I've been working with voxel models for almost a decade and those tips are actually really usefull, especially the second one, 'sculpting' off shapes can massively help people with understanding various curves and techniques used to make them, how they function and what product you end up with.
Underestimating shape proportion is also truly much more common than you would think, as an example of the top of my mind - one of the most famous ships, RMS Titanic, has a proportion of *length:width* almost *10:1* , which sounds bizzare at first, but is a fact.
The underestimated size thing is soooo true i always duck up if i dont do the measurements😂😂
Literally spent 3 hrs last night attempting a build which I soon realised looked like a toy boat considering it was supposed to be a destroyer sized ship lol... godamnit

Also when doing scale mock-ups, there’s a UI in the bottom right corner that shows the length width and height of a sheet your planning on placing, so you can press and hold in a line to accurately measure a line to the exact length of what you want, this is most helpful when measuring a build to make sure it is 1:1.

And to think I am the guy who shows up to a nice running creation and starts taking a hacksaw to it.
The reason I end up cutting them up, is that for the campaign, a lot of the details are expensive.
Solid rocket boosters, generator and motors immitating coffee cups, or some that uses HUDs as shelves.
In short, those are 500 bucks a pop and the HUDs cost 10k, cutting those out really can make a vehicle affordable in the campaign.

Great common sense advice. Funny how may straight forward approaches can easily forgotten. I'm just coming up to 200 hours in SW and I've still got so much more to learn and refine. I love the problem solving required to get from concept in my head to a functional creation in-game.

Great video! My tip would be to find a silhouette of a face of the vehicle, get the dimensions of that face in meters, multiple it by 4, and finally scale down the image in pixels to that #. This works because Stormworks vehicles are just pixelated versions of the real ones.
Yeah pixelating an image is a good way to build a realistic vehicle. Although It's a little time consuming.
@@markers6222 if you want to go all out, you can use the paint block image creator website, that I’m blanking on the name of, and import an actual blueprint!

Great video. My 4 year old son is seriously into Stormworks so I hope to pass on the tips some time! I teach people how to write essays and planning the big picture before the details is so crucial, and people don't easily get there with that issue by themselves.

My favourite thing to do in stormworks is to take things that aren’t boats nor ment to be boats and turn them into boats

I am working on a ship and while I do it I draw the ship first and then make it inside the game while listening to sea shanty’s to get my mind right glad to see I am not making opsy dopsy

I hate using guides to build anything since it feels so rigid so with 1100 hours in trailmakers and 460 hours in stormworks ive just become decent at eyballing things although still not very accurate i can make things look fine

Hey ive have over 1,5k play h abd your tips are helping even me! Stormworks is a game there you need to learn no Matter how maby play h you have
Well I sort of went against the 1st one as I built somthing wich the detail was the main thing the build I’m talking about will be on the workshop when I finish as it is the train that ran the bexlyheath line (my local line) for a while and it’s famous but not worldwide known the bulleid 4DD britains only dubble decker train although it’s not correct as the end coaches have 5 modules (correct) but due to space limits it has no baggge compartment but I will upload it when I finish the green livery’s (green, green/w yellow) as rn it’s only the BR blue and when done my other southern railway builds will be published

Heres something funny i do i always invision my stormworks creations as to big instead of to small due to my WIDE laptop screen it makes it look 20x bigger then it actually is so 1 block looks like 5 meters to me lol

No, because planning would be something you do before building. Its actually a really good thing if you plan rooms before hand
