On November 18th, Dr. Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber hosted a live event which featured the release of the updated Scrum Guide. Celebrating 25 years of Scrum, they were joined by expert panelists to review the changes and discuss its impacts.
    Session details and starting points:
01:15 - Opening Remarks from Scrum co-creators Dr. Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber.

Scrum is the lightweight framework for solving complex problems. Today, Scrum is being applied in more industries than ever before and the term “Scrum” is now seen on job descriptions around the globe.
We have seen Scrum build rocket ships, deliver construction projects on time and under budget and rethink HR departments to be more people-oriented. Scrum accelerates teams, gets projects to done and new products to consumers.
Have you used Scrum in a unique setting or surprising way? How has Scrum changed your work or your life? We encourage you to share your Scrum story. Simply record a brief video (one minute or less) and post your story on social media. Use the hashtag #Scrum25.

A solid update that will prove invaluable in helping shepard teams back to Scrum! Scrum is often seen as something that can be adapted in any way, and still be called Scrum. This really helps keep the OG aligned and mentor the newcomers to SCrum.

very good informative and refresher on the history of Scrum. Today Scrum is like a synonym for Agile. I am looking forward for changes to the word 'Developers'. It is a very confusing term due to the general industry standard meaning to mean the people who write the code. As the focus of Scrum guide is to avoid confusion and eliminate argument after argument.

I'd recommend reading some material on Robert Greenleaf's work on Servant Leadership - He is the inventor of the concept and what he describes completely aligns with what ScrumMasters should be, and not how Ken and Jeff are presenting it vs their rugby captain metaphor. I would bring out James Sipe and Don Frick in "The Seven Pillars of Servant Leadership" work where they describe them as being Persons of Character and exercising Moral Authority. Having personal convictions, behavior consistent with convictions. A persuasive life, Maintain integrity, Demonstrate humility, Serve a higher purpose than themselves. The captain metaphor brings far too much incorrect baggage than it adds. ScrumMasters are NOT Developer++. Kent Keith in "The Case for Servant Leadership" talks about SL's being about "Changing the Pyramid." - and being transformative change agents. Servant Leader needs to be understood before people discard it. Servant confused some people but TRUE will confuse many more.

The guide becomes more flexible, yet less specific. For young teams when they want "tell me how it should work" the notion "team decides" could be counter productive. THis mean that Scrum Masters should become more mature to handle the process in its variaty of scenarious. The Role of Scrum master has changed. It is good all three service lines are mentioned, but some changes made this work more vague. The definition of Scrum Team and Dev Team has gone - not it is one team.
Mature teams will definetely like this guide.
Still, I like a lot of things about the new guide.
    - it is departed from IT, and now is applicable directly to any industry
    - the introduction of the Goal is very good thing
    - the very notion of Scrum being the source of change, thus not responding to uncertainty in re-active way, but generating a needed level of change to adapt better and quicker to reality

At 01:59:30 Jeff talks about the one question Scott Downy introduced that got teams to be 5 times as productive in a couple of months. He refered to the Shock Therapy paper. Looking into the Shock Therapy paper it says nothing about it though. Is there some other paper/webpage about the one question approach and it's results?

What are we now supposed to do for Daily scrum...How do we discuss our updates...Can we still continue with the 3 questions..if not what can we use...

    • @ScrumInc
      @ScrumInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If it is useful, keep using the 3 questions. The Developers (anybody working on the sprint increment) can select whatever structure and techniques they want, as long as their Daily Scrum
focuses on progress toward the Sprint Goal and produces an actionable plan for the next day of work.

18:03 that's Marx's theory of alienation. To make other people more wealthy, like CTO's, share holders, that's the only goal that has ever existed. But if someone needs to sugarcoat it by giving sprints a divine "goal" or the company a "purpose" then you are just bullshitting yourself.
