I was looking for this comparison. I bought the Zomei a couple of months ago, and then the Ulanzi got released. Thanks for taking the time to create it!

Thanks Sebastien:) I’m the same, I really wanted to try the Ulanzi despite having and enjoying the Zomei already. Now I’m glad to have both given their slightly different looks and advantages vs each other. Hope you’ll have as much fun using yours! Thank YOU Shiyeon - I really appreciate you watching and sharing the kind words:) I'm always happy when people like the humour too - it can be quite subjective haha! Great to have you on board and hope you have a great weekend:)
Hey Marten, thanks for watching-especially twice:) I would say for studio stuff it depends entirely on the look you like the most. A wider angle will show more space so if you have an interesting space you want to draw more attention to it can be great. There’s no ‘right or wrong’ here-just preference for a given look. There’s some examples in my studio settings video which quickly show the different ZV1 settings and use of the wide lens in a studio setting: th-cam.com/video/FjmUIo5Gf-c/w-d-xo.html Let me know if you have any questions, consider subscribing if you like this sort of content and Ian awesome day 💪👍
@@dbvares8745 thanks, just watched it. Was already subbed! I will do more testing and maybe i will pick up the ulanzi wide angle lens! Thanks again, I'm really enjoying your vids.
Ah excellent-thanks Marten and welcome on board too:) I think the Ulanzi is useful but I mainly use if for vlogging. Having said that I’m limited to a pretty small flat so a wider view of my ‘studio’ set up doesn’t make so much sense for me 😆 Let me know what you desire in the end and have a great day 💪
I actually purchased the Ulanzi WL-3 Wide Angle/Macro Additional Lens after watching your vdo and told the company it was because of your review -*_ and also told them to send you some comms_* . One comment on editing: cause I always have subtitles turned on, the titles you have embedded at the bottom of your screen get wiped out. Can I suggest that you put them at the top of the screen next time?
Very nice comparison of both adapters. I got the Ulanzi, but I am not satisfied with it. The biggest criticism, which unfortunately no one mentions in their reviews, is that the WL-1 lens does not have a standard thread on the front. With the Ulanzi it is 61.7mm, so no UV or ND filter fits as an add-on.
Hey OnTour, thanks for watching and the insightful comment. It’s a really good point. I’ve been using a 52m variable nd right on the zv1 then attaching whichever wide lens on to that ND. Basically after the real zv1 lens but before the extra wide angle lens. It seems ok and if there’s an impact on optical quality it doesn’t seem noticeable, but I can’t claim to be a master of optics to say for sure! 😆 Maybe that workaround might help, fingers crossed 🤞, but as you say I have no solution for the non standard thread on the outside. Thanks for watching, consider subscribing if you like this sort of content and have a great day 💪👍
@@dbvares8745 Do you use the adaptor that comes with the lens to plug the ND or do we have to use 2 different adaptors, one for the ND and one for the lens? Thanks, your video was very informative to choose between the 2, and I particularly like the chromatic aberration on the Zomei, but the no use of zoom is hard (altho I fear the weight of the lens can damage the camera at using too much the zoom)
Thanks LML, glad you enjoyed the info AND the dubious humour 😆 Let me know if you have any questions and consider subscribing if you like this sort of content:) Take care and have a great day 👍
Thanks for the great review Dave! I just got my Zomei Ultrawide lens last night and can't wait to create contents with it..Can you post a video on tips about Slomo since I am getting choppy results on my videos. Have a great day!
Hey Jay & Rox, I hope you have fun shooting, I think it’s a great combo! and that’s is a very well timed question 😆 I have some slowmo tips planned for a be if the next few videos. The big thing I’m trying to plan around if the pandemic restrictions in the uk mean I can’t meet up with any other people so I’m having to think what shots I can get to demonstrate things with a bit more problem solving 😆 And same to you - hope your day is awesome 😎

