  • Sarah’s chronic pain leads to prescription drug addiction and, later, dependence on street drugs, resulting in a series of overdoses that threaten her life. Rescuing a neglected dog named Domino becomes a catalyst for positive change in Sarah’s life as she bravely overcomes opioid addiction and now lives life in recovery.
“Domino was broken. And I felt broken, as well. He was everything I needed when I was nothing.” - Sarah Coletti

That's what they do, they save you. You look in to those eyes that love you sooooo much, and you know you don't deserve it. So you decide to do your best to deserve it, just a little bit.

Sarah you've walked such a long road and you should be proud of where you are now. There is no shame in being a survivor so while you mourn the ones you have lost, celebrate your own survival everyday with Domino. All the very best to you both.

    High five, Sarah!
In case it would be helpful there are natural remedies that help with pain. Bromelain, CBD, DL-Phenalamine, Sam-e, MSM (powerful enough I can take 1/2 tsp now but had to start with 1/16 tsp), Cat's Claw, Devil's Claw and Willow Bark extract. Magnesium is good for things like fibromyalgia. Dr Carolyn Dean recommends way above the RDA. She sells a descent product. I use it now and then but I actually prefer MagSRT by Jigsaw. It's time release so it has less of a tendency to cause laxative effect. Also, I found I had to gradually work up to it. FYI, I'd recommend getting Dr Dean's audiobook, "The Magnesium Miracle". She hawks her product in the book but presents much enlightening info.
Another thing which costs nothing except time: EFT. I'm just getting into EFT (AKA tapping) but I keep hearing lots of rave reviews. It's reportedly good for emotional issues such as anxiety and depression. It can be used on physical ailments such as pain or stress triggered tension or distress. Heck, people even use it for finances. Basically it allows you to rewire your brain to slide out of "fight or flight" into "rest and digest. If you're up for something a bit more challenging there's Holotropic Breathwork that allows you to get at repressed trauma to alleviate it. Also on my "to do list", I'm waiting to time it so I can do a session and then discuss with a therapist a couple days later.
One last thing is diet. I'm sure you've heard of Gluten Intolerance. Gluten is a plant protein in a family called LECTINS. Some folks are sensitive to lectins in general. Dr Steven Gundry wrote a book on it called, "The Plant Paradox". In it he outlines how these lectins can damage the intestines causing leaky gut, thereby causing body-wide inflammation. In the diet, he says the lectins in beans can be rendered harmless by pressure cooking, but those of grains cannot. Ditto for tomatoes, peppers, and chilis. Fear not however since they CAN be defused by fermentation. Fermented wheat = sourdough = potentially safe. I never knew this, but almost all bread-like products can be made from sourdough. What do you get when you ferment tomatoes, peppers and chilis? Rockin Salsa.
While on the topic of fermentation, OMG it's so freaking awesome. I used to scowl at Sauerkraut- I could never quite stomach it despite it being an ethnic food for me. There's a HUGE difference in the way Lactic acid (from fermentation) tastes vs Acetic acid (vinegar). Lactic acid is still tangy but it's a smoother more mellow tangy than vinegar. I make a kick a$$ Kimchi that I could sit down and eat by the pound. It's like OMG, WHY did I never know about this? I make several gallons per batch so it takes an afternoon, but that lasts for months. And oh BTW, I use a starter culture (purists sneer at that) to speed the ferment time from 2 months to 2 weeks. Every batch turns out great and it's packed with not only probiotics but compounds that could potentially prevent cancer at the least. I use colored veggies so it's not only visually appealing, but the mix is also a super-superfood.
Anywho, I know this was TLDR but hopefully you did. If there's anything I can help with, reach out. I'm also an animal lover and recovering from Tramadol. I hurt my back a few years ago and was on it for 5 years. Instead of running on Dunkin, I used to say, "The world runs on Tramadol". Tramadol not only made the pain go away, it gave me a surge of energy, and made me feel like I was invincible. Then the FDA reclassified it, my doc shut me off, and my life crashed and burned. That's why I have a such long message to share what I've learned in the aftermath.
