    Today I’m onboard Swiss International Airlines First Class, in their suites. Flying from Zurich, Switzerland all the way over to Dubai. Given that I’ve now flown Air France La Premiere, Lufthansa First Class and British Airways First, this is the last European First Class to complete the set - and will offer a valuable comparison in todays trip report. This product is flown exclusively onboard the Airbus A330, with the newest suites offered on retrofitted Boeing 777s and Airbus A340s.
    It goes without saying this is one expensive product to fly, costing upwards of $5,000 so expectations for this are high. I’ll showcase to you the ground experience, such as Mercedes S Class transfers, the lounge but also my gripes with Hon Circle status…. showcased on my previous Swiss Business Class flight over to Zurich. I’ll be reviewing the experience in-depth on board, including the food, drink, service, bedding and the amenity kit. As always let me know what you think down below and what other products you’d like to see on my channel in the future.

      " to inconvenience paying passengers for you aren’t we so awesome"
      Well to even become a HON Circle member you need to earn 600,000 Status Credits in 2 years.
      A flight from Zurich to JFK in First Class with Swiss will earn you 11,728 one way.
      They are spending well into 7 figure territory with a company, better than some person flying on a 1 time 2,000 USD flight for someone paying in the millions.
      I can see why the perk is justifiable, but I can guarantee you its stupidly impossible to get unless if you are flying First Class every second.

    • @ThePockyJocky

      The problem is that it doesn't matter that someone can pay so much to get a massive privilege, you shouldn't be more important than someone who has waited half a year and paid the same amount for the ticket. Membership be damned. It's an entitled, ruler-class rich thing to do. If I'm saving up to take a once in a lifetime trip and some unprepared prick can just force me into a different seat and I'm not given some sort of compensation, that is morally objectionable. Call me a communist but these are the type of privileged people that deserve to be hated by the people they are exploiting.
      The fact that you have to be so incredibly rich in order to earn this privilege makes it worse, not better.

    I remember flying home through Frankfurt from Stockholm with Lufthansa. I was supposed to be seated in row 1 as I was just out of hospital and still had stitches in my abdomen. When I boarded at Frankfurt my seat had been reassigned. I was given a window seat in the back row. Not practical when you've been cut open from chest to waist. I got a frosty response from the FA when I complained, until I lifted my T-shirt. All I wanted was an aisle seat for ease of access. There were empty seats on the flight and I got an aisle seat, but I had to sit at window until the plane took off. Not a happy experience with Lufthansa considering they knew in advance that I was travelling.

    The E gates F lounge is significantly nicer than the lounge you were in: and the private bedrooms are by far the best I've ever encountered in an airline lounge, with an incredibly comfortable bed: worth a deliberately long transfer! The only thing missing in the bedroom is a desk. There are only two of them.
    The whisky bar is impressive for its huge selection, but I'm not a big whisky drinker so it's not my cup of tea really.
    The F&B offering in the E gates lounge is similarly lacklustre to your experience, but the dining and bar areas do have a more pleasant view.
    I've never had a proper limo transfer at ZRH on Swiss, it's always been the minibus.
    Personally speaking, I don't rate either the food or wine particularly strongly onboard Swiss F at all, but on the plus side the cabin crew in F have always been very pleasant IME. It's also quite common for the captain to come round and say hello to the pax in F.

      Thanks for sharing your experience Nezbrun. I was disappointed to find the E gates were still closed, the beds alone I'm told feature $20,000 mattresses. I wonder what it takes to get the proper limo transfer, presumably a deserted flight.
      Agreed, crew were fantastic. I actually flew this product back from Dubai yesterday (non review flight) and the captain came out to greet F pax, such a great touch and not had that happen before on other F flights. Thanks for watching

    I used to fly Swiss as a kid, wonderful airline, great service, then of course it all went to hell and the new Swiss was born.I flew them a number of times back in 2019, a customer decided I was worth full fare first for all my flights, I think the total was just north of $175k ! The one thing that stood out to me was how wonderfully inconsistent Swiss was. The cabin crews were all great, ground staff in ZUR were almost great, but I loved the airport itself. The main issue was the food, okay soapbox rant time....There is zero reason why a cabin of 8 people cannot get their first choice of food, yes there will be waste, yes the crew will get to eat some great food, but more importantly, the customer that is paying $1000 an hour to fly on your plane and has a choice of any airline they want should not have to even think about having to take a second choice. At that price point the extra, the cost to an airline per plate (meaning 3-4 courses) is around $50, excluding booze, 8 passengers, 3 choices of each course, $1200.....Of course, you can always go the route most airlines are going now and have the customer pre-select the meals, just make sure you load them...Looking at you BA :-)

    12yrs ago I got to fly Zurich to Berlin with Swiss Air and the staff were amazing. There were only 20 people on-board (half of those were part of our university group), the crew sat with us, we got croissants and other pastries for breakfast and a complimentary bar of Toblerone. It was only economy class, but larger seats than I've been in on other airlines and very comfy.
    Only downside was the 1hr delay due to ice, but that wasn't the Airlines fault.
    The rest of our trip (Melbourne to Singapore, Singapore to Zurich, London to Singapore and Singapore to Melbourne, were with Singapore Airlines.) Ive also flown Qantas, BA, Jetstar, EasyJet and RyanAir in the past.

    I've never tried the champagne in the video, so forgive me if this comes off wrong - but some cheaper champagne is of higher quality than most. For example champagne from the second oldest chateau in Champagne costs roughly 33% less than Bollinger or Moet. It's also significantly better. I wouldn't value champagne on exclusivity or price, but rather on quality.