Hey ISA, thanks for watching and sharing the kind words:) I took a look at the Hoheem Multi and the weight limit is apparently 400 grams. The Zomei is 94g and the Ulanzi is around 114g. I think the zv1 itself is around 300g. So theoretically the Zomei would be just within the gimbal weight limit and the Ulanzi would be just above, but it will be very close. Without having tried myself I’d say it may be better to look for a gimbal with a higher limit - running the motors to their limit and using nearly the max weight could be fine but sometimes it can also shorten the life of a gimbal or give less smooth results. If you can test one before buying I’d suggest that, otherwise I’d be cautious and go for something which can handle a bit more weight. Hope that helps:) Let me k ow how you get on, consider if you’ve been enjoying the videos and have a great day:)
@@dbvares8745 This is an excellent analysis. You're right technically. The weight is higher because 'Hohem I steady multi' can handle only 400 gms. But I asked another vlogger @WORTH IT OR NOT? about the same question, and he said that even with a camera case(of course with the lens) it works. Ulanzi he uses. I will try and let you know more about it myself. Btw, your motions recall the man pissed at Desperado's bar counter.😀 Thanks so much once again. 🔥

Great Review. Any experience with using these wide angle lenses with 4k and stabilization that crops the image? Would that crop the blurry edges of the Zomei ?

New sub here, awesome review! Still haven’t decided if I am going to buy the ulanzi as I don’t think I will be vlogging much. However, I will be using the zv1 on a tripod for my fishing channel Thanks for your video production. I enjoyed watching

Hello! Have you ever made a video of how to balance the sony zv 1 with the ULANZI lense since it’s so heavy because I am having a hard time balancing the sony zv 1 with the ULANZI lense, everytime I turn on the camera it will just face all the way down and crane M2 couldn’t handle it... and yes I use the same gimbal that you were using in the video. I’d love to hear an advice or tips from you 🙏🏼
Hey Jerome, it’s definitely a bit more difficult to balance with the Ulanzi, BUT it definitely works:) The main tips I have are to put the zv1 as far back as possible on the mounting plate, which will help with the front heaviness of the lens Also ensure the camera is turned on and can balance facing up towards the ceiling before turning on the gimbal. It’s basically the same method as in this video: th-cam.com/video/zOEyHuCOsu4/w-d-xo.html The only difference is really the mounting plate thing. There’s also some brief tips/video of balancing the Zomei lens (same exact principles but slightly lighter) in this vid if some more visual reference is helpful: th-cam.com/video/OJB-d8HEXwg/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps, let me know how you get on and if you have any other questions:)
Just ordered a wide angle lens for the zv-1. I feel for vlogging the active stabilisation needs to be on to stop the shakey mess, but the cut of the image is so bad!
Agree rob, without a wide lens you end up with a pretty tight shot 😂 Have you tried catalyst stabilisation yet? That can be a great option too: th-cam.com/video/O698QZRGI4E/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great weekend 👏
Cool Video 👍 great Infos. Im about to buy the ulanzi Lens and want to Know ist the View wider If i Only use the wide Part and use a stepupring to replacing the macro) and will the Image Quality stay the Same ?! I doubt that you tried it but maybe this Works 🤷🏽♂️
Hey DJ F, I’m pretty sure the lens requires both parts together to provide the wide angle view and correct optical quality. I haven’t tried the step up ring solution you suggest so can be sure but most larger lenses have multiple glass lenses inside; remove any one of them and the viewing angle, focus, distortion etc can all get messed up so I definitely would not rely on that step up ring approach working - the 2 elements together give that wide angle view. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👏

Great review thanks, subbed 👍🏻. I went for the Jobi telepod stick for now to use with my ZV-1. One thing i've noticed is the camera is more stable on the tripod so using both a WA lens and stick might be a good combo.
Thanks KD, really appreciate you watching and the nice comment:) Welcome on board 💪 I think you’re right about the stabilisation- it seems to do a bit better with a grip extension of some kind and the brief footage I took here with the selfie stick and wide lenses looks pretty smooth too, so agree that it looks a good combo. My favourite thing about the wide lenses is that convenience of just putting in a pocket whenever you go somewhere in case you want to shoot. Some grip extensions fit that description too but the tradeoff is they are inevitably a bit bulkier. Anyway thanks again and have an awesome day 👍
Hi there, thank you for watching and sharing the great question:) I was a little worried about that initially but I’ve now been using the adapter with lots of different attachments including the wide lens adapters and macro lens kit which is even heavier. Over 6 months and putting the ZV1 in all sorts of positions the sticker has held up and is totally secure. I’m sure it won’t last forever but I’m confident it will be fine for as long as you’re using the product:) I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions and consider subscribing if you liked the content:) Have a great day 👍😊

