It is amazing one what can throw codes on newer vehicles, I have a 2.2L ecotec and it had this problem, thought I new what it was, seeing as how I just cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor, so I had a good idea what it was :P Good video, a shame it was that short though, looking forward to more.
Hey Eric heres one. I dont have the scanner to view live data. Heres the issue. 2000 silverado 2500 hd with a 6.0. 265k on the clock. Very suddenly it starts idling very high. p0507 code thrown. i clean the throttle body properly, use a multimeter to check idle air, and remove and clean it. i check my tps and clean it. i cleaned my MAF sensor with the proper stuff. i check for intake leaks using a flammable spray, and the soapy water way. The engine idles very high on cold start(1500rpm) when its warm its 2000. it stays high when you drive it to. The only thing i havent checked is the PCV valve. i also havent taken off the intake manifold yet. i suspect oil may be in it. Also a side note. it starts throwing a No communication from MAF to o2 bank one. i uplug the MAF while its running. It stays running. I change the MAF. same deal.
There was another site where the problem was a piece of plastic fell into the throttle body, keeping the throttle blade open. Taking the piece out so the throttle blade could close all the way cured the problem.
Hey Eric! I have been watching all your videos for a while now and wanted to let you know that I appreciate your work and efforts. I have a 2006 Saturn Ion 2.4L with the cup at the end of a fuel injector that came off the injector and is stuck in the engine. Any advice?
So hey I can hear a leak coming from the intake manifold of this 2.2 ecotec I'm working on. The only code over got is 303 but after putting a new ICM on I got a 300 and much more violent misfire. Put the old ICM back on and it's back to normal, misfiring only when up to temperature. I'll definitely do the brake cleaner test and go from there.
Good diagnosis. I'm confused though how an intake leak would cause a lean code, I thought it would cause a rich code because metered air escaping but the determined amount of fuel is still entering the cylinder. Can someone explain this to me?
Anthony Filice The amount of metered air is reduced and the ECM is not adding the correct amount of fuel is the simplest way I can put it. All the air entering the engine is not going through the MAF so the ECM will only add fuel for the measured amount going in . Make sense?
The computer measures the air coming in via THE FRONT DOOR and adds fuel to match it. Hypothetically call it a 1to1 air/fuel mixture. This manifold intake gasket is the living room windows being left open. Now you have 1.5 air flowing into the house. The front door sensor doesn't register the living room window air so the computer added gas is still a "1" but the air in the house is 1.5. The house is getting more air flow but the window air isn't being registered by the sensor. Car is running a 1.5/1 ratio. Lean, not enough fuel (food). If you dinner enough, you get LEAN too. Button up the house so the air flows from front door, through the sensor, combusts in the house and goes out the back door (where gramma smokes!). Redheads are hot. Molly Quinn is proof.
Those Saturn engines are good from my experience. I've recently done a compression test on one with 175K miles on it and it showed 185 PSI across the board. I thought that's impressive! Maybe it was just a well maintained one,I don't know...
You know erick .!when u get 100,000 subs..you tube will send a check and plaque!!!keep doing what u doing ull go far!ill be here...the only thing its gonna take a lot of ur time..i can see it on face!but congrats u doing great..like everytime great video!..
South Main Auto Repair It's just a plaque not a check too. Don't get your hopes up with a bonus. I can see you becoming more popular than ETCG eventually due to the frequency and quality of your documentation. Just don't drive yourself mad by trying to answer everyone's questions like he and Kilmer do online. Just tell people to go visit their local mechanic.
***** I didn't ETCG Ever responded to anyone... I don't think I have ever seen him answer a question or acknowledge anyone unless they were extreme hater. Or are you talking about his forum?
South Main Auto Repair He used to. Just saying eventually you'll hit a critical mass to the point you won't even remember who I am and my comments will be buried in the millions of others. I was around to see many channels blow up from a couple hundred to hundreds of thousands. When that happens just remember not to forget what made your channel successful in the first place. Don't change a thing. I'll be happy for you when that happens. Until then I can still enjoy conversing with you.
I have a po300 and a p1174on my 06 Saturn 2.4 as well. Plugs, purge valve, injectors o2 sensor all new. My fuel pump pressure test was erratic and we replaced it. Still misfiring on number 3. What’s weird is that it had a po303 but when I replaced the o2 sensor it went to a po300. So frustrating.
I cannot believe 'the internet' didn't fix that guys car! Perhaps injectors and solenoids were cheaper than a half hours diagnostic? Nice video Eric. I hate customers on Internet forums! The labour rate should double if the words 'on the forum it says...' Come out of the owners mouth!
Toyota Tech The sad thing is if he went to SaturnFans.com and posted his problems everyone there would have been able to tell him what was wrong. Theres a pretty damn good Saturn community there (especially for the S-Series cars), because of that forum my '95 SL1 runs like a beauty, after the previous owner treated it like crap.
Im getting P0172 on my Saturn. I had change the 02 oxygen sensor upstream, new fuel rain and injectors, tempature control, thermostat, , idk what else I should check- Or should I try what you did ‘ ?
The local Advance here will scan your code free(just a code reader, no data) and the parts guy would try to sell you an o2 sensor for something like that. I've seen it in the parking lot! It also had the code for the other bank so that would make bad sensors even less likely. Since he was parked next to me I had to watch, I told him and the owner to investigate further but he is a "parts pro" he said. The owner didn't buy the sensors. Told him to get maf cleaner instead(it was an older ford vehicle) and then look for vac leaks if the issue still exists. P0171 codes are 99% not the o2 sensor. Like blaming the postman for someone not sending you your check! P0133 though is another story, but still not 100% the sensor.
phil holbrook Call snap on they will send you a jump drive. At least that is how I did it when I had no guy. Now I just get them over the internet but you should call or email them for details.
Good video i have a 97 Avalon xls with code 125 and 135 and both say bank 1 sensor 1 are they the same air fuel sensor heated can one code be responsible for another tnx
I've been looking a good scanners. I have a 99 dodge ram. also looking at buying a camry 2001ish. on scanners, Should I get one of the higher end innova scanners or buy that big scanner autel from harbor freight?
Hey buddy I have a 06 Saturn ion same motor same exact everything but I have had the car tested at Advanced Auto which that place is horrible and excuse my language but they have shitty parts.. but anyway I also took it to AutoZone an the test came back to be the same thing 1 random misfire an 2 which leads to whenever I stop to put fuel in it and then I would crank up the car but won't run until I feather the gas pedal so I would start it again an fires right up but I have to hold it at 2rpms for 3 to 4 minutes after that it'll run ok but if I let right then it'll stall out but the car did keep on cutting off me sometimes while driving an stopping anywhere but I took some carb cleaner and took off the air intake an sprayed it so now it quit doing that for now just does it whenever I put any amount of fuel in it.
Were you purposely ignoring the low 8.8 in hg map sensor reading to pretend like you didn't know what was going on? Lol, that was actually the first thing I noticed that seemed off.
Brake clean is a fuel source. Add external fuel and the computer will take fuel away. Feedback loop involving the oxygen sensor. Brake clean will drive oxygen sensor rich, computer will take fuel away and fuel trim will fall.
Wouldn't the video be lot shorter if only you click "Fix it!" button it displayed next to the Code Description ? Every time you show that screen, I am yelling "Go Ahead Eric, Press That Button!"
I love it. Nice and easy. Hopefully the rest of the job is the same. Get ready for all of the ac repairs coming. Tis the season.

a P0174 can be caused by an exhaust manifold leak right?
