It may be worth noting that these Omix-ADA exhaust manifolds were probably manufactured to work with the Omix-ADA intake manifolds. The flange thickness of the original factory exhaust manifold is 7/16". The flange of the original factory intake manifold matches that. These Omix exhaust manifolds have a 1/2" flange so if you mix original and new, you'll have fitment issues. Using the file in the manner you suggest will allow the mating surface of the manifolds to sit much closer to flat against the gasket and the block. However, the surfaces on the opposite side where the nuts sit on both the intake and exhaust manifold will not be even at all. You will have to also use an angle grinder to knock some of the material off those two surfaces of the exhaust manifold so the nuts will apply even force onto both manifolds when tightened.