Great video, One thing that annoys me is the poor magnification ability of the 70mm end of the zv1 lens. Does the Ulanzi included macro lens improve on this, or does it only work at 24mm (which focuses close enough on me)?
Hey Rudy, sorry for the slow reply - I didn’t get a notification for this comment so only seeing now I sweep up things I haven’t replied to! The macro attachment definitely helps with magnification and can help achieve some pretty nice macro shots, it also works well at all focal lengths from 24 to 70. Just bear in mind you’ll get a lot of bokeh and a very thin focal plane in the bargain too:) Hope that helps! Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👏

Great review! However, I have yet to find someone who discusses how the weight, especially of the Ulanzi, will affect the ZV1 lens. The ZV1 lens mechanism is not designed to leverage such a load at the farthest edge from its anchor point. With the ZV1 lens extended, you'll notice that there is some wiggle to it and the weight of the wide angle lens seems to me that it could damage the mechanism that adjusts the ZV1 lens especially walking around. There seems to be too much torque on the extended lens with the weight of the wide angle lens. Am I missing something?
I have this camera the stabilization sucks it's absolutely horrid even with active steady shot. Sure this add on lens is helpful for getting wider shots but the stabilization is a deal breaker I ONLY use my camera with a gimbal which no longer makes it a pocket camera since you must carry around another big piece of hardware.
Hey Chris, thanks for watching and sharing the insightful comment. I think you’re right that the stabilisation isn’t as good as you would hope for vlogging but I’ve had some decent results with active steadyshot and more relaxed walking. Much quicker and you’re right-it becomes too shaky. I’ve also found using catalyst can give some really good results if you’re ok with the extra work in post production-that mitigates the need for more hardware but causes a different tradeoff. I think Sony in general have some great strengths but stabilisation isn’t their strongest suit (other than the most expensive stuff like the a7s3). I did some testing across all the Sony options and the active steadyshot of the zv1 was actually one of the better performers: th-cam.com/video/Ty2FoHbDff8/w-d-xo.html Any thanks for such an interesting comment, consider subscribing if you like this sort of content and have a great day 👍
If you're that angry about stabilisation you're either a novice who had far too high expectations or you don't know what you're doing; the stabilisation is fine especially if you use Browse in post, and if you're trying to produce something of quality you should be using a gimbal anyway. Good luck finding a camera with gimbal-equalling stabilisation, especially for under £1000.
@@whatwelearned I do have a gimbal with this camera and it's perfectly fine with it but if you don't want to carry a gimbal the stabilization DOES suck and btw I was a pro videographer/photographer in my earlier years for 2 decades so I'm pretty sure I have more experience than you, I even had cameras costing 10's of thousands of $$ but as a hobbyist today this cameras stabilization DOES suck.
@@ChrisDallasDualped Jesus open your eyes. Both ppl mentioned using Catalyst Browse in post. Since you’re unaware - Your camera records gyro data which Sonys free software (catalyst browse) can use the gyro data to stabilize footage to close to gimbal like smoothness. Stop boasting you’re 20 years of experience and listen to what ppl are trying to share with you. ❤️

