Cricket is a bat-and-ball game that is played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 22-yard pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps.
The history of association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, stretches back at least to medieval times. Some predecessors of football may date back to ancient Greece and Rome, and similar games were played in ancient China and Japan.

Because winning a cricket World Cup won't get us any global recognition. I was a great cricket fan during my childhood. Later on, when I learned about the origin and history of cricket, I felt ashamed of myself. Cricket is a colonial sport made by rich people, and it somehow symbolizes slavery. The game is mainly played by 15 countries. Hockey used to be our national sport, and if we had given more attention to hockey than cricket, we could have won more Olympic medals. Plus, when I started to watch other sports, I felt how silly and stupid this game was. Cricket is mainly batsman-centric, and it mainly depends on the pitch. People talking about form and consistency in cricket is another stupid thing. How they can talk about the player's form when the game heavily depends on factors like pitch. It annoys me a lot when some of my countrymen still can't acknowledge the fact that cricket is one of the least popular games across the world. The lack of physical fitness in this game is a joke. Look at some players like Insam Mam ul Huq, Ramesh Powar, Amit Mishra, and even our Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Look at their physique and compare it to that of other sports players, and we can see a huge difference. Virat Kohli revolutionized and brought a fitness culture to our Indian cricket team. Before that, physical fitness was an absent word in our Indian cricket dictionary. Some people who are still confused about the popularity of cricket just tell me, How many baseball players do you know? Baseball is the national game of America and has a huge fanbase within the country, but the majority of the Indians don't even know a single baseball player. Even though rugby is played in many countries, many of us don't even know a single Ruby player. It actually hurts to see when some people think of cricket as our national game. If we Indians lose interest in cricket, then the game of cricket will be dead and buried. Thank you

The main reason football is more popular than cricket is, 'It doesn't take much for a fan to track the game.' If you're a casual cricket fan like me, you can easily follow a football game, but even a smart football will have difficulty keeping track of the game of cricket.
Football is based on pure instinct, whereas cricket can be considered more an art than a regular sport.
And about club culture, there is not a single chance that club cricket will ever be more popular than internationals.

Cricket will never progress until it becomes independent from BCCI. The domination of BCCI in ICC preventing all kinds of progressions it supposed happen. For example, Top 3(India, England, Australia) takes up almost 70% . And 20% other 9 Full members nation and only 10% goes to other 150+ associate nations as funding. How will it grow. How will they afford better facilities, training, equipment? And without those how a country produce great players. BCCI's actions are making sure Cricket only played by 10-15 teams. And India always remain at the top. And that's why cricket losing more and more popularity even in the nations where it is already well established.

What you have told is a well known fact. Over the years ICC has been doing things to ensure that cricket is dominated by nations like India, England and Australia. They don't want other nations to develop in cricket. ICC has many strict rules that don't allow associate nations to play regular bilateral series against full member nations. Moreover, England and Australia often reject playing series against bottom ranked teams like Zimbabwe, Ireland and Bangladesh etc. Most ICC officials and staff are from India, Australia and England and they all make plans to keep cricket strong only in their respective countries. They never ever had any intention to make cricket popular across the globe.

Oh man, the thing about ads and celebrations in Cricket vs Football and "dead time" is so true lol
They don't give you time to breathe with the ads as well, like any time there is a wicket they immediately cut the broadcast to an ad and don't show the players celebrating or anything. Recently Tanzim Sakib, a player in the Bangladesh national team got fined like 15% his salary cause in the game against Nepal he had a heated exchange with a Nepali batsman that lasted like 2 seconds and that's such a harsh fine for a mere 2 or 3 seconds of sledging and that's something that takes out the fun too like don't get me wrong I don't like to see players get hurt or fight or anything but we the viewers like it when the players get passionate and heated in a game like that, it feels lively. Then there is fixing in cricket specially Pakistan SA WI India they do alot of fixing. Recent example is Pakistan needed 47 off 47 with 8 wickets in hand but they still lost, SA needed 30 off 30 on batting wicket where they managed to score 150 in 15 overs but they still lost. So cricket will never become as popular as Football in fact cricket is dying in countries Like England, Australia NZ and SA. India celebrating rigged T20 worldcup victory as if they won football worldcup on the other hand when England won worldcup in 2022 nobody even celebrated and even 98% England nation didn't even know that they have won worldcup.

