrot with a tender right foot/leg. It often cracks when I pick her up. She will cry out at times if she reinjured it upon stepping on her right foot. No history of trauma that I saw anyway.

I wonder if the horses learn to look forward to chiro adjustments? When they get a follow up visit?

    • @AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen
      @AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

Yes, many horses will remember the chiropractor and begin to look forward to it. Dogs too.

I bet she feels so much better now. That was great,we could really see a result. When they lean into your hand is that because the pressure feels nice? Also I'm watching all these little commercials so I hope you get a little something for that. 🤗

Yes, I do get paid a little bit on each commercial. Not a lot but it helps.

I love how the horse at one point looks like "Wait... he's touching that spot again but there's no pain this time" then looks at the camera as if saying 'what the heck is going on here?"

Kaia was super well behaved here, but does it ever get scary working with horses because they’re so large and prone to spooking? I can’t imagine what it would be like to work on a really huge horse like a draft horse too... keep up the good work!

I wish you could come take care of my daughter's horse we rescued from the kill pen. Bless his heart. He is a little white pony that was severely overweight and sick when we got him. He has a few spots on his back like that. I am gonna call around and see if I can get someone to come out

Dr Willen, I absolutely love your videos! This is an odd question but, do you ever accept shadow students in the Connecticut area? I am a certified vet tech but what you’re doing for animals is amazing on a whole other level!

Doc, every time you’re finishing up, feeling to recheck, when ever you say “beautiful” that things feel good, I always say to you “you’re beautiful!” The adjectives “fantastic “ & fabulous also come to mind when I watch you work. I’m grateful to you on behalf of those animals.