Hey Sonicultura, great question. Hi, I have the Ulanzi wide lens attached on my Sony ZV1 I am looking to sell the ZV1 now to upgrade my camera and I want to sell the ZV1 without the wide lens fitted to a camera company. As the Ulanzi wide lens is stick on, is it possible to remove the wide lens without damaging the camera? Or will it damaged the lens or leave a mark on it from the sticker? Thanks Carl…
Its probably just me but I find all the text on screen confusing and goes by too fast, I have to focus and orientate (?) to find whats what. Other than that a decent comparison-video.
Received the ulanzi today. Do you have any worries that adding that much weight to the lens barrel will cause long term stress on the motors? I've read that some peor hold 5he camera down when opening the varel and up when closing to let gravity ease the strain. Also orders the zomei. I attach the zv1 on top of an a7 rii so that I can walk around and take videos whilst photographing with family and on outings/vacation. Used to use a rx100 iii. With the zv1, cage, mic and lens, it's going to be quite a weight, so hopefully the zomei will help this compared to the ulanzi, and ease the pressure on the motors a little.
Hey JT, great to hear from you and thanks for flagging the good question. So I do try to tilt the zv1 to let gravity do a bit of the work as you suggest, but I’m around 9 months in using the zv1 with some type of wide lens fairly often and no major issues yet. Ultimately there’s a logic that says extra weight would put a bit more strain on the motors but there’s nothing I’ve seen in real world use so far that has been too concerning, so hopefully that will continue:) Hope you’re doing well and have a great day 👍
Hey Sirmovealot (great name!) the answer will vary with the country you're in and the type of warranty you have, but I'll answer as well as I can. In the UK Sony state that accidental damage or improper handling can void a warranty, however in reality this will come down to interpretation. Putting an attachment on a camera so you can use ND filters, wide lenses etc would seem a pretty normal use given the product and if you ever ran into a problem you could remove the adapter the lens attaches too before sending for repair. So, while I'm no expert n warranty law, I think: Would it definitely void the warranty: No Could someone argue using attachments is improper handling: Maybe Is there a high risk of someone using that argument to void the warranty: No, not in my opinion The other thing to take some comfort from is that the same adapters and and many of the same attachments that work for the ZV-1 have been around for years on Sony RX cameras and I'm not aware of people running in to any issues or Sony advising people not to use them. So I think it's very low risk, but not zero risk. Hope that helps, consider subbing if you like this sort of content and have an awesome day:)
Great vid! Quick question! I have the Ulanzi wide angle and it's currently attached to my sony right now. Is it possible to remove the adapter? Can't seem to find anything on removal.
Hey Kris, thanks for the kind words:) I think there may have been instructions that came with the lens of I remember- think it was along the lines of gently and gradually easing off the adhesive strips - but that’s just from memory. It might be Ulanzi customer service can give you a more official answer:) Afraid I have no plans to remove my so can’t bring any experience to this one! Hey Justin, great to hear from you again:) The in studio stuff is my other camera: Sony A6400 with the Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens. I’ll be doing some comparisons with the ZV1 in a future video but essentially I needed a second camera to film some of the demonstrations I have planned and the advantage of an interchangeable lens one like the A6400 is I could pick up a very fast (low f number) lens and get more of that nice bokeh in the process 😆 Hope that helps, shout if you have any other Qs and have a great day 👍

Hey Polonius, the short answer is no:) Background defocus is just a marketing term for aperture priority mode and the lens will increase field of view but won’t alter the bokeh blur you can achieve. Hey CP, thanks for the kind words:) The only impacts on image quality that I’ve noticed are the ones I mention in the video: The Zomei has some slight distortion/chromatic aberration at the very edge of th image; it also won’t work if you want to zoom in; though if you’re using a wide lens I’d actually suggest removing before you zoom as that will get a closer zoomed in view. The Ulanzi has neither of those issue and seems largely solid on image quality. The only minor thing I noticed was a bit of flaring around light last in low light situations. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 💪👍
Hey Glenn, both lenses require a stick on filter thread attachment. The Ulanzi comes with one; I already had a spearate one I picked up with the Zomei. Both have a 52mm size. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you like the content and have a great weekend:)
Hey Martin, great to hear from you as always:) I was the same: had the Zomei was curious about the Ulanzi but I’m quite happy keeping both given their slightly different strengths. I have no idea about the pronunciation 😆 I stole an idea from an old BBC show called shooting stars to try to style it out haha:)
Does a wide angle lens also widen the frame up and down as well as width? Or is there another lens for the Sony zv1 that will increase the height. Sometimes it cuts my head off in the room where we shoot. I’m tall.
Hey GTN, thought I’d replied to this but clearly not - sorry 😂 The ronin will definitely be powerful enough, I’d just check the minimum weight it’s setup for. The zv1 alone is 294g and some gimbals have a minimum weight of 300,350g etc. you can always add a cage and other accessories to make the zv1 heavier if that looks like an issue. Hey Sebastien, I just picked up the answer to this in your Q on the 7 best value accessories video th-cam.com/video/8II5PMJu5is/w-d-xo.html The quick answer for anyone with a similar question here: I try to respond to how bright conditions are and to preserve the setting I care about, like 1/50 shutter in some situations. Definitely agree about the wider lens, but while I don’t use it super often the zoom is handy at times for different shot compositions and b roll especially. Second time watching this video, great job! Question: will the wide angle lens help with talking head videos in my office/studio? Thanks!
Hey Marten, thanks for watching-especially twice:) I would say for studio stuff it depends entirely on the look you like the most. A wider angle will show more space so if you have an interesting space you want to draw more attention to it can be great. There’s no ‘right or wrong’ here-just preference for a given look.
There’s some examples in my studio settings video which quickly show the different ZV1 settings and use of the wide lens in a studio setting: th-cam.com/video/FjmUIo5Gf-c/w-d-xo.html