Cricket's title as the "Second most popular game on Earth" is a simply a marketing strategy.
While it is true on paper, the only reason that they can claim that title is due to Asia's massive population numbers. But if you look at overall interest in nations, compared to football, it's actually not that popular.
It's even more obvious when you watch an international cricket tournament. 90% of the time, it's one of the well established cricket nations like England, India or Australia, winning over and over and over again.

Football gets around 2 months of break which isn't necessarily true due to WC, Copa America, Euros and Confederations Cup in four consecutive years. Club football lasts from August to May, the Champions & Europa League end in June. There's always something to watch for the average viewer. Meanwhile in cricket, due to the international focus, periodic series means that there is a lack of watch time.

Youll always have test matches as the premier highest level of the game, but ODI and T20 are better for globalization

As a person who follows both game enthusiastically, football is overall more entertaining, but a thrilling cricket match is much more intense than a thrilling football match(Atleast for me) 15 runs in last over gives much more goosebumps than a penalty shootout(especially when both batsmen and bowler are good)

Referee: Blatant mistakes can happen in Football; Cricket has much better umpiring. For instance, even to this date, we debate God’s hand winning the game in 1986. Cricket has the patience to wait for a third umpire decision and has a better review system.

and what is the problem with that? Sport in general has always been the subject of debate due to referee errors, over time they become anecdotes, for some funny, for others bitter... Now with the VAR, which is almost impossible to do, football evolves without losing its essence, without modifying everything and without creating new formats to survive, like certain little games

@@qalidurut7249 yep, football has countless formations, multiple roles defined, heck no 2 teams play same brand of football, managers define the game more then a captain because of their tactical prowess, a football game starts the minute their formations are announced, the subs matter, the formations matter, how you pass the ball matter, which role you have matters, a playmaker is different then a box to box midfielder who is different then a classic number 10, etc. Heck even modern goalkeepers have adopted the sweeper keeper role where they are the first ones to start the attack, hence: football is far more strategy based then cricket or any other sports for that matter (f1 is debatable tho).

The heart of cricket is South Asia, 2 billion of those 2.5 billion fans are from here, the only way to grow cricket would be to expand IPL- to include club teams named on cities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka and with 7 mandatory players from these countries in their respective teams, and if it succeeds , include club teams from Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand with 7 mandatory players and rest 4 players should come from other parts of world except these countries like Netherlands, Namibia, Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada, this will make IPL as International league championship and League sports tend to have more fan following than International sports, cricket will die if its more oriented to international teams, just have ODI and T20 WC every 4 years, and Test cricket has to die as its discriminates against associate nations and today except a retired person no one has time to watch test cricket ball by ball

It's because of cricket that the Indian government fails to provide adequate money for the development of football in India (Moreover BCCI has totally corrupted cricket since their takeover), all the sports ministry ever cares about is money. Cricket being more popular, receives the bulk flow of money while anything less popular than cricket is compromised. If you don't provide the Indian football fans with quality football, no one will and no one should bother watching Indian football leagues.
Even after India managed to win the SAAF, not many people knew about it but in cricket even after India fail to win a major trophy, players are celebrated like champions (no offence, India finally won an ICC trophy after 11 years in T20 CWC this year). No matter if India lose every Final in cricket tournaments each year despite having loads of talent (even the reserve team of India could contend for a world cup) it doesn't stop them from being celebrated; but no matter what India wins in football, people just don't seem to care. This is nothing but a pure mental bias towards cricket and a critical overlooking over football.
Compare this to a country like England where all sports are equally nurtured and looked after. That explains why England as a both cricket and football team are always top contenders to win their respective tournaments.

When was the last time a Cricket player faked a nudge or injury? It would have become a headline immediately, and half the world would have joined in condemning it. In football, it seems, every player is allergic to another human or his breath. Even proximity or their scent can make them fall like a felled tree. Evidently, this is Business as Usual, and it is not even frowned upon; forget condemning it.

Popular Means How Many Regions Are Aware About It In The World Whereas Viewed Means How Many People Watch It , Both Are Different
