  • The Worksman Cycles PAV3 Stretch Electric Trike is a heavy duty electric tricycle capable of carrying up to 550 lbs including the rider and cargo, large metal basket in the rear for transporting gear and the charger. Durable 500 watt motor paired with a 48 volt battery pack encased in Aluminum for added protection, this electric trike operates smoothly and quietly, it offers reverse mode too. Programmable top speed (up to 20 mph), large easy to read display panel and simple button pad for changing power level, offers cadence sensing pedal assist and twist throttle operation. A bit more expensive at $2,198 plus $350 shipping but it arrives fully assembled, weak front brake but the coaster brake is solid, heavier build at ~128 lbs but the battery is removable.

    Nice trike at reasonble price. Lower seat than typical trike means it will be more stable in turns making it less inclinded to tip over. Much more visible than typical recumbent trike on roads. Looks a winner.

    I wish I had seen this before I purchased my Liberty Trike. I much prefer this. I'm 74 and would much prefer sitting in a seat like this rather than sitting higher tettering on a bicycle seat. This is also much cheaper than getting a recumbent trike. Liberty should also sell a trike like this.

    I have the non stretch older version. The bike is tough, but there are SEVERAL problems with the bike. They do not paint the back axel so it rusts. All the chrome is REALLY cheap and rusts within the first year. While the bike does support 550 pounds the seat back just does not feel like it will. Luckily there are threaded holes in the back of the seat. I put aluminum flat bar as braces from the seat back into the basket and attacked to the basket frame. I did not have to drill any holes in the bike. I have had it for about 5 years now. The sprocket broke off the Shamon 3 speed shifter after about 2 years. I had a muffler shop weld it back on for $10. The shifter cable is splitting at the shifter control now and starting to stick. Also the breaks are not the best. They likely will not stop a 550 pound person going down a moderate hill. The front breaks especially are very weak. The back breaks are much stronger, but when going down that hill be careful because one wheel in the back free spins so the break is only on one side. The bike will jerk to the side if you hit the break hard. At 20mph that was one heck of a scary ride.
    Also the nuts holding the back wheels on have to be crazy tight or the bearing will make a horrible squeaking/grinding noise as the axel is not perfectly tight inside the bearing. I thought the bearing itself had failed and got another to find the same problem. After greasing it and doing everything I could think of I tightened the snot out of it and fixed it. If you are even close to 6 foot and overweight... get the stretch. They say the non stretch will fit me, but the seat is centered over the back axel too much and I hit a 2 inch bump on a sidewalk while in first and pedaling hard to slowly go over it. Well it flipped the bike over backwards. Luckily I caught my little dog that was in a front basket and did not hit my head on the cement. The chain comes off easy if it gets loose and it is a PAIN to tighten do to the jack shaft. It is also a pain to adjust the shifter.
    The tires are nice. The tread still looks new, but it is pretty hard to find a tube for it. Sadly I got a hole in my back time. I had ordered a spare a could of years ago, but I figured I would just patch it... which I did. The problem is I found there was ALREADY a patch on the tire. They patched it at the factory as I ordered the bike directly from Worksman (which took something like 8 months when it was supposed to be 4-6).
    I do not have straps on mine, but I love the seat. It is like a regular seat. When you stop to say watch a parade or something you just sit on you comfy seat. Since it is the normal height of a chair it is VERY easy to get up out of it. The hardest problem is stepping over the center frame. Being fat and old with a bad back... means I really need something to hold onto next to the bike like a bike rack to help me get out of it.
    If you mount a normal bike light it has to sit on the handlebar and shine through the front of the bike leaving lots of shadows. I put a large basket on the front so it is almost useless. I actually mount a flashlight on each side of the basket. Those strap on rechargeable lights do not hold on the basket in back and that is really the only place they can mount to. I also got a battery powered strip of color chasing LED lights that were rubber incased and run those across the back and up the flag pole (that has a marine size American flag on it). With 2 2500 lumens lights on the front and the LED lights cycling through chasing colors, not only can I see well at night, but everybody can see me.
    The biggest problem with the odd handlebars is you CAN NOT LET GO. They will instantly flop all the way to one side. The turning radius sucks too. Also if you hit the stops that limit how far the handlebars can turn to each side you will likely knock the adjustment off center really easy. That long handlebar gives you a lot of leverage against the small nut holding it down.
    The bike is also heavy. I used to go MUCH faster on my old upright 2 wheel bike. Between that, the gearing, and the fat tires... it is just not make for speed.
    With my weight in the bake the front tire would likely spin a lot on an electric one. I would also want a large front sprocket if I had electric otherwise you can not pedal assist past about 10 mph. They are geared more for low speed too much.