Thanks Greg - I saw this having replied to your other comment earlier - my bad! Welcome on board, great to have you:)
Maybe that workaround might help, fingers crossed 🤞, but as you say I have no solution for the non standard thread on the outside.

Hi Vares, Can Hohem istudy multi gimbal balance Sony ZV1 with either of this Wide Angle Lenses?
Your videos are incredible.
From India, with love .

@@dbvares8745 im thinking of Ulanzi :)
I’d love to hear an advice or tips from you 🙏🏼
Hey Jerome, it’s definitely a bit more difficult to balance with the Ulanzi, BUT it definitely works:)
The main tips I have are to put the zv1 as far back as possible on the mounting plate, which will help with the front heaviness of the lens
Also ensure the camera is turned on and can balance facing up towards the ceiling before turning on the gimbal. It’s basically the same method as in this video: th-cam.com/video/zOEyHuCOsu4/w-d-xo.html
The only difference is really the mounting plate thing.
There’s also some brief tips/video of balancing the Zomei lens (same exact principles but slightly lighter) in this vid if some more visual reference is helpful:

Hey DJ F, I’m pretty sure the lens requires both parts together to provide the wide angle view and correct optical quality. I haven’t tried the step up ring solution you suggest so can be sure but most larger lenses have multiple glass lenses inside; remove any one of them and the viewing angle, focus, distortion etc can all get messed up so I definitely would not rely on that step up ring approach working - the 2 elements together give that wide angle view. Hope that helps!

Hi there, thank you for watching and sharing the great question:)
I was a little worried about that initially but I’ve now been using the adapter with lots of different attachments including the wide lens adapters and macro lens kit which is even heavier. One thing that annoys me is the poor magnification ability of the 70mm end of the zv1 lens. Does the Ulanzi included macro lens improve on this, or does it only work at 24mm (which focuses close enough on me)?
Hey Rudy, sorry for the slow reply - I didn’t get a notification for this comment so only seeing now I sweep up things I haven’t replied to!

Came for the excellent reviews, stayed for the jokes. Subbed. Thank you.

Nice work past Dave!
Thanks Emsziee and glad you didn’t give any credit to that idiot Future Dave...
I did some testing across all the Sony options and the active steadyshot of the zv1 was actually one of the better performers: th-cam.com/video/Ty2FoHbDff8/w-d-xo.html
Any thanks for such an interesting comment, consider subscribing if you like this sort of content and have a great day 👍
If you're that angry about stabilisation you're either a novice who had far too high expectations or you don't know what you're doing; the stabilisation is fine especially if you use Browse in post, and if you're trying to produce something of quality you should be using a gimbal anyway.

