    A whole lot of people seem to be having problems with the LiteRadio. That's really disappointing. This is always the big issue with recommending a BetaFPV product. When they are good, they can be very good, but then somebody at the factory falls asleep, and quality goes down. If BetaFPV manages to get their quality back up, the LiteRadio will be a solid buy for $40. But it seems like it might be better to give it a pass right now.

      Hey JB, great video as always, may I ask you the question (since you used both for a long period): Would you swap over from a X9D SE (Carbon) with Tracer to a Tango 2 or Tx16s Max (or even normal)? I am a thumber and I have never flown a tx16s and I guess I am somewhat fine with my x9d, but if money wasnt problem, is it worth all the said benefits to go buy the tx16s? Would love to get an answer form you this day, since its 11.11 :D
      Happy flying!

      Yeah, that's why I've never bought a BetaFPV product in the nearly 4 years I've been in the hobby! Too many complaints, issues with this or that, poor designs, burning
      up this component, shitty reviews, etc, etc, etc. There always seems to be some reason I've chosen something else! They really need to tighten up the quality control, or somethin'! 😩

      I saw the poor reviews but just bought the Literadio 2 anyway as an upgrade to the Tinyhawk rtf kit radio- gigantic upgrade, good quality, couldn’t be happier.
      Thanks for this video as a beginner I’ve been debating myself between the RM and the Tango II and this video was great for breaking down the key differences.

    Radiomaster and Jumper are basically the same radio, except the internal cables. In that case Radiomaster had the advantage of learning from Jumpers mistakes before release. The supply of new cables and other upgradable parts was really quick and affordable as credit towards Jumper.

    For me X9D Plus SE 2019 with the Crossfire Micro TX is my choice.. It not big like Radio master and I like that. I think the combo is just so clean and the X9D is such a good reliable radio with all the functions I need. Combined with CF I'm set to fly anywhere anytime.

    I actually just got my Tango 2. I didn't feel like I needed one because my Taranis has never let me down but I ended up wanting smaller to reduce bag space. I could not be happier with this thing! I fly a mix of pinch and thumb depending on my mood and I thought it was a little off pinched but could still do it fine. I just changed to the clear case and decided to get the ummagrip tape for it. It is so bloody stuck in my hands now and pinching feels 100 times better now. That tape is worth every penny on the Tango 2!

    I've had my Frsky QX7 for nearly 4 years. Updated the Gimbals long ago, and it's a great radio. I still have several XM+ and R-XSR receivers, but I ditched my R9 gear, used it on the Crossfire Exchange program, and completely converted over to Crossfire! Sent them my R9 module and 7 R9 receivers, got their full 50% trade in, and ended up with the new V2 module and 5 receivers for $100 shipped! Couldn't ask for a better deal or a better system! Solid as a rock and I'll never look back or at any Frsky receivers, and their INCREDIBLY FOOLISH change over to ACCESS and the confusion and rock solid domination of the radio and receiver category they had and have obviously lost, every again! Frsky has got to be hurting with they're stupid move of total confusion for everyone, even JB! And, as we all know, you confuse JB, and you've done something super stupid and super wrong! lol 🤔😳🙄

    I want to thank you, and really all the FPV community on YT and forums. I purchased the DJI FPV combo as well as a Nazgul 5hd v2. I've spent the last week flying in simulators and going down the FPV rabbit hole. I've learned a lot, I decided on the TX16s, I even used your link to purchase. Now if only the Xfire tx and rx sets were in stock in the US or the DJI V2 controller worked with Caddx/vista I'd be out slapping tomorrow. Alas, either way I'll be ripping around eventually, I'll just bide my time in the sims and continue to take in all the info and advice.

    Hi Joshua, with me it was the same reason why I left FrSky. The everlasting firmware updates and the problems in the EU with LBT / FCC mode gave me the rest. I gave all FrSky receivers to young pilots and switched completely to Crossfire. Recently I bought the Tango 2 for trips with the bike where space is limited. My standard radio is still the Taranis X9d with HAL effects gimbals and the Crossfire module. Happy flying!

    Got my TX16S on the weekend (getting back into RC for the first time since high school, when I only got to try friend's setups occasionally)... only used with the Liftoff simulator so far (will be progressing to a trashcan then "full size" quads), but I'm loving it so far. Super jealous of the purple bling but can't justify the cost for pure cosmetics.

