I really loved this!! Effortless mastery. He literally played it with his eyes closed and it sounded wonderful.

Wow. Absolutely beautiful phrasing. The guitar sounds really balanced and colorful but new and tight still.

Il y a tout le tragique de la condition humaine dans cette musique. La quête de l'impossible... Toujours espérer et recommencer... Elle est vraiment ressentie de l'intérieur, là. C'est juste et beau.

That was majestic! Nicest un-capoed version I’ve heard! Love the depth and warmth of the tones sans capo.

Yes! Pardon my ignorance, but can you tell me why ppl are playing it with capo, please?

    • @drdavid62
      @drdavid62 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@melinarodriguez8395 by playing this piece using a capo on the 2nd or 3rd fret of modern day classical guitars, the resultant higher pitch will more closely resemble what it would have sounded like when played in the 16th century on the early 'guitar like' instrument called a 'vihuela'. Also, for individuals with smaller hands, it may feel a bit easier to play with the frets closer together, making left-hand stretches more manageable. Cheers.

@@drdavid62 Thank you for the explanation! I'm learning it without the capo and love how the chords descend into the deep tones :)

Glad to see some more Renaissance music on GSI 👏! This arrangement is nearly identical to the Emilio Pujol version I have ("Hispanae Citharae Ars Viva," part of the ABRSM repertoire) save for a few fingerings. This guitar has such a nice bass response too! 😎

A música da renascença espanhola, é muito rica. Os instrumentos como a vihuela de mano, tem pouco potencial sonoro o que não tira o brilho e beleza da música.

One might listen to Segovia playing the same piece to understand the correct phrasing.

Mary.. And you would not have to suffer through the weave and bob, grimace and release affectations.
      Off putting.

Yes, the phrasing is a bit weird, but I think it's his particular expression. He has a nice flow!

Edna.. This is an attention getting device authored/originated by Yo Yo Ma.
I find it off putting. A silly and distracting affectation; right up there with guitarists and their "ballet hand" movements. Ridiculous. It's all about "look at me"... "look at me".

@@jeffhildreth9244 my first guitar teacher when I was 6 yrs old didn’t even realize he was making these horrible facial contortions. I used to squirm in anguish every time he showed me how to play a passage.

The guitar is beautiful and sounds bad. The performer needs to play in the theater because it is important what and how you play the guitar and not on your face. In general, I didn't like it.

    • @jeffhildreth9244

To be blunt.. he looked the fool and distracted from the music and the guitar.
This is a new age affectation .. an invention of Yo Yo Ma. Look at Yo Yo Ma's early performances before he was famous and after.