Hi DB which one of these two lens do you say is the best? I’ve leaned towards Ulanzi because it still gives a wider angle without sacrificing quality.
I’d say that’s right TH, the Ulanzi is overall the one I pick up most often.
Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👍
so, with the ULANZI adapter, it can still zoom as the way from 16mm - 50mm , right?
Do you think they work on Sony RX100MKV as well? Thanks!!
Hey Sonicultura, great question. Hi, I have the Ulanzi wide lens attached on my Sony ZV1
I am looking to sell the ZV1 now to upgrade my camera and I want to sell the ZV1 without the wide lens fitted to a camera company.
Ultimately there’s a logic that says extra weight would put a bit more strain on the motors but there’s nothing I’ve seen in real world use so far that has been too concerning, so hopefully that will continue:)
Hope you’re doing well and have a great day 👍
@@dbvares8745 Thank you.
Do you have any idea if we apply the ulanzi wide lens on Sony ZV1 , does it voids the camera warranty ? Please do revert if possible . Thank you !
So, while I'm no expert n warranty law, I think:
Would it definitely void the warranty: No
Could someone argue using attachments is improper handling: Maybe
Is there a high risk of someone using that argument to void the warranty: No, not in my opinion
The other thing to take some comfort from is that the same adapters and and many of the same attachments that work for the ZV-1 have been around for years on Sony RX cameras and I'm not aware of people running in to any issues or Sony advising people not to use them.
So I think it's very low risk, but not zero risk. Hope that helps, consider subbing if you like this sort of content and have an awesome day:)

OMG did I see a Kenyan coin ? I’m so happy you got that ! That’s my home !!!!!
Hey Mark that’s awesome:) Yeah I went and did some volunteering in Nairobi in 2019 doing some music teaching in school. Feels so long ago with all the travel restrictions and things in the uk now!
I really loved the place, super nice people, amazing nature and tasty food:)
Hope you found the vid helpful too and consider subscribing if you like this sort of content, but mainly thanks for making my day by refreshing a really nice memory 😁
Have a great day too 👍
Just Found this Video & the ULANZI WL-1 is out of stock / Unavailable , do you know any other lens adapters that are available / in stock for the ZV-1 ..??
Brilliant humor! Like the vid msn
Appreciate the kind feedback CL:)

I guess the item from your link in the description doesn't sell to the US?
Hey Steph, that might well be the case - I had hoped Amazon would either ship or redirect but it sounds like that's not the case. I think this (non-affiliate) link should work in the US though: www.ulanzi.com/collections/for-sony-zv1/products/ulanzi-wl-1-zv1-wide-angle-additional-lens-for-cameras?variant=37764928700609

Any fisheye Elena recommendations for the Sony zv1?
Is it possible to screw the zomei into the ulanzi adapter? Thanks for these reviews too, helped a lot with my recent purchases and setup
The jokes never stop. Keep up the great videos. You remind me of Jarald undone
Thanks FXB, kind words like that make my day and help a lot with motivation:) Plus as far as comparisons to other channels go his is one of my favourites so I’ll take that as a big win:)

@@dbvares8745 I for sure subscribed to you. I had to because I know u will keep making great vids. I just can't believe u just have less than 400 subs. Just keep doing what your doing. I have a channel about food and travel. I hope we can collab even though we may be different content. Are u in uk right now?
FXB, so sorry for the delayed response - day job has been hectic and so my reply game has suffered a bit. So definitely up for some kind of collab, sounds fun, and yep stuck in the UK (for better or worse haha!). Your channel is great, just took a look and subbed. You've got a really great refreshing energy in presenting and it's the kind of thing I could easily imagine as relaxation TV (the way I used to watch stuff like man vs food haha!)
And big congrats on passing 10k - only people who are doing this realise the work and dedication that takes, so big respect!
Damn I'm so envious of travel and itching to go somewhere again now haha - it used to be a regular thing I'd try to do at least 5 new countries each year.
If you fancy working out a collab some way down the line hit me up at dbvaresmedia@gmail.com - it would be a pleasure.
Take care and have an awesome weekend wherever you are!
Привет! это видео было снято в 1080p? не могу понять, почему на твоей съемке качество видео хуже чем у других блогеров снимающих на sony zv-1.
does the wide angle lens impact the background defocus feature?
Hey Polonius, the short answer is no:) Background defocus is just a marketing term for aperture priority mode and the lens will increase field of view but won’t alter the bokeh blur you can achieve.
There’s a deep dive on zv1 bokeh that may be if interest here: th-cam.com/video/PfDZs2Zkfq0/w-d-xo.html
And an explainer of the different video modes in case you aren’t familiar with stuff like aperture priority here: th-cam.com/video/U5mn2LQeL20/w-d-xo.html