    I have flysky for whoops, and the dji controller for my bigger quads since they’re all HD. Apparently flysky is lower latency than other protocols. And no doubt it’s nice having flexibility with opentx but I decided to go the expensive easy route with dji. Makes building so easy and binding is hassle free.

    Ok lemme tell you something but don't judge... My favorite radio is the beta fpv lite radio 2 se. I am a racer and basically I need 4 switches (2 that are 2 position and 2 that are 3 position) and good gimbals. I have tried countless radios but my racing radio is the beta fpv.

    4:10 When you order a TX16s and you want to have different colors and faceplate schemes than the standard combinations offered, order the radio with the faceplate scheme you want then go online and look for “replacement parts” and you can find all of the different anodized color options as well as different leather grips. Idk why those key words work over searching for “upgrades” but it does especially if you order from banggood.

    I bought the tx16s right after they added the 2nd speaker, but I sold it because the gimbals felt way to loose. I recently purchased and received the tx16s max...wow, what a difference in gimbal feel..a bit more friction, and very smooth.

  • @Mushielabs

    Me too! Still rolling x9d plus with full size crossfire! the gimbals still feel amazing, switches work, so I just don't see the reason to even buy a new radio yet..... But I don't fly any 2.4 and I definitely don't use frsky's receivers

  • @batmojuice5704
    @batmojuice5704 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks for mentioning the FrSky thing. I invested heavily in the FrSky environment (R9 and XM), which worked great ...then things changed. I still fly my quads with those FrSky setups, but switched to Tango (crsf) moving forward. My accst FrSky radio is very well built, but I’m not upgrading to the newer protocol. Seems like more of a money grab than tech improvement, as has been suggested. FrSky needs to clean up the puke they created if they want to stay in the biz.

    I have my LR2 bound to several different quads - there's just no simple switching back and forth, i.e., if two drones are bound and turned on, two drones will react. I'm pretty sure that's what you meant, but I didn't infer it as such. :)
    Be forewarned, however, that BetaFPV is or was having a huge QC problem with the wires coming loose from the gimbal pots. Not an easy soldering fix if you're new to soldering as the wires are very small and delicate. BetaFPV did send me new gimbals, but it too - and no hyperbole - 5 months to convince and then receive. YMMV.
    Thanks for all you do Joshua! You've made me a much more informed user.

    The BetaFpv Literadio allows for lots of mods. There is a thread on rcgroups named "Betafpv literadio advanced mods" .
    There they tell you how to add a lot of options to this tiny radio: add LiIon internal battery, attach oled screen and OpenTX buttons, attach external module, attach microSD card for LuaScripts, switch the gimbals to hall effect ones.
    Of course the total cost will be double, or triple from the initial 40$, but you will have so much functionality in such a tiny package.

    I bought a radiomaster tx16s and i love it. I have the radiomaster 2s 5000mah battery for it and i dont haven't charge it at all for some time. Best of all, connecting my frsky rxsr with fport setup wasnt that bad and i was able to upgrade the firmware through the radiomaster, because the frsky rxsr came with the jport update wire in the package. The only issue i am having is figuring out why i am not getting the battery info from the quad to show on the radio...

    Great video. I’ve had a Taranis X9D+ for maybe 6 years now. I’ve only actually had one FrSky RX which is the L9R and never had to mess with firmware. I’ve also used it with an EZUHF JR module, again with no messing. But in the last week I have finally got round to building various things and needed a bunch of new receivers. I bought some radiomaster R168’s because they were advertised as “EU LBT”. I wasn’t actually sure which firmware my Taranis had. Long story short, NIGHTMARE! I had no idea that it only is the EU and Non EU but there is V1 / V2 which don’t play together. My radio was actually non EU so at first I just flashed it with the latest EU LBT then spent an hour trying to bind the R168’s. I’ve actually learnt more about open TX and FrSky firmware in the last 2 days than I have known since getting this transmitter and I finally ‘get it’. Now I understand it I have no real reason to move to anything else but I completely understand not recommending it now to people who aren’t already invested.

