This is an older video, but helpful. I just purchased my first fountain pen. I got the Platinum Preppy from JetPens and I'm excited to try it out.

I love this series. I was actually looking for videos on a different pen and your series popped up. I knew nothing about fountain pens and I learned so much from you.

I agree with your selections. I started with the Pilot Metropolitan and the Lamy. I did buy a Preppy to take with me to use everyday and to take with me on vacation. I actually like the Preppy and I agree I would not buy a converter for it. I do not have the Twsbi but have been thinking about one. I love Goulet Pens and that is where I buy my pens and I love Brian and Rachel and the staff. They are so helpful and super nice.

Thank you for a wonderful and informative video. I have just gotten back into writing with fountain pens when I went through my desk and happened to come across the Parker 51 fountain pen that my father had given me when I went to college. I used that pen all the way through college and grad school. I cleaned it out, re-inked it and it has been good to go for the past few weeks. I forgot how much I enjoy writing with a fountain pen, so now, I'm hooked. I am slowly building up my collection of fountain pens, as much as my budget allows. I do like the selection of starter pens you had in this video. The only one I don't have on my wish list is the TWSBI. Again, thanks for the video and it was really great.

Great selection. I haven't loved my Lamy Safari and thus only have one. Twisbi has been my favorite so I have about 8 of those in different colors. It's not the prettiest pen, but like you I use it for long writing sessions.

I got my first fountain pen a couple days ago . Got a White Twsbi Eco in a Medium Nib. Ink I chose was some LAMY Black and Monteverde D.C. SuperShow Blue. I of corse did my due diligence and watched review after review before I went ahead and just bought a random Pen ....and decided to go with the ECO. Boy was everybody right?! This pen is a straight *BEAST*
    😁👌🏻 🖋

My Lamy Al-Star with an EF nib is the smoothest writer ever and my beloved workhorse pen.

That expanding ink behavior is likely a permanent Noodler's thing. My only Noodlers ink is Polar Black which, like laxiton gray is permanent, and it does the same. But my other permanent fountain pen inks don't do that. My favorite permanent inks are Rohrer & Klinger Sketchink series.

I have all three apart from Pilot metropolitan and I have to say that Safari had so bad nib issues that I have to put a lot of work to get ink flow and smoothness right... Out of those three Preppy writes the best although it is the cheapest, and it didn't need any nib smoothing at all! As for Twsbi I would say it makes the thinnest lines out of all of them (I have all in EF), and it just needed little bit of smoothing to write nicely for my likings. If I had to choose the one that has the nicest writing experience I would go for Preppy. I wanted to try Metropolitan but there is no EF nib in it and that is what I like the most.

My first pen was a cheap fountain pen from my friend this past New Year 2020. I just open a box in February and now I have almost 100 pens. I know it's an insane quantity.
I do not agree with most people when it comes to first fountain pen that people should use. I think pilot Metropolitan, Lamy Safari, and twsbi eco are all too expensive for first time user. Wouldn't it be better if you could just pay for a couple dollars and get a decent pen instead of having to pay 15 -30$.
For first time user, I think pilot petite or platinum preppy is excellent choice. if you don't like the pen, it only costs around 4 or 5 US$.
Another thing is the ink capacity problem. I do love my twsbi go and twsbi eco but sometimes I like to change the ink color and it's hard to clean them. So for beginner I think it might be hard to use piston filler pen.

      Wow! That's a great collection!
Great thoughts, and I agree, in part.
My very first pen was a Pilot Varsity, it was ok, but if people really want to experience the quality and weight of a good pen they need to put a little skin in the game! ;)

@@MandyLynnPlans I've heard good thing about pilot varsity, unfortunately I cannot find it in my country. My current favorite pen "this week" are Jinhao 51a and Kaweco Supra. ^___^
      btw....love your vdo.

    These are great contents! Subscribed.
I'm trying to decide between the Metro and Eco. I tend to write and journal a lot day and night. Also to carry my pen everywhere I go, the car, suitcase, pocket you name it.
Which one would you prefer if I were to have one reliable, great writing pen?
    Cheers!

So glad they have been helpful! I would recommend the Eco because of the larger ink capacity! Enjoy!

Is TWSBI’s fine nib similar to Pilot’s medium.

Hey i want to buy Lamy Safari. Which nib do you recommend? It’s going to be my first fountain pen. I really appreciate if you could reply me.

I would go with a fine! German fine nibs are a great place to start!!

Just got first two I eco and I seem to keep getting ink on my fingers…..how???

    • @MandyLynnPlans
      @MandyLynnPlans  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hmmm... Just when you write with it? Or from when you were inking it? I still get ink on my fingers to this day while filling! It shouldn't leak and get ink on your fingers just from writing.
