Walked VdlP this year (2024) from mid-April to mid-June. I can attest that those two alberques mentioned are really worth it, true gems and highpoints of VdlP. Other albergue, or rather a town I'd like to point out is Baños de Montemayor. Last stop in Extremadura before entering Castille and Leon. Municipal albergue in A Laxe was really interesting arcitechturally. Also never skip a Complejo Leo service station if you come across one. Worth a visit, every time.
Last year I walked the Camino Del Norte from Hendaye to Ribadeo. From there, I followed the mostly unmarked Camino Del Mar to Ferrol and then the Ingles to Santiago. I wish the Mar was more well travelled, absolutely stunning scenery and beautiful towns to discover.

@@robscamino I understand. I am 62 and decided that yes, till I.m too old. Until my health is good and I have the resources, I will keep walking the Caminos. Even 100 km is worth your time. I also completed Fisterre and thought of you and your videos. Breathtaking and luxurious end: spent the last evening in hotel OFaro... Unspeakable beauty to see the faro lights, the sundown and the sunrise.... Deeply beautiful too and humbling.
I start in Salmanca the last week in September. Thanks for the suggestion about printing the Gronze maps, that will be helpful. I'm much better with diagrams than words. I need to keep my pack as light as I can so I'm not keen on carrying an umbrella. This time I'll use 2 UL sun hoodies plus a very lightweight 30g Buff cap, the peak helps shade my eyes if it's very sunny. In practice I find it's also excellent as a sweat band. I'd certainly prefer the umbrella if I was not so concerned about weight.
Great video as always Rob. I did the primitivo in April and it was pretty sparse as far as pilgrims was concerned. I think all in all there were probably around 20 people who I bumped into along the way altogether. I had a couple of nights early on with just two of us in an albergue and one near the end, I went a bit off the track just before Lugo, where o was the only person in a wonderful alburgue with kittens in a draw in the kitchen! I’m going to set of and do some of all of the Frances again in early October. I want to see what the autumn is like. I’ve certainly got the bug. I really want to do the Via de la plata and thought about doing some of it in October but it’s too expensive for me to get that far south at the moment and I don’t fly anymore. I’ll do some of it sometime. I’ve thought about the Madrid too, don’t know much about that one yet though. Be interesting to see what you think. The primitivo is sparse as far as cafes etc and you have to be prepared to take done food. A lot of solitary walking and very slow for me as sooo many hills. I’m like you , I enjoy being alone but also enjoy the camaraderie. This is now mainly your fault that I’m so addicted to all this 😂
Sounds great! A drawer full of kittens! How cure is that? The Primativo is in my list 🙂 Hey don't blame me! You didn't need much of a nudge LOL So happy to hear how it's all going
Hi Rob! The other day I read for the first time about the “Camino de Levante” that begins in Valencia, it cuts through the center of Spain from the east all the way to Santiago de Compostela. It looks like a very interesting camino.
Have walked the Camino de Madrid (2022). It’s relatively flat to walk and is about 350km - ends in Sahagun where it joins the Camino Frances. Will need Spanish though to make telephone calls to book accom etc it is very, very, very rural for most of it. Often no supermarkets for days on end !
I am starting the Camino Baztan this time next week !!!! It goes between Bayonne in France to Pamplona where I am going to do the rest of the French way. It seems a v remote Camino so will be interesting...anyone any thoughts on it ?
I've heard great things about the Baztan. Hopefully we'll get there one day. Have you watched the "Legacy of the Bones" TV Series filmed there? Maybe best when you come back! 🙂
Have you walked a more remote Camino, or planning to? Any tips to share or questions that you might have?

I walked past the Albergue in A Laxe. Looked great.
So far I have walked 4 different caminos and my favourite so far was the Primitivo, tough but stunning, I highly recommend it.
It looks great. Must do it before I get too much older!!
@@robscamino you're still only a young lad 😁
@@stephenreid_66 I don't feel like it !! 🙂

Why do you wish the Camino Del Mar was more travelled?

Another great video Rob! Invaluable advice and information both when we met for coffee and in the video.
Great to catch up!
On Primitivo as we speak Robb! Highly recommend it. It is deeply beautiful!
That one is 100% on my to do list! So many routes, and so little time. (till I'm too old)

My Umbrella only weighs 234 gms. And as it reduces my water consumption by at least that weight, I'm happy to carry it 🙂