    I started out from a Flysky i6 last Dec 2019 with a tinywhoop. Then November 2020 I bought an iFlight Nazgul5 v1 4S.
    Now a few days ago I received my RadioKing TX18S, was planning to switch to FrSky receiver originally, but I was pushed by my FPV friends to try Crossfire rx and get a crossfire module for it.
    TX18S performs well on my Flysky Fli14+ rx out of the box. This is also my first experience setting up a OpenTx radio 😅 (kind of challenging).
    But I have to say goodbye to my RadioKing TX18S, since one of my friend will buy it from me, now I'm waiting for my TBS Tango 2 to arrive from the mail. 😅

    In regards to the FrSky section, I have a couple of comments. 1) It's really not terribly complicated. Any 1.x.x version is self-compatible, 2.1.0 is only compatible with itself, and all 2.x.x version are once again self-compatible. That's it. Also, the common misconception that newer radios only run ACCESS is wrong. Only the X9 Lite will only run ACCESS from factory, and it can be flashed to run D16 and ACCESS like all the other newer radios. 2) All of the newer receivers, either the new R9M or Archer receivers will all have OTA updates, less latency, and improved range. 3) The misconception that FrSky will drop support of D16 receivers is unfounded. The last protocols they dropped support on were the V and D series. This happened over the span of 8 YEARS - significantly longer than either Radiomaster or Jumper have even been in business.

    You are mistaken Joshua (never though I'd say this). True that for 2,4GHz only the new Archer series supports OTA, but on R9 (Access), OTA has been supported out of the box for over a year . Works great and no need to press Bind anymore. Uninverted F-Ports and what's all that with F-Port 2.0 ?
    EDIT: And none of those radios take away my X9D+ 2019 SE (be in with R9 or CrossFire in the back) ;)

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's true that R9 supports OTA. If you have the 2019 ACCESS R9 module and the R9 MM-OTA receiver. If you have the original R9 or the regular R9MM then no. And this gets to the heart of the problem. FrSky has fragmented their firmware ecosystem so much that it is infuriatingly difficult to help people figure out what works with what. I spend literally hours every week helping people answer the question, "Why won't my RX bind to my FrSky controller," and it's ridiculously and unnecessarily difficult.

    I'm using TX16S from some time, and honestly i can't say anything wrong about this radio . Only issue i had was to switch my quads from RadioLink AT10II. The Multi module is not able to emulate AT series so i had to replace my RX's .
    I've mounted the Crossover RX XR602T-A with f-port support.
    Pretty cheap and very good performance receiver for flysky's AFHDS-2A protocol. According to satelite measuring my longest flight on this set was about 1050 m straight forward without any obstacle and my RSSI was about the midle of scale. I could fly further but i was a bit scared and my video feed was at the end of the range so i didn't test it further. By the way JB You could take a peek on this receiver. I still have two crap jumpers. Nether heli (and I wrote mike chin twice) nor grayson sent replacement cables. The RadioMaster came broken and you helped me fix along or after your own. Tango2 has too small of screen and to be honest can’t do more range than DJI Tx and good settings. But at least the controls are reliable. Plus weighs less. But for all the writing and more I have yet to get a set of the jumper replacement cables. I gave up and bought Tango2’s. RadioMaster scroll wheel is still crappy but use it when I need to emulate Spektrum. Sorry but both are inferior products and the Tango2 wins only by default and not completely on its own merits.

The main complaint with the FrSky stuff is that the updating makes legacy products an issue; but if you have no legacy products, what's the issue? You can't use the Tango 2 with legacy FrSky stuff without buying a module either. So if you're buying a NEW radio, there's really no issue there.
    I'm currently using the X-Lite Pro (and the gimbals on it are a huge upgrade compared to the original and even as good as my Futaba 14SG) with R9 MLP and I don't really have any issues. All my R9 stuff updates OTA just fine, same as it would if I bought CF. CF is more popular but the R9 eco system of OTA stuff I have flown with mates on CF and I'm getting the same performance. A big difference for someone like me though, if you are also into planes, CF doesn't have any real plane based RX's; where as I can get a stabilised R9 STAB OTA RX and use the functionality of head tracking from the X-Lite Pro also.
    FrSky is ditching ACCST, which legitamately yeh, might be an issue for some if you have a huge fleet of older models on those receivers (you could update them but as you said, soldering for firmware, annoying) but they are doing ACCESS now, the ACCESS stuff is OTA and they have 2.4ghz rx's coming in the newer 250hz range that TBS and ImmersionRC are doing but without needing to buy new modules. I also have a bunch of legacy stuff; maybe I will change to Ghost? Or maybe I'll just change my models over to Archer OTA rx's
    For me I'm looking at what people are complaining about with FrSky but ignoring that you're running into complications with the other radios that are similar or different in that they require investing in a whole new ecosystem or mix and matching different protocols because to cover all bases but FrSky seems to be the one people are upset at this for?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spend a few hours a week helping beginners with the question "I have a FrSky radio and receiver and I can't get them to bind" and you'll come to see my perspective. It's bonkers.