    In the motorcycle trike world, we call that type of steering, 'tiller bar' steering. For sharp, low speed left turns, you simply move your right hand to the left grip, or vice versa for right turns.

    Trikes are an ideal path for e-bike acceptability. They should arrange a
    demo for the Senior community. Benefits abound for the homebound: Even
    the physically limited can get out and about with a shopping basket in
    back. Social fun and smiles await.
    (no excuse for not including wired in lights!)

    Could this trike be purchased from etrikes without the stretch option? I know that Worksman makes both versions(stretch PAV and regular PAV). As a petite woman (5'1") I am afraid that even with an adjustable seat, I wouldn't be able to reach pedals when fully extended.

    Hi, I have a few questions about this bike. What is the range? how much weight can you put in back basket without the front wheel rising? Also, does this bike have a "creep" mode where you don't have to pedal or use the throttle assist to move?
    Thanks!

    I found an older Worksman side by side double trike that I'm modifying. I'm struggling with the small 20" wheel in the front. (it feels stout but too responsive in steering, too jerky at cruising speed.) I replaced the front forks to accommodate a 26" wheel. Now I'm struggling with the high amount of toque and live physics applied to the (bent forward so as to not hit your feet on the peddles) front forks in the turns. I wish Worksman had a beefy set of bent forks to accommodate this 26" wheel upgrade. My hope is to add a 26" front wheel e hub to help pull this heavy beast. Well, fun project anyways! Cheers!

    What is the top speed? At the Worksman Cycles website, it states it is 10mph. That seems a little too slow. 15 or 20 would be better. - Also, does anyone know a dealer on the West Coast? I would need to ride one before I buy.

      Michael Workinger why? it would be a side tipping hazard in tight turns then. the motor is pretty heavy, the frame is heavy. i mean if you have 200 lbs in the rear basket going up a pisser of a hill, it could be a problem, but otherwise this is gonna stay on the ground. if it was rear powered, that would be a problem for sure, but as is it seems pretty stable.

    • @arrowstheorem1881
      @arrowstheorem1881 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yulian Baskoro If its patented in USA and you copy it, even if for personal consumption, its infringement. From what you said, i deduce its patented.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Yulian! I think your first response was fairly accurate, if you make something for personal use it's unlikely that you'd be sued... and there are many ways around design patents, just avoid using the company's logo and branding so there's not a trademark issue. The likelihood that a company would come after one person for mimicking their product is extremely low, especially if it's not challenging their business. Some companies mimic each other and copy good designs (Pedego's early bikes positioned the pedals forward a bit which violates Electra's "flat foot" patent and this went on for years before they had to change it). See this 2013 Pedego cruiser: electricbikereview.com/pedego/2013-24-step-thru-comfort-cruiser/ vs. the Electra Townie Go: electricbikereview.com/electra/2013-townie-go/ and then Pedego responds in 2014 by moving the pedals back towards the seat tube: electricbikereview.com/pedego/2014-step-thru-comfort-cruiser/ but they are still in business today and both companies seem to be doing alright (Electra was acquired by Trek)

    • @arrowstheorem1881
      @arrowstheorem1881 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ElectricBikeReview.com The law is clear. Its not maybe or possibly. As long as you copy it for personal use, its infringement. But yes, unlikely to be sued but you can be sued since there is infringement. so, copy but modify it.

    • @ForbinColossus
      @ForbinColossus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are not at all clear on the law. Buying parts and putting them together like this is not at all illegal. It is only infringing if average consumer would be confused in the marketplace, i.e., you would be in business selling a knockoff.
