- Joe Pantoliano interviews Dr. Dean Brooks, the former Superintendent of the Oregon State Hospital from 1955 to 1981. Brooks participated in the film "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" when the producers cast him as Dr. Spivey and shot the film at the hospital in Salem, Oregon during the mid-1970's. Brooks talks about how he started in psychiatry, became involved with the film, and what he learned about acting from Jack Nicholson.
No Kidding? Me Too! (NKM2), founded by Joe Pantoliano, is a non-profit organization who's main purpose is to stomp the stigma that surrounds brain disease. Visit www.nkm2.org.

I worked at the retirement home were Dean Brooks lived. i got to meet Joe Pantoliano, he was funny. Dean was a great man. i loved working with him. my he rest in peace.
amazing how some people are pure history. look how much this man has lived.
Magnificent. The office intro scene was full of ad-hoc elements. Banging the desk for a fly, referring to the fishing photo, asking permission to smoke - all of those were off-script. ART
Great footage of Dr. Brooks. This deserves WAY more likes!
This was great and I learned a thing or two. Thanks Joey Pants! At 92 this doctor is amazing!
Brilliant man, God bless him!!!
great interview, very glad I found this
What a cool guy. The world needs more people like him.
for a non-actor he did phenomenal.
Was so hunky!
RIP
I hope that the last season of ratched will be here tho-
Loathsome man, opposed to the very essence of Cuckoo’s Nest.
What a nice man, kind and honorable. When I first saw the movie, I could tell he was a real doctor and not an actor.
How could you tell?
I realised too, he was so natural and then I Googled it.
Ninety two, and he still has that great head of hair, I’m jealous.
I've always loved the way Brooks and Nicholson played that first scene together. Brooks' face after McMurphy's beaver quote is priceless and it would seem he was not 'acting' at that moment. lol
Nicholson has this ability as an actor to elevate other characters.
I didn’t know he was a real doctor aside from that movie. What a great man
yep he was an actually doctor and employee of the OSH. RIP Doc
The timing of this is exquisite. A man of deep principles and commitment he lived over ninety years in service to his fellows! LPB Corbett
I completely agree with him that everyone should have a right to "be saved", and to not put people in prison who are mentally ill, prison does nothing to help mental health
God Bless Dr. Brooks...RIP
I thought he did a really good job considering he wasn't an actor.
He is acting more like the Dr. from the book on this video than he did in the film.
The spiirit of McMurphy lives on!!
Yes, it does!
What a wonderful man
I used to live right next door to that hospital. I was told we needed to stop playing tennis at the court because folks get out from time to time.
He looks a lot like Joe Paterno.
"Your gonna be here for a period for us to evaluate you.....Were gonna study you.....We'll make out determination as to what we're gonna do and give you the necessary treatment"
"This is what I wanna work on..." - he's 92! A hero!!!
I'll see if I can get some more views for it
Doctor Dean passed away yesterday morning. And
he will be gone 10 years on May 30, 2023
great video

Joey Pants you are one KOOL KAT.
Marco A. M S yo guy is that your c4 vette in the pic?
The Saul Zaentz company sure sounds familiar. I dont think John Fogerty of CCR fame is too fond of Zaentz. Zaentz cant dance