    • @grounddodger3212
      @grounddodger3212 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshuaBardwell @@JoshuaBardwell no I totally understand that; FrSky really needed to address that better in the transition from ACCST to ACCESS.
      The problem came about because they were locking out 3rd parties from using the ACCST protocol.
      If you purchase a radio tomorrow though and bought one of the newer FrSky radios, theres no reason there should be any problems going forward, like I said, its when you have to fumble around with legacy receivers all already installed.
      To me though, I had the same problem to an extent when I had to switch everything over to R9 (which would have been the same thing had I gone CF or Ghost).

    Once again recommending the betafpv literadio 2 without talking about the ongoing issues. Received mine and one of the gymbal stop working after 4h of simu. Everyone is recommending it so I bought it being pretty confident. But, after looking into it on youtube and posting my issue on facebook groups, lots of people are having the same issue or related ones! Cables not solder correctly or too short and get ripped off, on mine the potentiometer gave up. Looks like they don't have any quality control, or a really bad one. And I'm not talking about their horrible customer service... They send me a new gymbal, sure, but when I buy an advanced kit 2 to get into the hobby, I'm not planning or diving into soldering, or replacing parts. And the person I talked to by mail was quiet rude. All the issue of other people seems to have been in the last four months, so I don't know, maybe for that price they cut on quality control and there's a lot of bad radio getting out. Still, it's a shame for a company like that, and I'm surprise none of the big youtubers are talking about this.

    Joshua, I appreciate the honesty about FrSky. I bought the r-xsr and got bit by their firmware BS. I would really like your thoughts on the Jumper R1F, their $14 f-port receiver, and anything else that is out there. I simply don't trust Fr-Sky and am looking for alternatives. I fly a lot of smaller quads and don't necessarily have space for a 900mhz antenna. When I get to the point that I actually need a software update on my Taranis, I will probably buy the Radiomaster, or whatever is best at that point. Great video as always, Thanks!

Though I have not received mine yet, I ordered the Radiomaster TX12 last week. Understand that I could never afford the FrSky models, the Jumper models, or the earlier Radiomaster models. I got the Jumper multiprotocol module but was disgusted with hoop jumping download that was necessary to get it to work. I have been using all the versions of the discontinued Hobby King 9x, 9xR, & 9xR Pro models for years with satisfactory results.

    New to the hobby, and I got a Taranis X9D Plus 2019 this year. Your segment at the end rings true - the firmware setup and binding is a nightmare. The hardest part of my build was understanding ACCESS was the latest protocol, that it's only supported by some receivers, and that FCC / EU LBT is a thing. The versatility of opentx was great from the beginning and with the tx16s and the multi protocoll module it's all realy nice. But the tx16s is not flawless. First, the internal charging doesn't work on all radios, on some you have to remove two resistors.
    Another thing i have, is, that i sometimes loose the previously selected models after i turn on the radio again. This happens just sometimes but is super annoying in the field when it happens.
    So these are two issues that i have with my tx16s.

    The betafpv lite v2 i bought it as a beginner for my first radio for sim. After 1 week i had problems with it. In the sim it was stuttering. I thought my pc was too low spec (higher end gaming pc) in the end i found out that the gimbal contacts are badly soldered (some others have the same problem in the web) and the contacts are not good made. For some beginners that can allready solder (and remove the glue safety things on the gimbal contacts) its a real good starter radio. But for me after just 1 week in i was sad :-/. Just for sim i bought than FS-i6S it was just 50€. Which here in eu i payed around 40-45€ for the beta fpv lite. (Because its rarely available in the time of order)