    • @MDL-lw9my
      @MDL-lw9my 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Grower Champagne (the champagne is produced by the owner of the vines/terroir as opposed to a large house that purchases grapes from the grower) is marvelous and in most instances provides an equal or superior product for a better price.

    • @flylikelinz
      @flylikelinz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even growers and independents/coops etc follow the standard definitions of quality as the big houses follow. Champagnes such as prestige Cuvee or grande Cuvee *which is the definition of Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle) are the best of the best for the house.... usually followed by a vintage, then a standard NV. Bollinger and Moet are typical NV and I am sure you can find many many growers who produce much better wines especially when it comes to Moet brut. if you try LPGS and just compare it to a standard NV LP you can see the quality difference by a factor of 10 and in the case of moet it would be a factor of 50 :P.... Try a Dom Perignon compared to an NV Moet, the difference is like night and day in quality.

    • @Trektrendy
      @Trektrendy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And you're totally correct in this. But i'm comparing this directly to other First Class lounges, and this does not compete with what customers anticipate (relative to ticket price). I'd expect Swiss to have the likes of Krug, LPGS or Dom P. well renowned for quality, not just a price tag. Given that they serve LPGS onboard, i'm positive that it's down to cutting costs above anything else.

      To be fair, I flew 14 first flights with Swiss back in 2019 and each had a separate bridge for first, be it at LAX-SFO or ZUR, even big airports like ZUR have a limited number of gates, heck i've flown BA first and been loaded on to a bus with business class passengers (I don't care btw), it happens, should it ? probably not, but in the grand scheme of things it's minor.

    So I flew coach from Chicago to Zurich back in 2009 and even the food they serve in coach is not all that bad. I've had worse and the SwissAir food wasn't terrible. Of course it was "microwaved" meals but from what I was told, they make them "fresh" at most a few days prior, so they aren't like frozen dinners that have been prepped and frozen for weeks by the time you get them (the ones you may find at the grocery store). The meals weren't huge, but enough for the 8 hour flight I was on (you got dinner, dessert, a snack I believe, and then a light breakfast (dinner was served around 8pm, as the plane took off at 7pm Chicago time), then I think they offered a snack around 10pm and then dinner was at what would have been about 7am Swiss time (or about 12am Chicago time I think but this is harder to determine due to the flight time and time zone changes so when you arrive in Switerland it was like 9am the next morning, but really still 3am Chicago time). I think with the time change I had a hard time sleeping because I wasn't used to going to sleep at 9pm really, and then having to get up basically at 3am (even though it was 9/10am Swiss time). Flying back wasn't as bad, but being in the air, all "day" with daylight was problematic (couldn't sleep, and the return flight took about 1-2 hours longer I think since we were going west, but we boarded at 9am Swiss time (so 2am Chicago time), and arrived back at 5pm Chicago time, so it was daylight the entire trip whereas on the trip out, I think it was dark for about 6 of the 8 hours we were in the air (since I went in November, it was already dark when the plane took off at 7pm Chicago time).

    Good review and insightful content as usual. Caught the comment about Amex Lounges being better abroad. There are a number of pretty decent ones stateside as well, including the location at JFK T4.

    Holy crap. I'm nervous now about the hon member stuff possibly downgrading me now. So I'm going to Switzerland next year from San Fran and I'm hoping this hon circle stuff doesn't come up bc I want to fly first on the flight. Does this hon circle bumping occur on international trips?

    Good review, as usual. I am always happy to see a new vlog from you. I follow quite a few aviation vloggers and you have become my favorite. I appreciate your honesty and objectivity. Your sense of humor is just an additional perk for me. Take care and have a pleasant and rewarding week. 👍🤗❤🛫🙏🌎

    Quick Tip: Check your GoPro settings…there’s a way to minimize the flickering from fluorescent lights.

    12:20 running out of any food item is not acceptable in first class. With the price of first class tickets, they can afford to overcater. The crew can eat any excess.

    I LOVE Swiss Air! Love how spartan their decor is, and how great the food is. I dreamt of their cheese plate for days after my flight. Emirates is cool for a decadent experience, but Swiss decor is less busy and feels a bit more peaceful somehow? I like them both, just for different reasons.

    I'm really curious what would happen if you outright refused to move for the HON member. It seems mental that they have a service that allows people to get someone else's seat.

    Another informative vlog today. It brought up a question and a comment...When you mentioned the HON club and the ability to bump other passengers is this only on European carriers? Your comment regarding clothing worn by business/first class. The 2 times I have managed to fly business was an eye opener with the full run of attire. Be comfortable. Looking forward to your next flight.

    So can the Hon members actually have you moved out of say first class even though you paid for the full fare and bought it say months to even a year in advance? If so that is crazy and if they broke up a family or couple I think I'd be having words with Swiss CEO and don't care how 'busy' he/she/they are.

    Very good review, certainly a very pleasant way to travel. Appreciate the insight as to how a member of HON Circle could bump another flier. I agree with you, completely unacceptable. I'm fine with frequent fliers getting perks to reward their loyalty, but that doesn't mean they should be allowed to kick out another passenger who's already planned ahead and paid for their seat. Not only is that unacceptable for the passenger, it also burdens the staff who must deal with a justifiably irate passenger.

    They didn’t pick you up planeside? Last time I flew Swiss first through Zurich a very kind agent had my name on a placard planeside, took me in a car directly to passport control and then the first class lounge, then took me in a car from the lounge to my connecting flight.