Hey, thanks for this comparison. Can you please tell, is using any of these wide lenses affect the image quality in any way?
Hey CP, thanks for the kind words:) The only impacts on image quality that I’ve noticed are the ones I mention in the video:
The Zomei has some slight distortion/chromatic aberration at the very edge of th image; it also won’t work if you want to zoom in; though if you’re using a wide lens I’d actually suggest removing before you zoom as that will get a closer zoomed in view.
The Ulanzi has neither of those issue and seems largely solid on image quality. The only minor thing I noticed was a bit of flaring around light last in low light situations. Hope that helps!
Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 💪👍
@@dbvares8745 Thank you so much, that's was really helpful.😊
No trouble, happy to help:) if you find you have other Qs just comment the relevant vid and I’ll do best to help. Have a great day 💪
Is there a front filter thread? What's the sizes for each?
Hey Glenn, both lenses require a stick on filter thread attachment. The Ulanzi comes with one; I already had a spearate one I picked up with the Zomei. Both have a 52mm size.
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you like the content and have a great weekend:)
Great info. I already have the Zomei so it was interesting to see a comparison. I don't know how these names are pronounced as well . Lol
I’m tall.
5 stars rewiew. 5:39 so nice
Thank you brother
Hii, does Sony zv1 work with Dji ronin s gimbal? Please let me know
Hey GTN, thought I’d replied to this but clearly not - sorry 😂 The ronin will definitely be powerful enough, I’d just check the minimum weight it’s setup for. The zv1 alone is 294g and some gimbals have a minimum weight of 300,350g etc. you can always add a cage and other accessories to make the zv1 heavier if that looks like an issue.
Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👍
@@dbvares8745 haha, i had crane m2 gimbal for sony zv1 and later I purchased sony a7iii and ronin s gimbal. So I thought ronin s would work both for zv1 and a7iii so i sold the crane m2 but l couldn’t balance the zv1 with ronin s at all😂😂now i am considering buying it again lol
Do you recommend sony zv1 for the beginner filmmakers?
This is the only problem with the ZV-1, the crop on ACTIVE is too harsh. This lense looks like it fixes this.
Hey Jeff, I think that’s a great summary, the wide lenses mitigate that one significant weakness quite well:) Thanks for watching and the solid insight, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 😁👍
What are the setting options when you export bc this looks soo good
Hey TNLC, thanks for the kind words:) Nothing crazy on the settings: I use the highest quality 4K and 1080p options in camera, edit in final cut and export in standard h.264. When I start getting better at being organised I intend to use less compressed output formats which should hopefully improve things further:)
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have an awesome weekend 👍
love ur videos so good... love both past and future Dave....lol

Hey thanks for this video! You are rather entertaining haha. I need one of these because I ruined a video being on active and being so damn close to my face haha.
Thanks OOX (I’m guessing that’s the best abbreviation 😆) really appreciate you watching and the kind feedback:)
I figure just because something is technical it doesn’t have to be dry, right? Whether my sense of humour is terrible or not is a different question haha
Fully agree with the whole ‘giant face’ blog issue you can get with the ZV1. It’s a great camera but unless you have insane arms I’d say a selfie stick or wide lens is needed for the vlog life.
Thanks and have an awesome day 👍💪
@@dbvares8745 yup or xram both work! You're content is great and I hope to see more! I'm new to filming like this, usually only did motovlogs, so I have a good bit to learn to really improve my content. So little experience with cameras like these there's a learning curve. But luckily there's youtube and people like you!
Thanks xram, you are too kind but I’ll certainly take the compliment:) Plenty more planned and if you have any Qs or suggestions on things which would be helpful I’ll do my best in answers or future vids:) Take it easy 👍💪
So which one should i buy🥴 zomei or ulanzi?? Please helppp
Hey Ell, if you don’t mind a bit of extra cost and extra weight I recommend the Ulanzi; if you only need a wide view and want something cheaper and lighter I’d say Zomei. I still use both from time to time but it’s increasingly the Ulanzi I pick up. Hope that helps:)

