Sankaram 2004

This was the first ever event of its kind featuring congregational singing by 5000 school children from about 50 schools, held at the University Centenary auditorium, Chennai on 2nd October 2004. The function was presided by the former President of India Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam and His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal & Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. The project was jointly presented by Sankara Health Centre, Pammal, Chennai and Mudhra. On this occasion Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam also interacted with the children.

Kanchi Periyava mentioned the right thing stressing the need for Good thoughts and deeds. That we do not teach Avvaiyar's works in the schools and instead teach the nursury rhymes from English language is a distressing thing. The moral basis for life is pervasive in the Tamil literature and it is time we do teach these to our children and the parents should send their children to the schools where they teach these fundamental things that characterize our great Indian Tamil civilization.