I've been told to lengthen some parts of my body that are not quite so long 🤭
Same Red, I try not to think about it too much;) 😂
Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👍
BUT what is this 52mm adapter required to use the zomei? do you have a link?
Hey Jeff, limited Internet just now so can’t check but it should be linked in the description, it’s by a brand called Profezzion (or a similar spelling)
Best if Sony just installs a wider angle lens in the next version of this camera, then I'll buy one.
I think that would be an ideal upgrade for a zv2, totally agree!
Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👏
Good stuff, mate.
Thank you BR, much appreciated 👍👏
When you install you external nd filter do you turn off your internal nd filter???
Hey Sebastien, I just picked up the answer to this in your Q on the 7 best value accessories video th-cam.com/video/8II5PMJu5is/w-d-xo.html
The quick answer for anyone with a similar question here: I try to respond to how bright conditions are and to preserve the setting I care about, like 1/50 shutter in some situations. So I can use the variable ND on its own or in combination with the built in one depending on how bright the scene I’m shooting is.
Thanks for watching and take it easy 👍
Hello! When shooting slow motion video 120fps, autofocus works or not? Thanks in advance

I have both lenses and the zomei did come with an adapter 👍
Ah that’s cool Kiwi, where did you buy from? I couldn’t find anywhere that sold like that in the uk (it was just the lens alone for the Zomei), but I guess it may differ in other places:)
Thanks for watching either way and consider subbing if you enjoyed! Have a great day 👍
I've had the zomei a couple months or so..Think I got it on amazon.. The description didn't say anything about the adapter, it was in the packaging with the lens 🙂 Could've been a mistake on their part lol
Haha it’s a good result either way:) Mine was Amazon too, so it sounds a bit random, but a win is a win 👏
@@dbvares8745 agreed lol
Anyone here tried use any of this filter on a telezoom lens? If yes, how it works?
Hey Luhã, I’ve never tried a telephoto attachment I’m afraid, hopefully someone reading here might have:) Is there a particular product you’re considering?
Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 💪
@@dbvares8745 I'm planning to use on my Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX OS HSM. I use on a Nikon D5300. Nowever, the crop factor affects my workflow a lot. That's why I'm considering use this filter.
How long does it take for you come up with those witty similes? 😎 I have sitting for at least 47 seconds I have failed miserably to come up with one.
It’s usually the 48 seconds point Paul, one of those bizarre logarithmic relationships;)
The real answer: not sure; I’ve always enjoyed abstract humour and wordplay and I spent a while working in retail, which was intellectually dry enough I started coming up with stupid random thoughts to entertain myself. Sadly it’s now a hardwired habit 😂
Great to see you and hope you’re doing well 👍
@@dbvares8745 Well, all of that retail boredom escape is paying off now. All is well here in Kyoto, Japan. :)
Can you use any filters with this lens?

Ulanzi better
Hey Mukhlis, I think that’s exactly right unless at is a really big concern:)

Thats me off to Amazon and buying the Ulanzi. You've got to stop doing this, its costing me a fortune. (used your affiliate link too :D )
Haha thanks Martin, doubly appreciate the kind words and the support:) The wide lens is very handy especially for arms length vlogging, but if you’re just getting started I’d say avoid the temptation to get too much gear (other than stuff you’re sure you’ll use of course!) as technique and practice will still give you the biggest gains in your results:)

I don't think anybody uses the zoom on the ZV-1. The ZV-2 would do well with a 16 or 20mm pancake prime.
Definitely agree about the wider lens, but while I don’t use it super often the zoom is handy at times for different shot compositions and b roll especially. Some of my favourite bokeh results came from being fully zoomed in as you can see here:
th-cam.com/video/PfDZs2Zkfq0/w-d-xo.html
Separately, pancake prime is an excellent phrase:)
